I think you'll still see a fear about that damn dreaded middle.

That zone where you're not good enough to do much damage, but not bad enough to reap the best rewards for a miserable season.

Unless you have the Chicago outcome. In which case, BRING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We need a Carolina type finish. 11th or 12th worst, win the lottery and snag that top 3 pick.

We deserve it, after the NHL keeps gifting our rivals. One Kakko isn't enough compensation.

If I were to outline a dream scenario, it would be that we see steady progress by our young talents, enabling us to move to expiring contracts for assets (picks, prospects, etc.), followed by a late-season, post-TDL surge that comes up just short of the playoffs.

We then win the lottery and nab a kid like Byfield.

Progress and more high-end fire power for the future.

Obviously real life is rarely that clean cut, but that would be the script I would want to write.

I am just hopeful/worried that Gorton and his team won't make the necessary hard decisions at or before the TDL if the team is in or near a playoff spot on guys like Namestnikov, Fast and Kreider. Hopefully, young guys like Chytil, Kravtsov and others are showing they can fill those holes to ease that decision.

The worst scenario I would envision is the team being in a playoff position around the deadline and then not selling on those guys only to just miss the playoffs.

There's always the possibility of a "hockey" deal, where we trade a player for a player.

I’m expecting losses, but I’m just hoping for fun. I’ll worry about draft position after the trade deadline
And even then, so long as they keep their focus on the future with any roster moves they make, let the chips fall where they may regarding draft position. Play the right way, and if you miss the POs, hope for the right pingpong balls in the lottery.

Admittedly, that's floating around in the back of my mind as well.

I still think this team needs more ammo for the future and could really benefit from a similar scenario in 2020 as it did in 2019. Whether it's using an additional first as fodder to acquire a talent that is established, or using two firsts to come away with a center and another defenseman, I just think we need a little more than what we currently have in the system.

But that's far enough down the road that I'm going to keep filing it away for now.

I was watching pump-up videos to get me...well, pumped up and IDK, I never really noticed it until now. He looks like he's in pain or something.
I dunno. To me it looks like a kid that was just drafted 2nd overall by an original 6 team and is overcome with emotion. :dunno:

Or he is nursing a hangover and just trying to make it to the podium and off the stage with out barfing all over our GM and President. Again... :dunno:

Trading three, four guys at the deadline if the team is in or near the playoffs seems unrealistic to me. If they're out of it by then, sure.

will be interesting to see what kind of season Stepan can have with a wing like Kessel. I’m guessing still something of a 1B year, if not 2C outright.
