I forget his wording, but Staple suggested on a podcast during the season that Nils would prefer to be moved. With the Rangers' recent history with such matters, I would be sweating profusely the moment they assigned him to Hartford.

Lundkvist should look at the kravtsov situation if he thinks demanding a trade is a smart move. It will tank his value immediately and he’ll be stuck here. He signed a 3 year contract, no one had a gun to his head, play better and they’ll make room for him in the NHL. He was nothing special in the 25 games he played last year. The rangers specifically signed Nemeth to help him and they were both godawful. Some AHL time might help him.

I was in the building for his first NHL goal so I hope it works out for him. He should have a good career as a Stralman type defenseman, it’s just won’t be here.

Blais is rarely healthy for the entire year and thats a problem but he is a better player than people give him credit for. I remember Blues fans saying he was a large part of their cup run. If he stays healthy he will make an impact.

Blais deserves to be judged by both sides on more than 14 games. Willing to give him the benefit of the doubt based on the fact that he plays a style we desperately need more of and he’s won a Cup. He should not be playing in the top 6 though

Winnipeg would be so smooth brained to nit take Guhle in a deal because he is lefty. I don’t think that can be real. Especially if they are trying to move Dillon out; that alone makes a spot

They have a ton of LHS. Morrisey, Schmidt, Dillon, Logan Stanley, Dylan Samberg and Ville Heinola.

Schmidt has played both sides before going there, but hardly surprising it hasn’t worked out. It’s like when we signed Brendan Smith. He was never bad for us at LD, but never close to being solid as a RD.

On Nils.....he didn't have a great year but there are some big adjustments coming over from Europe both on and off the ice and that might have factored in to his play as well. He wasn't terrible with the Rangers but the Rangers limited his ice time and sheltered him as much as they could. He didn't play as well as Jones in Hartford either.....then again Jones didn't have some of the above issues to contend with. I would expect at least some decent improvement from Nils this year. Ultimately I do think Nils does get moved though. The Rangers are not going to move Trouba to make room for him. Trouba was a massive force for us both regular season and playoffs. Right now that final RD spot is absolutely Schneider's to lose and Schneider's easily better in the defensive zone than either Lundkvist or Jones.

On Blais....not saying he's injury prone. Because there may be an argument for that. That said the ACL injury he suffered last year is not an injury prone injury. It was a result of a dirty play by a dirty player. That could have happened to anyone had Subban pulled it on them. Because of it there really is no fair way to the player to judge his season. It was taken away from him. I don't believe he is top 6 material. He is a heavy hard hitting forward and as far as wings go a better option IMO than Reaves or Hunt.

Why? Honestly, I’ve been on the “trade Nils for a young C” bandwagon, but with the addition of Trocheck and Chytil still here, I think Nils is going to be important to have around when we inevitably have to move Trouba, probably next off-season.

If we trade Nils now, we’ll be handing that job to a prospect like skinner or emberson, or paying another older veteran. Nils-Schneider with Jones jumping in here and there, is fine.

Why does everyone hate Nils? I thought he did a fine job while up here, first taste of NA hockey.

Agreed keep Nils cause it’s inevitable that Trouba is going to go

By that time Schneider ideally steps up like Miller just did

Fox, Schneider, Lundqvist

Interesting player but with the plethora of wings and lack of centers we have, I don't see how we could attempt it.

Unless you're trading Fox, you need to hope a player waives his NMC for salary purposes.

Zibanejad: NMC until 2029
Panarin: NMC until 2026

I doubt they waive. They have all the leverage. No expiration that limits their leverage any time soon.

Then there's Kreider who just became the 4th in franchise history to score 50 goals in a season with a NMC expiring in 2024 but would they really trade him now? They should, but they won't.

That leaves Trouba who also has a NMC that expires in 2024, but they already need that cap to re-sign Laf, Miller and Chytil long-term so I expect him to waive for cap relief, not to fit Tkachuk under the cap.

Nils Lindkvist will not be content spending the next couple of seasons in the AHL.

The Rangers can't trade 3 or 4 players from their lineup to pay Tkachuk. Are the Rangers playing with an 18 player roster this season?

Trouba's NMC expires in two seasons. The Rangers better hope the salary cap increases in the summer of 24-25. Moving Trouba's $8M in a flat cap environment will not be easy. His limited no trade clause in 24-25 is a 15 no trade list. It's not a fait accompli the Rangers will be able to move Kreider or Trouba in two seasons. The trade market has been terrible this summer.

Okay but Guhle is a better asset than most of those named. If not all of them. You get Guhle in and then you trade from your surplus. Let’s you cut cap that way too

The only way you’re getting Tkachuk is if Calgary retains salary. Which means an even larger return their way on top of what’s already going to be a substantial return.

Are the Rangers willing to give up 4 or 5 pieces for a rental Tkachuk? Because there’s also no way to sign him long term.

How is Calgary retaining money? Tkachuk is a free agent.

I'm not too good with faces anymore...but there was one tall guy came right in after us and he was in the Josh Anderson group...tall and bald...I could not place him though...he was definitely a hockey player though LOL....maybe Matteau Jr ? There are some PEI guys that play in the AHL and they are friends with some of these guys from Junior leagues as well . Their friendships bring them together for these tournaments every Summer.....for some it is free golf and a mini vacation on the house .

Just found out the guy was Al Iafrate...geesh...he is in fantastic shape still and ripped !!!
I guess Al finally lost the rest of his hair. I was always dumbfounded with his hair and hair loss as a kid

If Nils wants to go back to Sweden they would let him but I’m sick of young players complaining about AHL time

They sign the contract and need developmental time often . It’s not weird to ask him to play in the AHL

To Anaheim: Artemi Panarin, Kappo Kakko, 2024 1st round pick
To Calgary: Mason McTavish, Nils Lundkvist, Brett Berard, Olen Zellweger, NYR 2023 1st round pick, ANA 2024 2nd round pick
To NYR: Matthew Tkachuk, Troy Terry, Kevin Rooney(just to really f*** with us)

Artemi waives his NTC to go play with his boyfriend and we finally get the player that we so desparately need for next season - oh and we also get Matt Tkachuk and Troy Terry

Philly isn't even cap compliant at the moment.

Isles cap space is a mirage. Most of that open space is going to be eaten by Dobson and Romanov. They don't have the chips to get it done either.

NJD have the space and the chips, but it doesn't sound like he would have any interest in extending there.

It will be the blues when the dust settles. Interest from both sides, a big contract player on STL who WANTS out to clear the necessary space to fit him in for next year and other pieces which fit the bill for a trade that they'd be willing to part with.
I believe the Blues have too many of their players with trade protection, and thus will lose out. Nashville is a possibility, but they have few good players to trade. I think Dallas is the best option To work a deal with Calgary for Matt. Reickart from Florida expressed a desire to head west since he is from Vancouver, so Florida is another option.

So are believers of the Rangers - Tkachuck rumors this AM?

The only thing that sticks in my mind is the report Drury was very unhappy with Panarin’s post season.

Jake Neighbors is from Calgary. The Flames will probably want Neighbors in the deal.

I read their owner Murray Edwards is not interested in a rebuild.

Matt Duchene doesn't have a restriction clause this season. Nashville could trade Duchene to Calgary. How big money players can Nashville afford? Ryan Johansen doesn't have any clauses. Forberg is at $8.5M. They added McDonagh's $6.75M.
I doubt Calgary trades a 24 year old star for a 30 + year old one though.

Blais seems like the guy that goes at the deadline, not as an asset, but just to clear money for when they get Kane or whatever expiring contract they trade for the playoff run.
I imagine he’ll be on LTIR by then.

I do wonder about the Jones/Lundkvist situation. Both appear ready for 3rd pairing minutes and we only have one spot. Robertson at least is a little behind them. I think it’s a tough pill to swallow for either Jones or Lundkvist to start in Hartford.

I’d probably start Lundkvist in the NHL and if he struggles, call up Jones.
Based on performance, Jones has earned NHL minutes far more than Lundkvist has. He also happens to play the same side we have an opening on. He also happens to be a PPQB, which we desperately need for that 2nd unit.

Jones deserves a legitimate shot at 3LD. It would solve some ills in our lineup if he sticks.

Blais has a cap hit of about 1.5... at the trade deadline him getting moved would open up what 350-400K cap space? And he's a perfect piece for the playoffs. I don't think he will be a TDL move. Even if he is hurt, LTIR.

The real problem is Hartford. No offense to anyone who lives there, but it might as well be Siberia to someone from Europe. Other NHL franchises with AHL teams in nicer cities don't tend to have this problem. Move the team somewhere nicer, and closer to the city.
