Idk if he’s eligible for an extension, but a good way for Drury to manage the future cap would be to offer Chytil a new deal. 3/4 years 3.5 mil AAV. Chytil gets a nice bump, stability and a vote of confidence from the organization. We lock in a good, young NHL center on a team that has no center depth whatsoever. Even helps the Copp decision knowing you could have Mika-Copp-Chytil-Goodrow locked in through this window.
He's eligible as soon as the clock starts on the new season. Usually it's July 1st, but I think it's the 13th this year. That's when free agency starts, so I assume that's also when the new league year starts. The Rangers can negotiate with him now and officially sign it next month.

Vatrano, or someone like him, will inevitably be back at the deadline once we try to jam 3 young and unestablished players up in the lineup and it doesn't work.

Dach is slow, can't win face-offs, and terrible at puck possession. He's exactly what we need. Quick, let's trade Kakko for him!!

:help:

Some food for thought / napkin math for people.

Betmann announced the conservative estimates for revenue this season were 5.2B, that number coinciding wtih the fact that the cap is set at the 4.8B number, should mean that next year is likely the last flat cap year.

Everyone ignoring the fact that strome played the last 30 or so games with a pretty debilitating injury while celebrating Lindgren for his toughness is about what you'd expect from this fan base. He will likely be the best option we'll find in that price range, and if Chytil is really able to play top 6 mins then it will happen, i don't see it, he looked alright playing sheltered mins this playoffs but he lacks vision and if he has to play against the Hedman's, Letang's,Cirelli's, Staals, Malkin, Crosbys of the world you will be sorely disappointed.
Well we already know Strome can’t do that either. I’m not just talking about this year either. There’s a large body of work to tell me how Strome is a pretty good offensive perimeter player with 0 defensive instincts to speak of.

When games get tight, he disappears

At least chytil may continue to improve

I thought Chytil looked like a poor man's Roope Hintz out there in the the playoffs. He might not have Roope's hands but he has wheels and he looks to finish plays. Chytil is breaking out at the same age Roope did too 22/23 and doing it the same way, rely on their skating and shooting more.

Lol, from a Torts player no less.

Dubinsky had a bad falling out in Columbus. They had issues in NY. Torts goes to Columbus. Torts and Dubinsky formed a truce. The ending was bad. I read an article in The Athletic in Aaron Portzline concerning Torts and Columbus. Torts will do a good job in Philly. It will take a couple of years to clear out the guys who don't fit and he will be gone within four years.

Bettman said 2-3 years. I saw the press conference on The NHL Network before game one.

As far as the cap for 23-24, don't be surprised if Goodrow is off the team one way or another. the Rangers actually get a small cap credit the first two years if they bought him out after next season. I don't anticipate that would happen but it's a possibility. When push comes to shove paying almost 4M for a 4th line forward when you are in a cap crunch becomes an issue.

Panarin needs to grow up and figure out how to play the right side without sulking.
Kreider - Zibby - Kakko
Laffy - Chytil - Panarin
Blais - Goodrow - Kravtsov
Reaves - _____ - ______
Our lineup issues would be completely resolved if Bread could just play on the RW

not a shot we buy him out and take that penalty for 8 years

Very few players actually 'like' playing for Tortorella.

The question is whether he can make the team better by brute force for a few years before the players get fed up.

John has some personality and temperament issues that have been documented. The 'suck it up' mentality doesn't do as well with this new generation.

I'm a big fan of Torts hockey stylistically, but his personality is the issue.

The penalty would only be 6 years in actuality, like I said for the 1st two years there's a cap credit. But I think they'd look to trade him before considering that absolutely.

Torts is like a suicide pill. He’ll chase bad and good personnel out alike. There’s a better way to achieve your short term goals and not sacrifice long term viability.

Anyone putting forth a proposal that keeps Copp needs to explain what they’ll do in 2023-2024. It just doesn’t work with the Laf and Miller contracts coming up. It’s going to be a 10M+ increase with those two. Signing Copp is so short-sighted and pretty much impossible unless you’re moving Lindgren + trading multiple kids in the lineup like Kakko and Chytil.

The 2C answer needs to be a hockey trade for a lower cost kid with upside.

There’s the personality issues, but his coaching is also stale and unimaginative. It isn’t winning hockey anymore.

Vatrano is the only UFA I really want back. Copp can come back if it’s no longer than 4 years, his injury history is ugly. Motte will want too much. Braun I would like back but I don’t know how he holds up for another full season. He’s still great defensively but the legs aren’t there, would be a good 7D option but not as a regular imo. Rooney is the most average 4C in the league, I wouldn’t mind him back because he’s established in the room but I’d rather let a Hartford kid get a shot. Gettinger/Richards/even Khodorenko

This narrative needs to die somewhere. Goodrow is NOT a 4th line player.
