we'll never know. i think there's truth in the dolan temper tantrum over gorton trying to get it out there that whiny statement wasnt from the hockey office. it wouldn't surprise me if slats had been ignored or rejected by gorton on an issue or issues he wanted to have addressed and gone to jimmy to tell him what to think, seems entirely plausible given it all came to a head with his reappearance.
but agree, dolan doesn't have any idea what he's looking at on the ice or have any comprehension of the words he used. they were clearly spoonfed because they did make some contextual sense. its just the physicality / toughness shortcomings were by design last year to have lineup spots to plug kids in where they'd have an opportunity to play their game, even if it wasn't with top talent. and those isles games / the wilson incident were compounded by the few physical elements we had all simultaneously getting injured.
i'd love more grit an truculence as well. but to me, even with last years roster not having many guys who play on the edge or look to mix it up, there's no excuse for our top guys performance in big boy games. there's absolutely no attitude. no mika/panarin/kreider/buch etc don't need to chuckem with matty marts or run around trying to throw hits etc. but not one in the lot of them have ever come into a big game with an attitude and looking to set a tone, i'm talking mika maybe one time being physically dominant in winning a puck battle early, kreider or panarin or buch getting a puck and making a point early to drop their shoulder and drive with the sole purpose of causing a traffic jam at the net. set a tone. you can bring in gritty players, but you won't see a team feed off each other with it unless the guys at the top of the roster are willing to fight a hell of a lot harder for their ice when a team plays competent defensively and closes space quickly.

I would venture a guess the Rangers are near the bottom of list of teams Philly would trade Couturier to.

Had me until he said the Rangers should hire Tocchet, with the rationale that the Rangers defense could benefit from the coaching change. How much better can the defense really get? As a group they made huge leaps this past season. Losing Hajek and Smith is addition by subtraction and replacing them with Lundkvist and just about anyone else in itself is going to improve things. Not the coach.

watching Vegas, they have Chandler Stephenson as their 1C because they have top wingers playing with him in Stone and Pacioretty. Rangers don’t need Eichel and Zibanejad bc they have wingers who can drive the offense. They need a reliable 2 way center (two of them) who is good for 40-50 points and taking some responsibility away from Zibanejad in that department where they can match up lines

no unlikely but Zibanejad is better than any center they have. Rangers have a 1C just as long as Covid or some other virus doesn’t show up next year too
