If he's willing to play in Hartford I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to retain him. Hartford is finally trending in a positive direction and it would be good to keep some of that veteran core together.

I’d give him a couple of years and tell him he is going to be a leader in Hartford and probably a callup in the case of an injury along with a couple of other people. Pay him $750k per season and let him help lead that team

Yeah if he's good with that I think it's an absolute no-brainer. And while I'm not exactly excited about the prospect of seeing him the lineup again you absolutely can do worse as a depth option and we have many times in recent years.

People get too worked up about wanting Hartford to just be prospects. Every AHL team has AAAA vets, you need them to help with making sure the kids you have in the lineup have a chance to get better playing with these really good minor league players.

If you had just young prospects in the lineup, you would get destroyed every night. Blidh, Carpenter, Brod, Lockwood all good to have around.

Hope Lockwood gets resigned. I wouldn’t mind him as a depth forward. I liked what I seen when he played games for the Canucks. I prefer him over Brodzinski files a need at RW depth.

This is exactly right. Hartford was going to miss the playoffs again until the reinforcements came--Blidh, Leshitshow, Lockwood, Brodzinski back down, Kalynuk, Clendening...

Get me Gavin Brindley RW/C with the 23rd pick 1st round.

Brindley is a high-motor player who excels on the defensive side of the puck. He’s a tenacious forechecker and reliable in defensive zone coverage. He’s always in motion, always attacking lanes, bouncing around defenders to find them, especially on the power play. He anticipates plays ahead of time and moves to support them

he sounds like Ryan Callahan type of player. Teams need those role players. Go safe this time. Add more depth.

What exactly do you think Lindgren will be asking for? His contract won’t be outrageous at all.

And you fooling yourself if you dont think Kane won’t be looking for a respectable number on a contract that could very well be his last. 7M-8M? No, but assuming the surgery goes well, he will still get 4-5M. He’s not signing with the Rangers for 1M.
I'm not fooling anything, it's just wishful thinking.

I also think Lindgren would get 5.5-6 per year on the open market

Got to flex that wallet a bit. Give Emberson, Carpenter, and Scanlin the same contract Blidh just got. Makes them well paid in the AHL, cheap callups in case of injury, and most importantly, makes Hartford a good team. We have the ability to do this. It makes much better depth and making you AHL team good has a better chance of producing good players. Been beating this drum for ages along with others. It's time to flex our financial muscle, especially when the league is cap strapped.

IDK what people have against Carpenter. He was great in Hartford and if he's your 6th center/14th or 15th forward making $700K-$800K, I think you're in good shape.

Also for the positive contributions that the kids made in Hartford last season, it was really the play of the veteran players (particularly at forward) that got them into the playoffs and through a couple of rounds. Fritz is probably gone, Gettinger is probably gone, Pajuniemi is already gone. If you let Carpenter walk you've let go of 4 of your 7 top scoring forwards, with Cuylle potentially slated for a role in NY and Brodzinski always an option as a 13th forward. So in that instance, be prepared to throw Sykora and Othmann and Berard into the mix and be a fringe playoff team again. Hartford could use some continuity with the veterans.
Gets a like from me along with a thank you for yr pt in bold.

Vets in the A dif than vets in the N.

Howev, I am not sold that Carp is the vet worth putting $$$ on, though I concede I am too time pressed to immediately think of who would go in his place instead.

I think people are underestimating the step from AHL to NHL. The idea that guys like Trivigno or Edstrom are NHL ready is a pretty big leap. There’s a reason good teams have a few tweeter types who can fill in and take a regular shift on a 3rd or 4th line.

That’s also why I would also sign Lockwood and like the signing of Blidh

He has 1 year left of RFA. He's gonna be asking for a contract that eats quite a few of those UFA years.
Siegenthaler just signed a 5 year contract at a 3.4 mil AAV. He's 26 years old and has been in the league for 5 years. He had 1 RFA year remaining. Left-handed like Lindgren, but bigger. 48 points in 255 career games.

Lindgren has 63 points in 257 career games, so he scores a bit more, but not by a significant amount.

Both players have 7 career goals. Siegenthaler averaged 20:09 per game last year and Lindgren averaged 18:50 per game, but he was at 20:06 the year before and 20:00 the year before that.

Lindgren is on the final year of his contract. Come July 1st, the Rangers should offer him 4 mil x 5 years. He gets a bit more because the cap is going up and Lindgren will have played considerably more games. Takes him to age 31. Limited NTC in his UFA years (Siegenthaler has 10 team NTC).

That's a 1 mil raise on what he's getting right now, and a guaranteed 20 mil. If and when we have a replacement for him, we can think about trading him.

Agree w/this generally and it is in line with my estimate his high offer is 4.25-.75 per.

That said, no to if and when
replace now to get benefits of selling high.
If as is unlikely both Rob + Scanlin + the showcased Jones all crap the bed, at at once, we can rely on stopgaps Mikkola + Harpur, who is fine w/sufficient RD partner -- should pair w/Fox

I wonder if Drury is going to proactively move Goodrow before the draft or if he is going to try to squeeze everything in without moving him first

Adam Fantilli loves Brindley. Great teammate. The lack of size is an issue. I remember Pronman was raving about Brindley a few months ago.

Would Anaheim give up 33, 59, and 60 to move up to 23 to take Brindley? The price to move up 4 spots 5 years ago was a pick in the late 40's. Make it a bigger deal. Anaheim takes Goodrow's salary back and they send Max Comtois back the Rangers' way. PITA player that is two years removed from a 16 goal year in 55 games.
