Over at one of my local caffe’s this morning, and a little kid is wearing a Kakko T-shirt. It’s a sign, breakout year next season, or I delete @EdJovanovski account lol :sarcasm:
Let’s use 50 points as a benchmark. If he gets less than 50 points, then Jovo’s account gets deleted…..but….if he gets more than 50 points, then Tob gets to delete Jovo’s account. Seems like a win-win situation

The vitriol for Laviolette is borderline comical. He is the most winning American coach if all time. So many of us wanted a new face with fresh ideas. I’m one of them. But people are acting like Laviolette is some random high school football coach who has never seen a hockey game.
Speaking for my self the hesitation for being excited about the hire is kind of because of what you mentioned. He's got his ways, not many of these guys are willing to grow and adapt. With a fresh coach they are more likely to use modern methods. The game has changed, has Laviolette changed with it?

The royal road revolution doesn't discriminate.

He went to the finals in 16-17 not 96-97

And Nashville was a flawed team to boot.

I mean, Washington was the covid year, a 100 point season, and a season where the Capitals never, not once, had all of their starters healthy in a game all year and were seemingly more about pandering to 8's goal record chase than they were about actually competing for a Cup.

He's not a bad coach.

I asked my buddy Sheehan who is the pope of DC sports.

"He's a good coach, and he's improving as a coach."

The capitals are also poorly constructed for a guy who likes to engage his defenseman, and use that to spring forwards.
They were an old team in the middle of deciding to rebuild, and no one could stay healthy, and he still kept them in contention for 2 years.

You're missing the point, my guy. How is Laviolette an "improving coach" when his best years are wayyyyyy behind him?
I never said he was. Just that he’s not an out of date coach. I think Washington was foolish to hire him and should’ve been rebuilding, but chose to placate ovi, similar to Pittsburg.

Kane is hypothetically possible if he's on LTIR and takes a cheap deal; the missing part of the season helps us bank space, and then he's like our deadline addition. But that depends if he wants to take a one year minimal deal to try to win a Cup here rather than going back to lose in Chicago.

You don't clear cap space by using LTIR. You are allowed to spend over the cap for the amount that's on LTIR.

As a result, you cannot bank cap space if you are over the cap. If Kane is on LTIR, the Rangers would be over the cap of $83,500,000 (projected), with the LTIR ceiling being $83,500,000 + whatever Kane's cap hit is.

I'm not really understanding the idea that Laviolette is a bad coach. Like maybe he's ultimately not the right coach for this group? That's totally possible. But the guy is a good coach, no doubt. I think you can reject the idea of him being right for us without disparaging his ability to do his job.

This is it for me. He’s a good coach. I understand him not being, maybe, someone’s first or ideal choice but the hatred? It seems like people are just yelling at clouds at this point
