I disagree about Chytil. If he has a modest improvement, I can see them doing what they did with ADA a while back (ie: offering him the same cap number he has now on a 1-year extension because of the cap crunch). If he explodes, I could see them looking to move Kreider (especially if Kreider comes back down to earth). I just don't see how we will get a middle-six center as good as Chytil for less cap than Chytil.

I also think, particularly for someone with his combination of youth and mediocre-ish production, that it would be a huge mistake to pencil someone like Mysak into that 3rd line center spot. How is Mysak any better than the options we already have in our own system? He looks a lot like Montreal's version of Ryder Korczak to me, and I wouldn't be ready to throw Korczak onto the 3rd line right now.
I'm hopeful we can keep Chytil, i dont see him as a top 6 c but i see him as a real good 3c on a good team.

speaking of PTO, Sonny Milano is available. He would add more speed which the Rangers can use especially up front.

Milano and DeHann would be good options for PTO. Rangers need more defensive physical types that can skate wel. De Haan is underrated.

The thing is with Milano, he's not gritty. Gallant likes his bottom six to have sandpaper. He's not going to get top six minutes here so he'd have to have like a Matt Puempel/Brandon Pirri role (remember them?).

He's the kind of guy who might go somewhere and thrive as like a fifth or sixth best forward, or never recapture what he did with the Ducks this year.

I remember DeHaan as being injury prone but looking at his HockeyDB, he's been fine with one exception. Would he come here for a PTO or league minimum?

Yea I know that Milano is not gritty but he would help with the team speed and know what to do with his speed and acceleration which is an issue at times the past few seasons with this team.

Rangers have a log jam of prospects from the rebuild that they never moved for a big piece and just don’t have legit spots for them especially if they’re marginal players. Nils falls into this category. Even Matt Robertson would be much higher on another teams depth chart.

I imagine he doesn't have many options at this point. It's possible that multiple teams have offered him league min and he's waiting to see if he can get a bit more from anyone. It's also possible no one has offered more than league min or a PTO and he isn't going to get any better offers. Europe could be an option, but as he is Canadian, I would think even a PTO would be preferable.

Whether or not he would come here on a PTO/Min deal is impossible to say, but I would think he'd be open to it. Both he and his agent can see our defensive depth chart and see that he would be competing with Hajek, Jones and Robertson for the 6th and 7th spots. He probably won't find a better path to an NHL job, and we're a good team to boot. But who knows if Drury has even reached out to him.

Mysak is one of those prospect names people remember from his draft year. And so, he's got name value. Now, he's not a terrible hockey player and he just captained the Czechia team. But his goals, even at the WJC level, are the dirty kind. Not of the skilled variety where he shows elusiveness, vision or silky mitts. He's a decent player and he may have an AHL or NHL career. But people are overrating him as a prospect for sure. And if it's all we get for Nils it'll be poor asset management in my opinion. I think I'd sooner settle for Montreal's 2nd round pick in 2023 and maybe another pick before Mysak and a pick. If we're targeting a center in this deal I want his ceiling to be middle 6 six center. Not bottom six center. I feel Mysak is at best that latter. That said, i don't hate him as a prospect. He's got value. Just not equivalent to a potential top 4 D who may run a PP in the future.

Mysak fits the bill insofar that he got that center engine that we haven't had there for a long time. With that said, he isn't quite on par with guys like Rossi but I can't really comment on Mysak's growth potential, haven't seen him enough. Ultimately I am down for stockpiling these guys -- i.e. that fits that bill of having a really good engine at center ice -- to see what comes out of it a couple of years down the road. We did that at RD with Boyle, Shattenkirk, Pionk, TDA, Fox, Nils and co, the one we traded for Gauthier. A few others. With those guys, the pay-off was great of course, If we do that at center ice we can't expect to see 3 guys like Pionk, TDA and Fox emerge and litterary be top 15-20 in scoring, of course. But odds to get one are a heck of a lot higher if you roll the dice a handful of times than if you don't.

I'd rather Owen Beck.

A lot of Brayden Point similarities. Probably will take off this season

Don't know if he is untouchable, but from MTL Kaiden Guhle is definitely the kid I would target. For a defender, the game has become so much about the ability to be a meaningful presense on the ice. Hedman dominating like a third of the ice is essential to Tampa. When KAM plays his best hockey, he owns his side/corner of the ice.

I love Kaiden Guhle's ability to just own his side of the ice. He is always champing at the bits to get close to the puck and make a difference. All this in contrast to most D's in the game right now who got to play with pretty big margins to not get burned defensively by the speed all team's plays with. Like almost all Ds play defense with margin, and when doing that they don't at all improve their ability to step up and play a more aggressive type of hockey. KAM was regularly burned with this in college and at the junior level. Many tore him apart because he ended up making mistakes nobody else did. And when he got to the NHL he had a side to his game that is more or less unique. He made mistakes in junior hockey that nobody else did, but that was because he tried things nobody else did. He steps players up at the redline, even if they aren't pressured. He might only get it done like 3 of 4 times, but the value of winning the puck high in those situations are so great that it makes up for the occacions he don't get it done. Guhle has that same ability. Most D's will only try to step up a forward if the forward is completly engaged with a forechecker pushing him towards the boards. Guhle comfortably and with high hitting rate is just really aggressive here. If you attack on his side of the ice, he will attack you.

Even if he may still be a little raw, he cannot be long from NHL level and once there he can't be long from taking on a bigger task.

Getting a LD is always kind of unsexy, but long-term it makes a lot of sense. There will be cap casualities and even if Lindgren surivives his current contract the risk got to be high that we can't out bid everyone if he becomes a UFA.

Guhle is probably Habs' most untouchable player in their system after Slaf. They know, all of Canada knows, how good he may be

Chytil has one more year on his current contract and still will be under the Rangers control for two more seasons after as RFA. Going into 22-23 his role seems to be pretty defined - 3C unless Zibanejad or Trocheck get injured and even further away from 1PP. So getting 3C minutes and 2PP opportunities - what Chytil "break-out" should look like in terms of production? I bet even 40+ points is not a given. Can the Rangers find a way keep him for 2 more years after next season? I am hopeful it's possible with just a modest raise over his current cap hit.

Can someone list the big dates coming up for the new season. I've kind of tuned out on the Rangers for the summer, especially with the Mets having a good year, but I'm all in for a new season of Rangers hockey.

Camp opens
First exhibition games
Opening night, etc.

Elliotte Friedman mentioned the NBA issue from a few years ago when they had a big cap increase. The NBA wanted to negotiate the cap increase and spread it out over a few years. The NBA PA said no. The NBA called it "smoothing".

The NBA will have another big cap increase and this topic has come up again.

One group of players benefited from the ingcrwae while some players did not.

Elliotte said the cap increase will be in the summer of 2024.

The NBA cap jumped from $70M to $94M in one summer in 2016. The NHL cap increase will be less than $24M. John Shannon had mentioned as much as $10M a few weeks ago.

The current projection is probably 15m+ but if inflation sticks, it could be as much as 24m in 24’…
