If MacKinnon asks out after the Avalanche collapse this round what would we have to offer for him? Something starting with Zac Jones or Nils Lundkvist? He only has a couple of years left before he gets a huge salary increase so I wouldn’t want to give up anything too good.

They haven’t got out of the second round his whole career and they haven’t even named him captain there. He might be getting fed up with the situation and want a change. He’s also from the east coast.

I agree. You never know what is brewing under the surface, I also know for a fact that there has been turmoil in Colorado between the nukes in the past. Looking at how things have looked on the ice during the regular season it seems like that was a thing of the past, but you never know.

With that said, no matter if its MacKinnon (who would be an insane addition), Eichel who I like a lot less, I just don't think it makes sense for us to take on a big contract (in MacKs case, a future big contract). Looking around the league, having down right mediocre top guns suffice but teams without depth and with glaring weaknesses are punished mercilessly for it.

I think we should focus on establishing a winning mentality which especially includes adding someone that will stand up for his teammates no matter who is on the other side, but besides that, I am perfectly OK with letting the other roster issues sort themselves out unless true hockey moves that makes sense on the ice can be made. Its hard to deny that moving Strome/Buch could make sense in that perspective to change the outlook of the team.

15th overall pick for Dylan McIlrath
When I think back of all the wasted years when Glen Sather first was given the job of running the organization and compare it to the job Esposito did. Phil was worse for sure but Esposito didn’t have the same amount of time that Glen had. After he was fired his Assistant G.M. (Joesph something) did a very good job with the draft before Neil Smith replaced him. So we’ll never know if Espo might have gotten better.

Not with Colorados roster we're not.
You mean the one that's about to go out in the playoffs in the second round again? How many more kicks at the can are they gonna get when it comes time for Makar, Landeskog and McKinnon to be paid? It's also Colorado, not NY. Whoever takes over our roster is getting a ready made rebuilt team with a 1C, 1D, 1G and a treasure chest full of top prospects and young players. If McKinnon isn't in full beast mode then we've seen what happens.

With rumors circulating that the Sabres may just give Eichel away so another team can deal with the injury, I really think Lundkvist has entered untouchable territory. If I'm Drury, I offer BUF Georgiev/Strome/Kravtsov & the 15th OA and say take it or leave it.

The injury terrifies me, but if they can get him at a discount like that, I think you have to take the plunge.
