yeah that creates a potential issue on the blueline has nothing to do with andersson or howden. the options are 7/3/1 or 8/1. so to protect a 4th dman you'd need to expose 3 more forward so that makes no sense

we've got a ton of D men...if you lose one it will suck but not the end of the world...pretty much all the teams that made deals to avoid losing guys to vegas ended up making bad deals.
Is protecting Howden and Lemieux worth losing Hajek, who we project to be a top-4? I'm not sure.

You have to be aware of the upcoming expansion, but I’m not about to start dealing off young roster players at this point. See how the current guys play out, see how rosters and prospects develop. There may be a tough decision eventually and there may be not. It’s way too early right now.

If our roster is that loaded by then it’s a great sign. If you look at the last expansion, teams found ways to work around it.

Would honestly rather lose a guy to expansion “for nothing” than trade the necessary asset(s) to cut a side deal with Seattle. If the Rangers don’t have the organizational depth by then to survive losing a guy like Hajek, Howden or Lemieux, then frankly they have bigger problems. I don’t think any of those players are major pieces on a contending team.

I am not suggesting I am pro or against this, but has anyone heard anything of Laine to NYR?

I just caught this tweet on the main boards:

Translates to:

  1. I received some information in the Patrik Laine file: Does it seem that the # CH is not really in the race anymore! Two teams from the East are really serious in the case, including the Rangers, who have already submitted a SOLID offer. # Habs # Canadians
If the Jets exchange Wool, it will be in the East, unless there is a huge overpayment from a Western team. Both sides are still far from an agreement on a contract, but it is known throughout the league that the Jets will equal any hostile bid.

One thing to keep in mind concerning roles and roster position is that it's not necessarily about what line someone is on. In many cases its about seeing which combinations work well together.

And in the absence of working well together, determining which combinations aren't complete dumpster fires.

Totally agree. Taking that into consideration, here's what I would run with so far:

Bread-Zibs-Buch
Kravstov-Howden-Kakko
Kreider-Anderson-Chytil
Lemieux-Strome-Fast
McKegg/Names

Skjei-Trouba
Staal-Fox
Hajek-DeAngelo
Lindgren

Unless the "solid offer" is Strome, Names, and Staal then there is zero chance we could fit Laine under the cap.
I would guess kreider, deangelo and names or kreider names and a future pick. The issue is moving CK really creates a vacuum of established NHL forwards with the pedigree to maintain the professional atmosphere (on and off the ice) around such a young team. Not sure I would love Laine's floating with this team, but it was something worth sharing in case anyone heard anything about it.

David Quinn would hate Laine and vice versa
Recipe for disaster

Is this guy serious/for real? Please no. I am sure Winnipeg will want 2-3 roster players and a first rounder.
Please no!

He said in another tweet Kreider+Kravtsov+1st.

I doubt that a) Winnipeg goes for that, b) Gorton would move Krav OR our 1st, and c) that we could sign Laine for Kreider's hit.

laine is a world class scorer. i mean elite shot. other than that, not alot to get excited about. skates in mudd.

questions about his attitude and willingness to train.

ive heard rumblings of not popular in the locker room too.

pass unless they take staal and smith back.

I mean, c'mon. Who the hell is this guy? Kreider in a deal like this, sure. But Krav and a 1st? There's no way.

I'm not giving a one trick pony like Laine any kind of long term deal. I'll be livid if the Rangers spend assets to trade for him on top of it.

He's this generation's Michael Ryder. Before you kill me for the comparison, think about it. Can score 30 goals a year and not much else. Skating and compete level are suspect. Questionable off ice habits.

Stay away.

I'd be interested depending on the price. The Rangers have a glut of players, perhaps the Jets like a few of them to help fill some of their holes.

the ask would start with kreider and adam fox im sure.

kreider, fox and andersson perhaps. no way i give them a high 1st.

add staal and im listening if they add perhaps.

I still think Kravtsov gets assigned to Hartford after a few game:

Bread Zibby Buch
Kreider Chytil Big Kakk
Strome Howden Fast
Nammy Andersson Lemiux
Nieves

Skjei Trouba
Staal Deangelo
Hajek Fox

Laine is an awful hockey player .. just awful. But he can shoot realllllll hard. So he's got that 1 skill everyone wants.

I'd do kreider namestnikov and strome for him.

The Jets would be morons if they did.
