With rumors circulating that the Sabres may just give Eichel away so another team can deal with the injury, I really think Lundkvist has entered untouchable territory. If I'm Drury, I offer BUF Georgiev/Strome/Kravtsov & the 15th OA and say take it or leave it.

The injury terrifies me, but if they can get him at a discount like that, I think you have to take the plunge.

If this is true, why would you even want him?

I feel really bad for Nils. If he stays here, hes never going to meet the expectations some people have for him.

People wanting to trade for Couturier, let's look at this in depth for a moment...

Couturier is 28 years old. Danault is 28 years old.

Both are 2-way monsters and very good analytically with the slight exception being

If we just look at points Couturier is the more 'sexy' acquisition for sure but when you delve in to the numbers Danault would be incredibly proficient at filling a very similar role, albeit just for money in free agency and more than likely at a lower cap hit. His next contract will also start at a younger age than Couturier which means you will be paying for more of his prime than Couturier as well.

Look at the difference in splits for oZS% and dZS% as well as TOI and PP points. If we want to see why Couturier has more points, those play BIG factors.

Danualt is the answer to me...

Danault wouldn't have to match Strome's production, though if he plays with Panarin he'd get a nice bump in his numbers too.

He would literally be like a 1000000% upgrade in other areas of the game where our team collectively sucks right now.

I can understand being scared off by the contract, but he isn't just a 2c on a thin team.

When I think back of all the wasted years when Glen Sather first was given the job of running the organization and compare it to the job Esposito did. Phil was worse for sure but Esposito didn’t have the same amount of time that Glen had. After he was fired his Assistant G.M. (Joesph something) did a very good job with the draft before Neil Smith replaced him. So we’ll never know if Espo might have gotten better.

Honestly, I wish Mr. "If I had the Ranger's payroll, I'd win the Stanley Cup every year" would just retire already.

What context was being drawn on to call Danault a 3C on a competitive team and a 2C on a thin team? Montreal--a conference finalist right now--is worse than a thin team? Because he's currently their 1C.
Because the north division is an embarrassment to this sport so a team coming out of there is only impressive because a team needed to be a finalist from that division. They barely made the playoffs in that division, played two incredibly flawed teams to be where they are. They beat one of Vegas/Colorado, fine. All credit in the world. But that’s not happening.

The thought I guess would be that Eichel would be more flexible with a team that isnt Buffalo. Totally understand the hesitation though. If BUF doesn't like the deal, move to plan B.

With Nils, i expect he will be a top 4 RHD on an ELC through 2024, which is hugely beneficial to a team like the Rangers that expects to be a capped out contender for the foreseeable future. I don't think he is untouchable overall, just in an Eichel trade

**with 2 pts in 11 GP.

is that the production you want from our 1 or 2Cs? Not me. Not even from a defense-oriented 3C. You’ve got to put the puck in the net or help someone else do so if you’re getting those minutes.

Swapping out Strome for Danault would cure a lot of what this team lacks down the middle. My issue is, what does the contract look like? Especially with his stock rising with every series MTL plays.

Are we comfortable with a 6 year deal over 6 mil a year for a soon to be 29 year old?

Literally his underlying numbers scream otherwise

You don't need to look at underlying numbers, Danault has outproduced Strome at 5v5 over the past 2 seasons while never playing with anyone near Panarin's level.

Danault is obviously excellent defensively but he is also legit really good at offense. He's not a great goal scorer but he is one of the better playmakers in the league. He just doesn't play on the PP which is fine because he wouldn't play here anyway.

I get the concerns about term and how he ages but I have no idea where this hEs A dEfEnSiVe sPeCiAliSt thing comes from. He's an all around excellent player.

Where is the rumor coming from that the Sabres will basically give away Eichel so they don't have to deal with his injury?

I think Friedman's quote was something like " I'm curious if the Sabres will just pawn off Eichel and this decision (surgery? rehab?) to another team and likely be traded sooner than later" He didn't say they would give him away tho

Danault is a 3C on a competitive team or a 2C on a thin team. He’ll cost more than we should pay a 3C and he won’t match Strome’s production as 2C. He’s not a good option.

Even if that's the case, look at the Islanders right now.

They're paying Barzal, Nelson, Pageau all north of 5m down the middle.

Center depth wins championships.

If you can roll out Zib, Strome, Danault in some capacity and match lines, it makes us an infinitely stronger team.

Vegas has 1C make over 5M
Colorado has 1C make over 5M
Montreal has 0C make over 5M

I would not say that. Good players and good values win championships. It really doesn't matter if it's on the center or the wing.

I dont know if Zibanejad/Danault can win a cup (maybe the Rangers wingers), but someone like Danault/Krejci (he wont leave Boston) would be a great compliment to Zibanejad and take some of that pressure defensively off him and allow us to match up that center against the other teams top lines.

However, if Scheifele doesn't get suspended 4 games and they dont have Stastny for 2 I think? I dont think MTL beats WPG but a hot goalie can steal some series so maybe they could.

Right. I read that as that Buffalo will allow Eichel and his people to speak with interested teams about the plan forward prior to completing a trade.
