Watch Drury go full NHL21 or (Bern) and through several deals add Eichel and Schiefle and subtract Zib and Strome.
Jets. Buch Barron NYR 2nd ‘22
Rangers Dubois

Would like to see what combination of Bread, Gallant and a major market could do for PLD

Bruins Strome Jones
NYR Debrusk Frederic

I dunno, the only buyout that didn't make sense i guess was Hank, only had one year left, georgiev could have been delt instead. In hindsight that wouldn't have been necessary with Hanks heart, but i think the buyouts got us to today with our kids having more experience and the cap space we used was in a year that really wasn't meant to be a cup run year. If i were to critique Gorton for something it would be the Andersson pick because he was picked at 7 for his leadership and character of which he showed he had none, and while the pick to an outsider looking in looked odd, you would assume the two qualities that they said they picked him for would have been scouted heavily enough for them to use that pick on him. There is enough to like about the player but they really should have had the character thing nailed when thats what they were pushing to us.
None made sense to me, but at the same time I'm not implying they were huge missteps. Girardi was totally fine as a 3rd pairing. The problem was AV insisted on playing him 1st pair minutes. That buyout was about managing AV, not the team. Should have fired the coach and road out the contract. Shattenkirk I get, too many RD. Lundqvist was unnecessary. Sorry, 100% necessary because the mountain of dead cap forced that move too.

I'm not willing to look at each move in a vacuum. Kicking the can to field piss poor teams is stupid. Take your medicine and set the table. Gorton blew way over $20m in cap in one summer for Panarin, Trouba and the shattenkirk buyout. I called it out right then. Fine, I'm a corny fan that worries about the cap way more than owners and CEOs. But this team is nickle and diming rookies to manage the bonus overage when they have qualified for a proper post season in 4 years.

This is a rabbit hole... it's done. It lingers for me because it is symbolic of the franchise philosophy. Or lack thereof. Dump Stepan to rebuild then get Shattenkirk and buyout a RD. Sell off and immediately plunge into free agency, buyout a RD after acquiring 2 more RD. Patience, speed up, baby steps, learn on the fly, go young, lean on vets. The lack of a plan is a huge red flag.

I'm not breaking new ground here, but I think you try to be the team that Tampa unloads Cirelli to. Check off the defensive center and leadership boxes. Cap neutral move if you trade Buchnevich for futures or a Smtih/LD replacement. Strome is traded, which helps too. Blackwell, Barron, Rooney, Gauthier and whichever darkhorse battle it out for the 4th line and Cirelli's RW.

That's it. That's a ton of change. See how the new recipe cooks with a new coach. Let the kids fill the empty shoes. If the new LD is a culture changer, Trouba and Cirelli will have enough to get momentum.

They would probably have to move Chytil in a Cirelli trade

Chayka was pushed hard by his owner to win now. Barroway wanted (needed) to flip the team. A winning team is more attractive to buyers.

See, this is where owners come in.

I don't doubt he was pushed. The Yotes have always been too mediocre to make the playoffs properly and too mediocre to suck properly for top picks to help turn things around. The worst of both worlds.

The only way out is a successful rebuild that previous owners never have had the stomach to face. Maybe Meruelo will prove to be a better owner.

Chayka and Barroway thought they had put together a successful rebuild and Hall was brought in to put them over the top. Miscalculation.

And If you’ve been following the soap opera out here, you know there is no chance of Meruelo being a “better” owner. He’s got a heck of a chance to be the next Bruce McNall or John Spano.

If Chytil vastly outperforms a frontloaded 8/28M deal he's gonna be a pretty unhappy camper about halfway through the contract.

I mean this would be true about pretty much any player in hockey.. I could see him maybe signing like 6/24 but he wont be signing anything for 8 years

I like the first trade, hard pass on the Bruins deal. We have no need for DeBrusk & he's not very good anyway.

I like Debrusk. I think he can still be a very useful player and he changes the feel of the lineup. When he’s on he’s a very good puck hound. May need a change of scenery and he’s probably be great opposite Panarin. Plus Frederic is a good get for the bottom six and physicality. I’m not wholly against that deal.

I'm starting to think unless the Rangers get Eichel for a reasonable price or someone who is a clear upgrade to Strome that they like, maybe they should hold and wait for that center they want to come, maybe Barkov hits UFA in 2022, maybe Courtier hits FA in 2022 etc. There will be opportunities. Give Chytil more time/better linemates to see what you have if Strome isn't in long term plans and keep building like we are doing. Add some physicality to the bottom six and re asses the next year

Yes still early...no need to panic...look at the Canes if that was us OH MY Goodness...Center question is going to be answered this season...is Mika giving a home discount and does Filip take the next step as a top 6 player?

could we get Soucy from Minnesota? Any chance he is an option to be exposed to the ED they might trade him? 2.75M per year for 2 years which could bide time for Jones/Robertson/etc whoever isn't moved.

Theoretically could Minnesota protect Strome and Gauthier if Foligno was the only guy coming back? Maybe a pick attached to Foligno?

You know what would turn this teams competitive nature around at forward? Add Marcus and sign Nick to a 3 year front loaded deal.

Yeah, that could work actually.
