I think we need to accept the hand we were dealt in which nearly all our young roster players (ex-Chytil) aren't fast skaters. Fox, a 1OA and 2OA is not a bad hand to be dealt, but we need to start supplementing them w/ players that can provide what they don't possess. I know Laf and Kakko haven't given us a lot of confidence, but the rebuild is a complete bust if they cant become high quality players, so we're better off finding out what we have in them sooner rather than later.

One reassuring thing is we just had two expansion teams build PO rosters full of the types of players we need. These guys aren't that difficult to find around the league. 3-4 targeted additions of a very specific skillset can shift the style and culture of this team dramatically over the next few years. If Drury can just work a little bit of magic to create cap by (hopefully) getting Panarin on board to look elsewhere, along w/ finding a modern coach that can instill a modern system, then we've got a shot at creating a second window.

I think we are at like 85% consensus on here (Which is a rare high number) that this roster's main weakness is puck moving from the blue line out- it just ruins the entire transition game. Even Miller struggled big time last night with that.

That said, I'm extremely concerned that we are just going to rearrange forwards like Panarin, Goodrow, Lafreniere, and leave the blue line relatively unchanged.

I'd do whatever it takes to get Trouba out of here. Give Jones a real shot next year. Miller, Fox and Lindgren are a solid start but we need puck movers to complement. One per pairing minimum.
There has to be a system/X's and O's in place to help alleviate the pressure.

Watch our forwards stare at defenseman when they gain possession... They are technically still defend mode instead of getting in position to support the puck for transition.

Adam Fox is our best puck mover. Yes? He looked like shit from Game 3 on. HE Couldn't even overcome the shit puck support/lack of system.

It doesn't matter how many puck movers we add if there is no protocols in place for puck movement imo. Centers need to be better too. Need to skate with or without the puck to make room. We dont. Everyone stand stills and puck watches.... or we fly the zone and have our backs turned to the puck. It's Neanderthal brain dead hockey. We're easy to defend and play against. Extremely predictable and easy to counter.

It really is refreshing to watch other teams this Playoffs.

tl;dr - we need more mobility/PMD BUT we also need a system for hockey in 2023.

Firing the coach is a bandaid.

Frank mentioned on his podcast today that the Rangers don't have a shutdown line. Larry mentions the same thing every time.

The roster construction is not good.

The Rangers brought in Tarasenko and Kane to make it work with Panarin. The Rangers have a ton invested in Panarin. They can't trade him because nobody wants him. They can hire another coach to make it work with him. It won't work.

You're barking up the wrong tree if you think Panarin is going to Vancouver or Ottawa lol. The only hope here is if the divorce is mutual. If 10 likes NY he's not going anywhere. It doesnt help that he just had a kid and my not want to uproot his family.
Isnt that Panarin's job?
I don't think anything is the wrong tree as far as getting rid of Panarin is concerned. And honestly, that goes for any trade. Talk to everyone and see what will work. The bold is exactly why you investigate everything. Take pennies on the dollar if need be. The benefit is the cap space, the change in style and the opportunity for younger players. (Laf and Othmann) Return is secondary.

lost in all of this is pathetic tweets like this

i think going forward we just say no hits allowed, definitely trouba should have bear hugged meier or just let him walk around him

The only issue with this hit is it was 4 games too late.

we coulda used a guy driving puck possession at 64% in this series dont you think?
I'm 99.999999% certain, Meier would not have those numbers here. He would be sub 50.

The problem is they rely on Zibs to do it... I know everyone talks about how he should be a Selke candidate.... I just do not see it.

This team needs roles defined and have players play to their roles.

Even Goodrow is not that good of a defender IMO. on a side not, go get Teddy Blueger

i doubt it. he's an outlier even on the Devils. he was exactly the guy we needed to wake Panarin the f*** up. maybe it is good we didn't get him though because this team was clearly not ready to win a cup with or without him.

After catching the SEA vs COL game7.... we look a PeeWee team compared to Seattle.

They are well coached and players have bought in.

We are not well coached and players have nothing to buy into. This is why we occasionally look confused, flat and disengaged.

I have never witnessed a team be so shit at getting the puck out of the zone... to the point that it almost looks like they're doing it on purpose as if it's a 'practice' drill.
The large issue was, there is no system. Meaning, no one on the ice knew where the other person was. There was no communication. Passes to nobody all series. No support. Someone gets the puck on a forecheck, there was no one to cycle to and instant turnover. No support on the defensive side. So any spark instantly failed because we couldn't sustain any pressure.

Overall completely sloppy play. Reminded me of a pickup game where everyone is just winging it. Against a team that functioned as a cohesive unit with tons of speed and chances.

So no, the road to the ECF or SC was not paved for the Rangers. I couldn't imagine an offense like Florida's and how relentless they are against this Defense. Igor would have had to be even more clutch.

Next season Kakko sticks on the top line no matter what happens. Sink or swim. Chytil up to 2c or 2rw. Laf up to 2lw and Panarin to 3lw if they can't move him. Maybe we'll suck enough for Panarin to leave or the kids start putting it together or we get one more shot at a good draft pick.

Drury rolled out the red carpet for Panarin in a last ditch effort to get him going and he responded with a worse playoff than last year. Promote the kids and stop letting Panarin dictate ice time if hes still around next year. They need a coach who wont take his shit.

Can't stop thinking about how pathetic this team played. Less than 12 months ago this teams identity was supposed to be hard to play against. We just saw a 7 game series where nobody (except Kakko a few times) got into the goaltenders kitchen. Nobody drove to the net. Nobody Forechecked. I just don't understand how this team got so weak and pathetic. Even guys like Trocheck, Goodrow, Motte, Vesey, Laffy, Kreider, Lindgren... Just nothing.

Fire the coach, that's all good and well but these players play however they want. They dgaf. Need to start locking the clubhouse and taking away their toys if this is how they plan to compete. I have ZERO faith in this club winning a cup anytime soon after this season.

Get Ciaccio and anyone in player development out of here before they ruin Othmann or anymore of our future prospects. Keeping that guy around is like keeping a rollercoaster inspector around for a theme park that constantly has rollercoaster accidents.

The kids suck too. They can't even do well against third line matchups. I'm all for demoting Panarin because he is a gutless loser but don't buy for a second the kids deserve a promotion.

Please be true

holy shit if this organization hires Joel Quenneville I'm burning every jersey I own. absolutely not a f***ing option.

Torts. Messier. Q. Sutter.

It would be funny if these conversations weren’t most likely mirroring the ones the front office is having.

It's not about what the deserve, it's about what is best for the organization. The priority should be about doing what they can to rehabilitate their games in top 6/PP roles. If we take a step back next year for future gains, I'm all for it. Giving up on 21-22 year old's for anything less than a massive overpayment would be a panic move.

Lol every Ranger fan on twitter will say this and still be bitching about the line combos after the first period of Game 1. He's a bad guy but someone is going to give him another chance. May as well be us.

Not that I don't like Ryan Lindgren, but if Trouba being moved isn't in the cards, I'm starting to believe that they may need to move Lindgren in order to add a more skilled defenseman into the mix. Just adding Jones on the bottom pair isn't going to be enough.

Vince was on Sportsnet and said they could possibly tell Panarin the direction they're heading and see if he's willing to waive but he doesn't predict they'll trade Panarin, and still called him one of the greatest free agent signings in franchise history. Said to keep an eye on Goodrow. Said he thinks there's going to be conversations to be had about trading one of Lafreniere or Kakko to shake things up.

That would so Rongos. Kakko is pretty good for the value even right now, and I don't think selling Laf this low would be smart either.

Quenneville does nothing for this team, he's just another Gallant but also a scumbag.
