Severson was set to be a UFA in july.
They arent anywhere near the same. Jackets just wanted his rights/the 8 year contract.

Trouba was still going to be an RFA when the Rangers traded for him, Severson was set to be a UFA so that probably accounts for the difference in trade value, plus Trouba was 25 and Severson will be 29 in August.
yea i've been convinced goodrow is the odd man out but sentiment seems to have shifted with laviolette being the hire - still think there's a good chance he's moved but far from certain. as far as tarasenko that deal may be right, def still comes down to how things look post laf/k'andre. sounds a lot more like kane is likely to be back on a 1 yr deal and at most it's only one of them back. if it's kane though a healthy version of him may ultimately be the much better signing. i loved a lot of what tarasenko brought and would be happy to see him back on the right deal, but i think there's a lot more potential upside to having kane fully healthy with time to find his spot in the lineup/pp ahead of the playoffs.

Vally on the Athletic podcast says the Rangers were 30th in forechecking scoring chances and 32nd in rebound chances last year. That describes their performance in the playoffs as well.

Lets say hypothetically Kakko breaks out this year and has a 30G/30A year. What does his contract look like after the season?
My guess is something like 8 years $50,000,000 for a $6.25AAV. However Kakko may like something shorter term at a lower AAV in order to hit UFA at 27/28 years old so maybe could also be 4 X $5AAV. Thoughts?
This implies we would have to trade at least one of trouba/kreider after the season. Trouba is probably easier to trade to a cap floor type of team being that he has only $6mm owed per year for those final 2 years but an $8mm AAV.

Valliquette continuing to harp on the young players getting in to top shape this summer. He's right. I defend Laf, Kakko & Chytil but this is coach #3 for them. Put up or ship out time for them.

Trouba’s hit on Crosby saved the series for us last year.
Yes trouba is overpaid, but he actualy brings alot to the team. Just not points. And thats fine.
The hate on him is ridiculous.
I’d rather do Goodrow for Rasmussen or something like that. Zadina does nothing for me. Valeno adds center depth but I am not familiar with him. Is he actually good on faceoffs and the 200 FT game?

Zadina needs to play in the top 6. The Rangers have enough top 6 forwards.
Zadina worked great with Chytil when they were in the wjc.
He’s a rw on a cheap deal.

Couldn't the Rangers use a top-6 RW though? Zadina isn't an awful idea if they like the player
Top 6 forwards are really top 9 forwards now.
Rasmussen is interesting if not different than what we already have here which isn't a bad thing.
You could theoretically have 2/3rds of a jumbo line with him and Cuylle on it.
