We have a gap on the right side. We need goal scorer. We have cap issues. He’s signed cheap for 2 years, and looked good with Chytil previously.

It’s a high risk/reward thing, and we could probably get him cheap.
What’s cheap?

Othmann is that goal scorer. I’d rather give him a look and sign an Engvall

The Rangers should give Laf and Kakko ample opportunities in the top 6 for multiple reasons.

1. They will be good enough as a team to be in a playoff spot at the TDL anyway
2. If the kids emerge like we all hope, they won’t need to spend yet another 1st rd pick on a deadline rental
3. It’s the cheapest option for a cap strapped team.

Kreider or Laf move to the RW and get over it.

I don’t know. Depends on what happens around the league and how hot yzermans seat is.
If someone like lindholm goes for a first.
I think maybe a 3rd or 4th rd pick.

He’s a rw. He’s got a decent amount of speed, he’s not small, he needs to add some defense to his game, and needs a change of scenery.
He looked really good in the WJC with Chytil.
If he added some defense to his game, he’s a much better version of vatrano.
Whqt grit does Zadina play with? Vatrano plays with edge. I've never seen that from Zadina. Rather go after Rasmussen

there's no need for Yzerman to trade him at that cost.

Yzermans seat may be hot but it's because he farted. He has carte blanche with that org.

Kreider , Zib , Kakko
Panarin , Chytil , Laf
Goodrow , Trotchek , Brown
Motte , Nosek , Watson /Vesey
Call up Othmaan / Cuylee

Probably realistic ?

There was a NHL BOG meeting today in Manhattan.

Marty Walsh was on John Shannon’s podcast yesterday. He confirmed the cap will be $83.5M.

If they put Laf on the right maybe. Chytil is wasted with Goodrow and Brown tho.

Man something has to give

I like Wheeler as a player. Rumors of his leadership / room behavior aside, is he really what we need?

Zib, Panarin, Kreider, Chytil/Trocheck, Laf, Kakko. That's your top six. Why put Wheeler on the 3rd line? Assume one of Kreider, Bread, or Laf move to RW. That means your 3rd line is prime to be more of an energy/checking line. Not sure Wheeler fits in there.

Tyler Taffoli is available. Wouldn't mind him on our right side in a cap free world .

I doubt we add anything outside of maybe a LD for depth and possibly a depth forward and do a reload at the deadline. I think guys like Cullye, Berard etc will get a shot here. Also, not something I'm advocating for but I think the possiblity is there that Kane comes back after he's cleared. If thats the case, and rumors are that Toews is possibly going to edmonton on a cheap deal, would we be smart to grab him for the year as well?

Panarin Zibanejad Kakko
Lafreniere Trochek Chytil
Kreider Toews Kane
Vesey Goodrow Cullye

I know this isnt 2013 but that 3rd line still looks like something that could be productive and safe at the same time.

Just came here to post this. 4.25M but if they can get retention or trade Goodrow..

Well without Kreider/Laf moving to the right there’s a huge hole there. All depends if the Rangers plan to do that or not

With the current roster it has to be Kreider imo, it wont impact his 5 on 5 play imo

That's a fair point. If they are willing to move Kreider to the 3rd line then I can see a spot for someone like Wheeler. Idk if we can afford him though.
At the moment Vesey or Goodrow will be playing RW2 and Laf will be wasting on the 3rd line again (unless he moves wings or they move Kreider down). Until we know they plan on doing there a RW is kinda needed.

If Kreider moves to RW then there’s not really a need (kids get their shot) for a top 6 guy (yet at least)

Teams that want to win. And I dont think its necessarily that teams can't re-sign the players they trade for, but the picture will be much clearer as we start to know exactly how much the cap is going up next year. Draft picks and prospects are generally overrated around these parts. If you want to win you can't be afraid to trade picks
You also don't hand them out like candy for rentals and vets.
Foundation pieces you can build on, ok.
Otherwise no

Yeah I mean a lot of the guys out there are on the trade market worth high picks could be foundational pieces for us. Drury would just need to reshape the roster. I don’t think it’s necessary personally, but the Rangers are trying to win now and I feel like they would be open to a trade of some younger assets (Laf?, 1st rounder?, jones?) if it could fix their top 6RW hole. The cap is jumping up after this year allegedly and Trouba/Kreider will be tradeable, so they will have flexibility.
