Like I always say, line hierarchy completely falls apart under slight criticism anyway.

Everyone has Goodrow on the "4th line" in the mock lineup which I happen to agree with for whatever that's worth. At the same time, he was 5th in ice time amongst our forwards. Do you anticipate him falling from there to below 9th? Probably not. If he doesn't is he really a 4th liner? I don't know.

It's kind of a subjective characterization that doesn't mean anything.

Trocheck is here to be a fit on the Panarin line. It's the Panarin line. We know what its role is and isn't. It doesn't need a ranking.
Well because skills & ability are different than usage no?

I mean I understand when posters say this guy is/isn't a 1C or is or isn't a #1 D or whatever.

Goodrow is used like a utility knife and that's part of his value.

I wouldnt trade Panarin for Tkachuk.

How will Tkachuk do away from Johnny Hockey? Put Tkachuk-Strome-Hunt on the ice and you won’t see much fire worn. Tkachuk will become a 12m player if he wants to. PFs don’t win you cups.
Panarin is seriously the most underrated player by any fanbase I've ever seen. (well aside from Kravtsov ofc 😜)

Matthew I might entertain.

Brady is the most overrated player in the NHL currently and for a one/two-year window I wouldn't trade Kreider for him, let alone Panarin.

Brady Tkachuk is very good, but he's very good like Kreider is very good. He's not a superstar. His father and brother are. Brady is absolutely The Godfather III out of that family. Two Hall of Famers and "eh, I'll watch it."

Ottawa signed Brady Tkachuk to a 7 year contract last fall. Matthew Tkachuk signed a 3 year contract after his ELC expired. The Flames didn't have the room for a long-term contract. They were tight against the cap.

Unlike Mitch Marner’s six-year, US$65-million deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tkachuk’s is a bridge contract allowing the Flames to squeeze under the salary cap while giving Tkachuk the prospect of a richer deal in the not-so-distance future.

Calgary was slightly over the cap with the Tkachuk transaction, so a roster move is a possibility.

Tkachuk is signing that contract with another team.

We don't need three guys and you would have to bring in another star player to replace Panarin's production. There's no way that scenario ends without acquiring a worse Panarin. In the last four games against Tampa, we scored one even strength goal.

We were low-key 16th in goals scored. We're not that good at it.

"Fewer triple-digit point guys" is not high on this teams list of needs.
Unless, you know, you look at why we didn’t score any goals in those games and realize that it was because the whole team was playing like Panarin and Strome at ES.

Listen, I personally hate the way the game changes in the playoffs. But the fact of the matter is that it does. You score goals by shooting and crashing and hoping for dumb bounces. It just is what it is.

First of all, you have to qualify for the playoffs. Without Panarin, this is a bottom-5 offensive team in the NHL.

21-22 is really the only year Panarin wasn't good at even strength and he was on a terrible line. The idea that Panarin is Patrick Kane at even strength is an invention of recency.

And Patrick Kane has three Cups and a Conn Smythe. So does Ovechkin have a Conn Smythe and he scores about as many goals 5v5 as Lafreniere does with first line minutes. Guys who just score and do it with PP1 time are etched all over the Cup.

I like Matt Tkachuk's game. A snarly prick of a player with skill.

Could use that here in NY
Going to be a grade A example of an overpaid winger because of "heart" if he ends up re-signing in Calgary or going somewhere else but St. Louis (where he would probably take a discount). Not saying he's not a great player, but he's not a top scoring winger and thus doesn't deserve that much north of 10m if even that. He scored 104 points now but he's not doing that again without Gaudreau.

I don't think anyone is suggesting to trade for Brady Tkachuk. All of the suggestions are for Matthew given his current situation in Calgary, but it's ridiculously unlikely that we'd be able to make any move for him given the assets it'd require/cap moves necessary to make it fit.
