It’s Miller. He has the body type and playstyle required to eat minutes.

Miller-Fox
Jones-Trouba
Lindgren-Schneider

That’s a great top 6 and it’s easier to slot whoever into the third pair once Lindgren gets injured.

If you're penciling this in as a 2nd pairing on a team lots of people would expect to contend, I feel like you're gonna have a pretty bad time.

We do have good center depth.

Kreider is great and Panarin is...fine.

Lafreniere and Kakko are 40 point player in the highest scoring NHL in 30 years.

Our second-best RW (after Kakko and his 40 points) is the spirit of Rod Gilbert.

Those last two are the obvious areas for improvement.
Lets be clear, Kakko and Laf are putting up close to 40 points at even strength.
Kakko had as many even strength goals as Draisaitl.

I’ll agree that our rw depth is lacking but again, not a bottom 10 team roster.

What did Chytil do to deserve this?
Chytil and Zadina looked really good in the wjc. And maybe with a change of scenery and giving Zadina some actual talent to play with will help him progress, and he’s cheap af for the next 2 years.

I see Zadina as a nice add, who is cheap and ha some skill for sure. I also see him as a bit of a cap dump for Detroit should they want to add Goodrow. I do think he would do well with Chytil and Panarin

Flip Smith and Zadina and I f*** with this lineup.

I thought about that for sure. I could see Erne/Zadina/Smith in that same spot for various reasons. Erne for some energy and speed, Zadina for skill, Smith for his 2-way play.

I do also think Zadina could do well playing with Kreider-Trochek. That line could use a bit of skill and someone who wants to make a play.

Who cares till the TDL
Who cares till the TDL

We're done until the start of the season boys. Probably the only thing the rangers can afford is to make the third line more of a checking line till after the TDL. Sign some cheap vet 3c that can defend that you can later drop down to the 4th line. In reality, the rangers just need a third and fourth line that won't hurt them too much until some cap space opens up at the TDL.

Also, no reason to trade or sign for someone the rangers can't really afford to be Panarin's ideal RW. Most of the descriptions I see here for Panarin's ideal RW is pretty much Kappo Kakko. Maybe he's a little bit slower but he's still way more effective at the things people want Panarin's RW to do. He's also dirt cheap next season.

There's also a really good chance that Chytil at 2RW is better than anyone the rangers can realistically afford. The rangers don't need three scoring lines for the regular season because maybe only one or two teams can actually afford that at this point. I would actually like to see Kreider and a vet 3c mentor a rookie on that third line. Maybe pairing a young player with two veterans would be a good thing.

Definitely move or buy out Goodrow. I would be down to keep him around if he was better at center. When we first got Goodrow I was hoping he would be stapled to Chytil on the third line and he can mentor him into becoming a 2way player but that happened maybe for the first couple of games and then Goodrow immediately got moved into the top six.

Any kind of money the rangers can find should probably go more towards finding a dman. Lindgren will always be close to dead by the end of the regular season and they need a better 3LD that can slide up to 2LD. The rangers have a good enough top six if they move Chytil up to easily get through the regular season. If Chytil develops into a top six player that can play center or wing it's a huge win for the rangers. It's a much better alternative to plugging in a fourth line player into the top six for the 12314543 season in a row.

Zadina is absolutely horrible lmao

This is hyperbole...

21-22 @ 22 years old
+2.7 CF% rel @ 5v5 in 74 games
24 points in 74 games (16 at ES)
14:11 TOI

22-23 @ 23 years old (after coming back from injury)
+4.8 CF% rel
7 points in 30 games played (7 at ES)
13:06 TOI

I'm not sure he will ever be a ppg player but do the Rangers need that? WOuldn't it be nice to continue his development into a nice positive possession RWer who scores 40-50 points?

Canuck fans seem very interested in trading us the 11th overall for Schneider, am I crazy for thinking that would be a great deal for us? Lol

One of them even posted this proposal

Goodrow
Schneider
Adam Edstrom

for

11th overall
Beauvillier (25% retained)

We shed Goodrows contract for free and get a retained Beauvillier who is far better than Goodrow lol
I would do that easily, somehow I don’t think Vancouver would though

Rangers fans are arguing it massively favors Vancouver lmao I think it would be the only trade Drury has ever won. Absolute highway robbery.

Where are they proposing this

Think back to Max Pacioretty going to Carolina for free last summer in a trade, or more recently the Kings’ three-team trade to get Cal Petersen’s contract off the books. It’s been crazy hard to move money.

“There’s no money in the system, ” Predators general manager Barry Trotz told The Athletic over the phone Sunday afternoon. “So I wanted to make sure I got money in the system”

In other words, creating $4 million of cap room for the next two years was worth it for the Predators even though it meant $4 million in dead cap space by retaining half of Johansen’s $8 million cap hit. It’s not about spending that cap money now. It’s more of projecting out as the new GM continues to tweak this roster in his reset of the organization.

Will the Rangers find a taker for Goodrow's contract without attaching assets or taking back some toxic junk? Trade him for free or buy him out.

$200,000 cap credit next season. $100,000 cap credit in 24-25. $1.15M cap hit in 25-26 when the salary cap will be $92M. The Rangers have $610K bonus overage this summer so an extra $500K is not that much. The current CBA expires after the third season of the buyout. The big cap hit is in year 4 at $3.65M when the salary cap could be in the $95M-$100M range. That's a small sacrifice for cap flexibility in the first three seasons of the buyout.

The 5% increases are baked in.

Craig Smith had a really bad analytics year last year but was solid before that. He could be a value add.

You have to take some risks. That's how we ended up with Jimmy Vesey locked up on a deal like $1.5m below value.

I think the goal for Smith would be to come in, be a complimentary RW who can play a nice 2-way game.

Small reminder to all:

Laviolette coached Smith in Nashville for 6 years.
He then must have at least okay'd the acquisition of Smith in Washington last year and played him. Oh by the way, he played well in Washington.

Smith also played for Housley during his time in Nashville
