KAM should be that guy. Need to upgrade Lindgren long term. I like Lindgren. Do not know if I'd commit 5M to him.Hopefully Miller is that player. And perhaps a steadier Lindgren helps improve Trouba's game?
never gonna happen and I don't trust him. Lets forget the cost for now..... he will break down as soon as he gets here.Karlsson is getting moved

Agreed. People stake a lot on what Hank says. The team didn't adapt, it really wasn't Gallant. Not perfect, but unnecessary change. To me, this is a most unusual off season. In years past, I had a definitive checklist of things that I thought needed to be done. That included adds and subtractions. This year, it’s not so easy.
I’m ambivalent about the coaching change. I liked Gallant and his easy going style. I don’t buy the argument that we needed tougher practices. That’s not what the modern athlete typically says. As for tactics, I thought his system was fine and he made appropriate changes. Some of the amateur coaches here tend to overthink things. Gallant was reasonably responsive to what was happening on the ice. All of the strategic changes in the world don’t change how the players are performIng.
I thought Brooks put it well…Laviolette is a competent professional coach. As uninspiring as the choice seems, that is true.
So now what?
Well, given the constraints of the cap, any major changes depends on how they evaluate their own significant players. Are they OK with Lafreniere or is it possible he is moved? Would they trade Chytil? Can they make a fair deal with Miller? Do they see Schneider as a future building block or an overrated young player? Could they force an (expensive) move with a piece of the veteran core? And on and on.
I have my own evaluations but I’m not ready to go full Vegas and trade too many young players for veterans. The proven core is starting to age. Some young players have to step up and carry the flag. Sooner rather than later.
Drury is clearly on the hot seat this year and beyond. He has to make the decisions I outlined above. I’m sure he already knows where he wants to go.
He better be right.
Isn’t that the opposite? Cap hits are usually lower when the deal is longer. If Lindgren takes a shorter deal the cap number would be higher.
Often it does, but it really depends on the age of the player and how many UFA years are being bought. A player that is 4 years from UFA status who signs for 8 years will almost certainly have a higher AAV than if he signed for 5 years.I was under the impression that 8 years on a contract that goes to that age would bring the cap hit down, not up
Another guy who may be inexpensive but exactly what the team could use is Max Comtois. He's a 25 year old with a couple of down seasons but he plays a fiery style. 19 points in 64 games last year with 76 PIM's.
Lindgren + for Fowler @ 50%
Goodrow moved to highest bidder or bought out
Sign 1 or 2 of Motte, Engvall, Hathaway, Acciari or Blueger
Let Cuylle and Othmann get a shot

perfecto
Kreider - Tro - Engvall would technically be our 'checking/matchup' line
Does he play RW as well? I always liked him as a player. Another LW unless Vesey moves to RW?
Obsession with Motte needs to stop. He is not good.
Who plays on the PP?Karlsson is getting moved
Goodrow, Schneider++? for Karlsson with retention
Miller - Fox
Lindgren - Karlsson
Jones - Trouba
Karlsson is the better skater, and I don't think having one great offensive defenseman means we can run a bunch of cavemen to go with him because we already have the offensive defenseman. It's 2023. One of our biggest problems last season was the lack of mobility from the back end, their lack of puck moving ability & generating offense. So Karlsson wouldn't be a move for the PP, it would be to make our defense more mobile and talented at moving the puckWho plays on the PP?
This team doesn’t need Karlsson. We have Fox who is a younger, better player all around.
I don't know if Comtois plays RW, that's an open question I have as well
prob not doable but if it wereKarlsson is getting moved
Goodrow, Schneider++? for Karlsson with retention

Jones - Trouba
whether or not he is ready now, he and Robbie are close enuf to start, even w/growing painsI saw Zac Jone's AHL card earlier in this thread, can anyone pull Scanlin's? Based on reports he was the Pack's best overall d-man. I'm curious if we are all underselling his opportunity to snag a spot
Id rather Mottehow about Vinny Hinostrosza for some depth? He is only 29 and can skate. Better than Tyler Motte
Hinostroza isn't good defensively. He is a high energy player but he is small. I wouldn't hate taking a flyer on him but he and Motte are not similar.how about Vinny Hinostrosza for some depth? He is only 29 and can skate. Better than Tyler Motte
He absolutely doeshe definitely does not
What is this "we" and "our" talk? I'm sure Traktor has an interesting offseason ahead. Good luck.Karlsson is the better skater, and I don't think having one great offensive defenseman means we can run a bunch of cavemen to go with him because we already have the offensive defenseman. Why are we getting rid of Lindgren again?
I’d rather sell high on the spitter from Minnesota. Get rid of Miller
If someone offered top 5 pick for Miller, hard to not consider that.
