Where did the Penguins and Rakell stuff come from? I was watching the NHL network earlier today. Kenny Daneyko linked Rakell with Pittsburgh. I saw the Forever Blueshirts guy tweeted it but he didn’t mention it came from Daneyko. He likes to stir the pot and generate page views. Pittsburgh wants to add a forward in a hockey trade. They don't want a rental. Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek discussed that last week.

how can a team that has so many defensemen people praise still need more defensemen
Because they love to add defense at the deadline. And Bear hasn’t really been awesome. They could stand to upgrade a spot. They are a bit banged up too. Canes def wanted Manson

Let them trade for overrated Chariot. I would prefer Lindholm, watch the Rangers get Chariot and Canes get Lindholm. But I hope that is not the case.

Lindholm is a terrible addition for the Rangers.

There is zero chance they can re-sign him and he doesn’t give them a cup. Hard pass. Not that Chiarot is a good idea either. Either is a waste of assets

Still would like Chytil to get moved in a hockey trade
I mean, what exactly does a hockey trade for Chytil look like at this stage? You aren’t getting a center. You aren’t getting a more established winger. I don’t think he has done anything to show he has a ton of value around the league.

I mean I’d like to trade the Chytil’s and Gauthier’s of the team that have no role, but what’s the appetite for that? Aunt a change of scene player that also hasn’t found their game yet? Not sure how that helps the Rangers too much. Chytil is certainly not the primary piece of a trade.

Gotta agree. Chytil is a package deal.

Manson will be solid in Colorado. He’ll be glued to Girard or Toews at evens and he’s a solid PK guy. Solid deal for both teams. Can’t say this bodes well for Chiarot yielding a first to Montreal.

Agreed. The slander against scheifele is completely ridiculous. The guy is a stud and would be the 3rd or 4th best player on this team and he’s probably better then that
It's funny to see how far this fan base has come - that some of us would turn their nose at even thinking about acquiring a player who is going on 5-straight PPG seasons .. and in a "horrible" year - by his standards .. has 51 pts in 54 games.

Just for comparisons sake - Mika has 1* PPG season for his CAREER - this season would be 2 if he keeps the pace. We did back flips for Rick Nash who people still walk to the end of the Earth to defend ... and he had 2 point per game seasons when he was acquired. He had 0 with the Rangers. Gaborik had 3 - more if we include injury shortened seasons - pre Rangers-- he had 1 in New York.

Scheif easily would have been the top offensive player of the Lundqvist era - save for Jagr. His track record of offensive success is longer and much more consistent than ZIbanejad. By every offensive metric, he is a game changer. If the idea is to match fire with top fire across the league - there are few players who fit inside the current cap constraints - Scheif is one.

I got the hesitations on the defensive side of his game - but at $6.1 million for 2 more seasons - there's few better fits to make the offense as dynamic as any team in the league.

Cheap checking line players will be available every off season - if MS is acquired - the Rangers top 6 is set for a minimum of 2, 2.5 seasons if it could be hammered out by the deadline.

Everyone is going to ask for a 1st and everyone should. That’s the cost to jump the line and get a deal done before the 21st. That’s the desperation cost. That’s why nothing is done yet. No one paying those prices. Yet. Selling teams waiting out the market

My hesitations are - is he actually a good 5-on-5 player? Or just a great PP player? We desperately need the former, and really don't need the latter (especially going into the playoffs where the importance of PP is far less than the regular season).

When I look at the Rangers needs, the first thing I think is “man this team could really use another offensive first forward who doesn’t play a lick of defense”

That’s what Schiefle is

NHL Ranks
Last 4 seasons - 10th in Even strength points (5th among Centers) -- McDavid, Drai, Matthews, Mack top 4 -- 36 more points than Mika
Last 3 seasons - 10th in Even strength points (5th among Centers) -- McDavid, Drai, Matthews, Mack top 4 -- 27 more points than Mika
Last 2 seasons - 13th in Even srength points (5th among Center) -- McDavid, Drai, Matthews, Mack top 4 -- 17 more points than Mika

So yes, he scores at even strength.

While I share your concerns about where he’s generating offense, power play is just as important in the playoffs. Penalties called per 60 for 20-21 regular season was 3.1, in the playoffs it was 3.4.

The Rangers have, give or take 6-7 mill to spend on 1-2 players right now -- you can go 2 mid - or 1 above contract.

Defense first players will always be cheaper to find -- the Rangers also need 5 on 5 play drivers --- an area where they have struggled this year. Turning our noses up at an upper echelon scoring forward who fits the cap range - and our biggest hole position wise, would be non sensical.

No matter what the last few roster sports are going to be low salaried players... would you rather be looking for offensive depth or defensive depth when it comes to those spots.. the defensive depth, forward wise - as always - will be much cheaper. This isn't complicated.

Don’t worry they will move the goal posts again

I’d take scheif in a heartbeat and I’d be willing to move any player under 21 not name Schneider, laf, or kakko
