And how do we obtain depth?
Most quality we can afford.
And how do we afford?
'by going w/less expensive youth

The biggest thing is Panarin. Part of it is on Panarin to be consistent and maintain effort.

Part of it is on coaching to get that out of him and put him in places to succeed.

If Panarin is firing on all cylinders, it’s a massive headache for the opposing team to also have to deal with Kreider/Mika. But Panarin decides when he will play at that level.

It just seems difficult for guys to find that real chemistry with him. Strome was the closest we had. Panarin and Trocheck put up pretty good numbers , but they don’t click. There’s more to be had there.

That goal on the Trocheck faceoff straight back to Shesty is when I decided I can't continue this relationship with Tarasenko. I'm ending things.

I think It's better to move Goodrow next offseason in order to sign Kakko, Lindgren and Schneider (when the salary cap upper limit is about 87,7m).
The Rangers need the cap space for this season. If it's a buyout, the Rangers get a $200,000 credit for this season and $100,000 credit for next season. Put together a roster with Goodrow on it after paying Miller and Lafneriere. Bridge contracts. The Rangers aren’t winning with zero depth and a group of players signed to the NHL minimum.

Sure but it’s feasible to play Cuylee , Othmaan.
Dumpster dive free agents like Craig Smith
Trade for rentals when needed at the deadline

I’d rather deal Goodrow but not add a sweetener or retain

that’s only going to add Goodrow replace that and like 1 more guy at say 2 Million? Just try and wait out guys like Motte who ask for more than they are likely to get

Let all the trade deadline people go, we will be talking about buying out Tarasenko next summer if they give him a contract. Stop paying for a players downside of his career.
I don’t think anyone is advocating giving him a raise, but a 4 million dollar contract for a 50-60 pt player is a value contract.
And so far that’s his projection on the downswing.
Also no one is advocating giving him more than 4 years. (I don’t want to give him more than 2)

Tarasenko is horrid defensively and not nearly good enough offensively to make up for it. 3rd liner at best at this point.
Did we both watch the same player?
Even in the playoffs he’s a middle 6 guy, who can play top line if necessary.

The way for us to obtain depth is for our young players to actually be good.

If you look at the actual quality of our forward corps and not just how sexy the names are, it's one of the top 10 worst in the league.
Im gonna disagree with that.

We’re extremely deep at center, our left wings are both capable of producing,
Laf is a question but he seems capable of at least 50+ points with some solid pp time.

Kakko is a clear top line winger,

Our 4 line is a mess, no question. But that’s not uncommon for a team spending to the cap.
Implying our roster is as bad as teams like Chicago or philly is really disingenuous.

A team just won a cup with Brett Howden in their top6/9.

Styles and gameplan make a bigger difference. We had a bunch of individuals doing whatever they think is right at the time. There was no cohesiveness on this team. Hopefully that is very apparent from Game 1.

We do have good center depth.

Kreider is great and Panarin is...fine.

Lafreniere and Kakko are 40 point player in the highest scoring NHL in 30 years.

Our second-best RW (after Kakko and his 40 points) is the spirit of Rod Gilbert.

Those last two are the obvious areas for improvement.

Playing with the best 5v5 forward in the Western Conference.

Kreider arguably has that effect on everyone too but we always staple some 30% possession player to that line at RW instead of just going with options that we know work.

I thought Kreider-Zibanejad-Vatrano was the worst thing I ever saw until they gave us Kreider-Zibanejad-Tarasenko.

They keep acquiring a shooter to put on that line as if Kreider and Zibanejad aren't already volume-chuckers, and there's no chemistry.

Two years in a row, we took our only top-to-bottom effective line at 5v5 and actively shut it down ourselves.

Canuck fans seem very interested in trading us the 11th overall for Schneider, am I crazy for thinking that would be a great deal for us? Lol

One of them even posted this proposal

Goodrow
Schneider
Adam Edstrom

for

11th overall
Beauvillier (25% retained)

We shed Goodrows contract for free and get a retained Beauvillier who is far better than Goodrow lol
