The Rangers having to pay more would have been a conference and in-state tax, but they were never sending him here anyway - it costs those players because it was never realistic that he would have been sent here, which goes back to the point I'm making. A player's cost or value is a lot more than just their skill. NMC+Age+Available Suitors+Length of Contract will all go a long way to determining any player's worth.

Again, what did we get for McD? Very similar situation.
So just curious why do all Jets fan completely reject our offer of Strome, Nils, Kravy and a pick? Right they don't know anything and completely undervalue our players. Lots of quantity not as much quality.
Again the MCD trade? Why does one team have to make the mistake another team made in that trade?

If that gets us a ppg talented center then lets do it. I will hope that will comes to fruition. excuse me if I'm skeptical.
ppg talented center
with only two years left until UFA
who is 29
who has a M-NTC
and whose list of suitors wont be gigantic

We're not talking about a 22 year old RFA here. context matters.

Domi is an interesting player. I feel like he is the type who would thrive here both in his playing style and his personality/temperament. I think he would be a fit a a center with our group of wingers.

However, what would he cost and what would he be looking for on his next deal? He's at 5.3m right now, but would he be looking for an AAV raise or would he more look for term?

As a rental first, I wonder what he would cost.
Maybe a 1 year prove it deal or something similar to what Strome got, 2 year 4ishM per.

Makes sense not to add them back to the active roster until after the deadline. Since you have to be at 23 active skaters max at 3 PM deadline day, the Rangers can trade for two forwards and just send Barron and Brodzinski down, and then add Kakko and Rooney back after when you don’t need to be at 23 players anymore.

That is true. Just add to the max roster then waive McKegg later. He would clear for sure so Gallant can relax

Pretty sure no one claimed after the deadline can play in the playoffs.

Why on God's green earth would I care about what they think at all. This board isn't reality, it's like twitter. You've been around here long enough you know how these things go. Fans of team 1 getting the player go low, Fans of team 2 trading the player go high and it's always somewhere in the middle. We literally just saw that with Eichel.

The McD trade, mistake or not, is still an example. That's the package he was getting, because of other factors.

Really don't want Drury to deal any of the top prospects if its for a rental. This roster has too many holes to patch up... want to see Drury be aggressive and go after signing Meyers and trading for McBain. Moves that wouldn't require much in assets.

It’s not like they arguing over a deal. The Coyotes would gladly ship Kessel out for a 4th or 5th. If the Rangers take his whole cap hit (easy to do) It then frees the Coyotes to be the third team in another salary retention deal.
How about NYR just become the third team in a salary retention deal. Kassel doesn’t help this team, IMO.

He could be had for a 4th, no reason for both of these picks.

Also, I would take him for a 4th, if only for the lols. This is the kind of deadline rental I can get behind. Rangers will sell a ton of jerseys.
Sorry I was being sarcastic based on what Bobbop said the Yotes would look to trade Kessel so they could retain on another contract. So they would essentially be paying the Rangers to be able to so that.

Oh shit my bad then!

Regardless, I still take him for a 4th. Who cares right? Make it a 4th 2023 they probably still take it.

Eliotte Friedman on the Jeff Marek show.

There is a lot of interest in Jack McBain. Elliotte mentioned Arizona and Montreal as a few of the teams interested in McBain. Both of them have the extra picks to trade. The Habs are also interested in Zacha.

Jacob Chychrun. The Coyotes wanted to move the player a few months ago because they were afraid of the player getting hurt. Chychrun is now hurt. They don't know about the severity of the injury.

They mentioned Claude Giroux to the Avs to replace Gabriel Landeskog. Elliotte said the Flyers like Drew Helleson. Elliotte felt Giroux was going to Florida until the Landeskog injury. Varlamov to the Avs? He started against the Islanders last week and that wasn't a coincidence. Colorado is going for it.

Hampus Lindholm is/was the Leafs top target. The Leafs have so many needs now. The Leafs have an issue in goal. They need help on D. They need help on the 4th line.

Vancouver and Pittsburgh. The Penguins have so many contracts coming up. Malkin. Letang. Rust. They can't do a Brock Boeser contract. Too much contract uncertainty. They like John Marino.

he is also an incredibly hard worker. dogged on forecheck and backcheck. for a team that can be soft with its effort adding a player like that sometimes makes other players follow in his effort. i know that sounds pathetic but sometimes its necessary and it makes these high effort guys even more valuable.

As I've said before - With Lehkonen's traits and the added bonus that he is a fellow Finn for KK, if he was guaranteed to be extended I would be more than fine giving up a first for him. You don't always have to get a flashy offensive player who scores and doesn't play any defense when trading a 1st.

Lehkonen is similar to a Goodrow type with more finish to his game and he gets twice as many shots on goal. I like the Fedotenko comparison defensively. With an already strong D structure and Igor in the pipes, you would reinforce that even more. His age is right. Extend him for 3 seasons.

He is the type of add that helps win playoff games and will deepen the bench. He can play all over the lineup and on both wings, you can even send him out in OT, no problem. When Blais is back (and Kakko), everything slides down and the deadwood of McKegg and Gauthier are out and you have a formidable set of lines.

Did I mention he can PK? He is a great fit.

He's played 4 mins on 3v3 the last 3 years and in his career has 21 minutes played with 0 points. He does not seem like the type of player you should be sending out in OT.

Nobody is paying anything of value to have money held for Kessel and AZ can just do that themselves.
I’m not suggesting they be the third team in a deal for Kessel… I’m suggesting it for whatever deal dumping Kessel’s salary would open up AZ for. Or any other deal that requires a 3rd for salary retention, INSTEAD of using up that cap space on Kessel. You really want Kessel? Look at him as a UFA.

Domi can be fun but he sucks ass defensively too. This whole forward core is awful defensively. They desperately need improvement there and he does not help.

They also just need talent there, and if Domi is cheap then whatever. But this forward group really needs help with speed and defense, in the form of at least two forwards probably (plus getting Kakko back).

Ahh ok. I don't really want Kessel, I'd only want him because it would be funny.

Seems like there has been chatter all year about Giroux going to the Avs. What are they going to give up though? They dont have a 1st in 2022. They dont have a 2nd in 2022.

Unlikly they give up Newhook. Shane Bowers was a former 1st rounder who hasn't done too much in the AHL. Flyers likely won't do that. Kaut is scoring goals in the AHL, 12 in 31 games, but that seems lopsided for the Avs. Cant imagine the Avs give up Bowen for a rental. He was a former 4th OA.

Maybe Jost and Kaut, or Jost and Bowers? Feel like Giroux wants to go there, but other teams likely would have better offers. Hayes got a 1st and Lemieux at the deadline. Giroux is better then Hayes. Thinking a 1st plus maybe a roster player or an a prospect.

Rangers are waiting on Hertl/Sharks to resolve itself. If he’s available he’s the guy. Figure out the contract in the summer when you can make moves
