The only way to go forward is with the young guys they got. Lafreniere and Kakko need to be given PP1 and top line minutes + end of games. Try something different, what is the worst that can happen? Cannot be worst than the 3rd period.
Two guys, Chris Kreider and Panarin have shown me nothing that they should be given those responsibilities with their 5v5 play. They should be on PP2.
Somehow this organization needs to get another PIA winger. I've seen flashes of it with Kakko, but I'd love to find a physical and up tempo RW. Has Othmann developed enough to be that? He packs a punch this group lacks.
I do not want to give Mika a pass, but he has the most likely excuses out of the bunch. He's carrying around Kane and isn't in his PP spot which resulted in 20 goals this year.
Also, not one soul should question just how good and lucky we are to have Shesterkin. Tonight would have ended 8-0 with an average goalie.
The end result is make the changes internally or there will be external changes coming upstairs. Drury is also culpable here. He went with the Panarin plan and his guys are not doing it. A lot was done and it's not being paid off.

Just because this org can't pro scout worth a shit doesn't mean that there aren't better players than Blais out there.
3 more years of Trouba, Panarin, 4 of Goodrow , we can reset once those 3 are gone , in the meantime accumulate talent and figure out how to develop it
Still gave up three draft picks, and allocated $2.65M in cap space for Kane which will result in the Rangers taking a $610,891 cap penalty for next season. All of those cap shenanigans to accrue enough cap space.

What we need is to look at players on rebuilding teams who are in their mid 20s, don't exactly fit the rebuild timeline, and play with some fire. That's the story with Hagel, Nick Paul (who???), etc. Look to the rebuilding teams who have capspace and players in their prime who don't work with their rebuild timeline. So sick of this team's scouting - both amateur and pro.

The amateurs are by no means barn burners but wtf is with the pro scouting? It’s almost always horrendous like they are oblivious to things the rest of the league knows/sees or they just turn blind eyes to it because big names sell tickets and jerseys plus the organization has an arrogance about it that they have no business having with their track record

The fans of this team are no different. Look at this board a few days ago with Matthews. He is the new guy. All of these guys wanted Panarin. Four years later. What have the Rangers done in those four years? The Rangers are on the verge of being knocked out of the first round. Two playoff round wins. Panarin is not getting better in the next three years. The majority of these dickheads wanted Kane. The people who spent $300 on Kane sweater needs to reevaluate their priorities. Give the $300 to a charity funding hungry children in this country than to the Rangers/NHL for a Kane sweater.

My friend, who does get some information from time to time, told me Rangers were going to trade Panarin to the Flames for Tkachuk last offseason but Panarin nixed it. Flames condition was they wanted a player just as productive as Tkachuk so there wasn't a ton of teams lined up. Not sure if that is true but that would have been absolutely amazing and game changing for this team.

Standing there is all well and good especially on a team that fails to get there consistently on the level they do but I wanna see guys who drive the net with the puck and attack the middle of the ice
If you don’t score maybe you draw one, maybe you “accidentally” bump the goalie and get him rattled a bit, create some chaos, at the very least it makes the team respect that you may take it there at any given moment

Realistically, if Drury fires GG who is out there that could replace him? I'd take a look at Brunette but would the Devils let him interview with NYR? He might even take over for NJD since Ruff has not re-signed with them.

Zibanejad, is a good but streaky first line center. Contributes on both ends of the ice but goes hot and cold and lacks the killer instinct you’d ideally find in your TOP center. Still can probably be counted among the least of our problems.
Fox is an elite 1D. He may not always be AS good as he is when he’s “on” and, like any player, he makes his mistakes, gets overworked, etc. but also among the least of our problems. The fact that our #1 D and really only truly top pair quality D is a Smurf who lacks speed could be a bit of a problem though.
Igor - you can basically say the same thing as Fox - he may not be the historically good goalie he was during his Vezina campaign but he’s undoubtedly elite and least of our problems.
Vesey - for what he extended with us at and the versatility he has, he is the only “great contract” we have. Least of our problems.
Lindgren - all heart and rarely hurts us, not overpaid, and the type of player we could use some more of. Not counted among problems.
Miller - young enough that his warts have reasonable hopes of being ironed out over time. Coming off of his ELC and put up 43(?) points without PP time (good for 12th at 5v5 for any defender in the league). We want him to improve defensively, but really the only ‘problem’ is what this second contract is going to look like.

Laf, Kakko and Chytil - all three suck. They are going into years 4, 5 and 6 respectively. I don’t think there will be a single point per game season in any of their careers. I’m tempted to say none of them ever even hit 65 points. Ever. Even when they look like they have jump they also look totally disjointed and like they’re waiting for a veteran to hop over the boards so they can defer to them. I’m pretty much done with the kids. Each one of them is so flawed in some way, whether it’s skating, vision, hands… it doesn’t matter. If they could be merged into one player that player MIGHT be a 75+ point winger worth 6-7M.
Schneider - young and raw so not entirely giving up but didn’t take a step forward. Could eventually improve to a middle pairing guy, could simply even out his game and be a reliable #5. Neutral on him.
Mikkola - fine, not great, sometimes bad, sometimes pretty good, not of significant consequence either way and brings nastiness we lack, so neutral on him.
Trouba - love the big hits and occasionally he makes a good defensive play. Otherwise it’s poor positioning, turnovers, bad pinches, getting caught and being a black hole on the PP. Nothing against him personally, but as an 8M defenseman, net negative.
Kreider - tough to judge. Overall was hot down the stretch and started the series scorching but then immediately becomes invisible. All that fire he shows when he scores disappears and if he isn’t on the sheet with a goal you literally can’t tell if he’s playing. DESPITE his statistics, I’m going to see that his age + cap hit + disappearing act and inability to consistently bring the type of intensity that we would benefit from makes him a borderline negative.
Panarin - I literally will take future considerations in exchange for Panarin at full cost. Bye, Felicia. He wants to play beautiful, fun hockey - go make TikTok’s of your dangling against traffic cones and shooting targets and be a little internet celebrity. Even with 90+ points per season, he’s not the type of player you find making 8.5M on a winning roster. He’s making 11.6M on ours.
Trochek - meh. He works hard. His cap hit is about right for his production, the term is too long. He’s not great, but he puts in the effort for the most part on both ends of the ice. With the other warts and issues we have, I’m not sure signing him matters or not, because he’s a supporting cast type of guy and it’s hard to judge a support guy when the main characters don’t show up.
Motte - not as glamorous this time around but he plays hard and does what’s expected. So whatever.
Goodrow - cares, willing to do whatever he’s asked, just isn’t actually capable of living up to his contract which he shouldn’t have received.
Kane & Tarasenko - more Tarasenko from a game to game basis, but both have shown flashes while neither has shown anything close to being a play driving star player. Both are essentially failures as TDL pickups and neither should be brought back.
So we have 5ish players worth a damn.

We need competitive pricks. In our system we luckily have a few in cuylle, sykora and othmann.
But we really need to blow things up if we lose 4 straight to a group of small teenagers. No one on this team competes outside of trocheck and goodrow. No one cares. Igor does but im talking about skaters

Can't wait for these kids to make the team, hopefully Cuylle does next season to replace Motte on the 4th line. I think Othmann may take a year or part of next year in the A. I think what this series has shown is NYR cannot play against speed. NYR need to slow the game down to play to their strengths but NJD play the game fast, think the game fast and NYR just cannot do anything to slow it down. Besides Kreider (who is starting to slow down) and Motte they just can't dump the puck in and chase it. On top of that whenever Panarin or whatever forward has the puck they try to make quick passes/play and then the puck just bumbles around and the player receiving the pass can't handle it and it goes the other way. That or he tries to slow the play down and because of NJD speed they always have a player closing in on which then forces the player with the puck try and NYR players just can't seem to handle the puck pressure by NJD.
