Besides the Kings 'untouchables' there is literally no one on that team I trade for.

The only way I see them trading for any top 6 players around the league is giving up guys they don't want to, with picks they shouldn't give up. They are in a tough spot.

I could see them throwing money at Hall, Nuge and maybe Saad this offseason and that's about it.

If you are going to make such a bold and frankly ridiculous statement that the vast majority of the hockey world would disagree with, the onus is on you to explain why your conclusion is correct.
1. 20 Seasons 741 Goals with a season lost to a lockout and mostly in the dead puck era.
2.Era Adjusted: Greatest NHL goal-scoring seasons of all-time - Sportsnet.ca
3. 3 of the top goal scoring seasons unadjusted vs. 1.
4. You could argue tighter checking/waterskiing and no powerplays vs. Ovie playing in a Powerplay heavy league that caters to his skillset, but that is purely subjective.

I am not arguing that Ovie is a great goal scorer, I am just arguing that maybe the air for those top two or three guys is little more rarefied. I will sign up for getting a player who is the equivalent of Brett Hull right now. there is no shame in it for Ovechkin.

It's been reported Byfield is their only untouchable.

This is Eichel's destination, though not sure they'd be adding 2 top six guys while taking on 10 mill with most likely a prospect heavy offer on the way.

Also, for a team that has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to forward prospects, I'm having a tough time understanding their need to do this when Byfield will absolutely be a top 6 guy next year and so could others in their farm. But I guess that's what happens when you're players are publicly clamoring to compete ASAP.

Edit: just looked and they actually have a shit ton of space, but still they got a shit ton of impressive forward prospects as well.

I was told a while ago that the Kings had very few “off limit” players in trade negotiations. They are open for business.

That's fine, I haven't read that....however I'm sure you're right...I just don't think they should be moving Turcotte, Fagemo, Kaliyev, Villardi, Bjornfoot or even Kempe for that matter, on top of Byfield.

The old guard is on their way out and they need these pieces. They are in a bind in a half as they don't really have any legit guys in their prime (besides maybe Doughty), just youth and guys on their last legs.

I think any piece that they would need to fill that gap would have to come through FA or the above cycle continues.

They probably will be willing to move these guys, it's just dumb IMO.

LA isn’t a good trade partner unless you’re looking to swap prospects. This team could use one of their center prospects

Lets just prey that management's gross negligence with the development of Kakko and Laf haven't hurt their development long-term (much).

Gross negligence? That's a bit strong, no? It's not like they were scratched 90% of the time or played the entire season with Howden getting 6 min a game. They both progressed this year, even if we were hoping for more. Some things could've been done differently but I didn't see incredible glaring issues with the way they were used.

I don't see the high end prospect swap. It makes sense in theory, but almost never happens. It's a ton of risk for both GM's to get egg on their face. Give each guy a year or two in the NHL to be evaluated and it becomes realistic.

So all you did was tweak the 4th line a bit to a team that got totally outplayed down the stretch by the top teams in the conference. You leave the top 3 centers as is and bring back AHL players like Howden. Seriously this lineup you have would not only miss the playoffs this year but do nothing towards taking the next needed step in a progression. Your wasting the year and money with this lineup. Do you really think that the Dolan fired his top guys with the intent of sticking with the same group that showed they can't compete with the top teams? Lets be realistic here.

You’re banking on the progression of a ton of young talent. Laf Kakko Chytil should all take a big step this year, maybe even Kravstov. That’s literally a third of your forward group right there. And we were definitely the best team to not make the playoffs in the NHL. Put us in any other division and I bet we would’ve gotten in.

Great post. Remember the year 14 guys scored 50 goals? Think it was 92. Its amazing how back in 80s and early 90s eight guys would score 50 on a regular and now we are lucky if we get 1 or 2. Puts things into perspective.

Goalies are simply so much better today and the size of the gear they wear .

To expand on this, I think you HAVE to rely on the idea that Kakko and Laf at least will take significant strides forward next year and beyond when it comes to building this team for the future and you're tweaking things around the edges after that...if you're not, then the rebuild has failed. Those guys HAVE to be the players we hope they were drafted to be.

I think Chytil and Kravtsov are more in the "maybe" range of things and could be pieces moved for players(s) who bring a more physical game but I don't think the Rangers would give them away for free or anything.
I think Buch is a real good player and has more grit in his game than people give him credit for but he along with Strome could be guys the Rangers are looking to move or in the case of Strome upgrade.

So, while there are core pieces in that top six that aren't going anywhere and we're relying on top picks to get better, I think there's still some wiggle room for the Rangers to tinker with

Joking aside, this is probably the correct time to try to pry one of Cody Glass or Peyton Krebs out.

Vegas will be trying to win for the next 2-3 years (during their ELCs) so that makes sense.. How do you go about doing it however?

Florida, Tampa Bay and Carolina all better than us. Add Nashville and Stars that was part of that group. Also Avalanche, Vegas, Wild and Blues division. Thats 3 out of 4 including ours we don't make it.

Also you can bank on progression of younger players to a certain extent but if we are weak down the middle in a lot of aspects it aint happening. Geez we can't even win face offs and if you think that does not matter how many OT games were we behind the eight ball losing the opening draw. Our centers just don't have enough physical presence.

Retaining salary on a Buchnevich extension and trade. Ideally we can retain only for the first season if that’s allowed.

That said Vegas doesn’t really need more forwards so I think they’d be more interested in Kandre Miller.

Vegas needs a true 1C. We all know how aggressive their owner is. If they lose to Colorado, they'll be active again.

Shhhh your making too much sense. I would go farther and say if Panarin and Trouba didnt get hurt and Zibby showed up earlier we would have maybe even won a round.
