Also, you 100% sign Copp. Ideally similar to the Danault contract. I don’t think NYR brass or fans know/understand how good he is defensively yet. He was Winnipeg’s #1 shutdown guy and is solid on faceoffs. Might be one of the most versatile guys in the league as well, towards the end of his contract we can utilize him as an elite 3C

Yea Copp is a must Imo too
Motte and Rooney only at the right price
Kreider , Zib , Laf
Panarin , Copp, Kakko
Goodrow , Chytil , Blais
Motte , Rooney , Reaves , Hunt , Brodzinski
Also ok w a cheap faceoff C

Strome and Vatrano will make too much

Call up Cuylee and Othmaan

Othmann is OHL or NHL. So OHL so he can get meaningful minutes still. No need to rush him. Cuylle first callup.

No to Rooney no matter the price. Kravtsov on roster for his cheap ELC and to have money for Motte.

we need puck movement. You will never outskate the puck.

Speed is great for forecheck and loose pucks but the problem usually starts getting the puck out of our zone and through the NZ.

You can win with puck movement and our speed
The thing is the Rangers offense (and strategy for getting from their end through the neutral zone) is based around the stretch pass. And you need speed to get to the dump in from the stretch pass.

I agree the puck movement would work if they actually skated it up with support through the neutral zone with give and goes.

I can’t fathom that it’s 2022 and we’re using the stretch pass as our offensive strategy. It’s like we have the offensive firepower of a Lamborghini and use it like a Toyota Sienna.

I am not saying that there aren’t room for improvement (or that it is), but what is like Carolina doing?

They put the puck on a stick of their own guys outside their own blueline but on the defensive side of the redline and just goes on a rush from their. It’s amazing how consistent they are with connecting with two passes in a row with that play and not giving it up. The pass up ice from a D and then the next to someone else heading up ice. If we get the puck up ice 66% of the time they get it up ice 80% of the time.

I am struggling a bit to understand how a team like Carolina makes that work. With how teams like Tampa play, I recognize how the system is implemented and what you must do to make it work. This style is a bit foreign to me.

Another thing that should be mentioned is that Carolina should be labeled as a team that plays a man-man D. This is a scale for all teams, but ever wonder why Carolina is picking up our left our Ds and or guys with a history from Detroit? Not many teams play that aggressive with a man-man D anymore but they do. Tampa does it. Chicago does it. Detroit does it. Colorado does it. But it’s not black and white. It’s a scale thing. In any event — that are helping Carolina out so much in their transition play. They have Aho and Trochek who are good at transporting the puck. But in all situations when they win pucks they have speed under their skates. This is a big difference when comparing us to them. There is no doubt that playing more man-man is a down side defensively, but the big positive is that once you win the puck, you are much more likely to have speed under your skates and that is a bitch to play against as an attacking team. Carolina makes up for the defensive side by having 3 forwards who are really loyal defensively.

Ultimately, I am not sure if I see much gains to be made — in the transition play — with the Xs and Os. The league is pretty conform and what kills is speed at center ice that can put on the jets really fast.

So if the Rangers lose either tonight or Monday (sigh) it looks like they are locked in at #25. I’d definitely consider moving #25 and Nils Lundkvist to Vancouver for. #15.

What's available at #15 in the draft that we are moving Nils to move up 10 spots.

It took a 2nd to ditch Staal. What do we need to attach to Nemeth to get him off the team in the summer? We lost a lot of picks during TDL

Most likely a later round pick. He is nowhere near as bad as Staal was when we moved him. Also the contract length and cap hit is much shorter and less than what Staal was.

Ah crap thought I heard that about Othmaan
10 games though right ?

Kravtsov I hope but I’m not shocked if he’s gone for a 2nd like Andersson

Rooney I get it . I wouldn’t give him much
You won’t give him anything lol

I think they can move Nemeth and Georgiev to Buffalo or AZ for a late pick

I’d rather roll the dice at #25 and try to trade Nils in a prospect for prospect swap. I’m afraid his value around the league is severely diminished though.

I'm not usually buyout-bullish but 1 million a year for 4 years might as well be nothing.

Why? Im so tired of having dead money on the cap and Nemeth isnt an albotross contract that NEEDS to be moved. I know people will say "but its only 1m per season" Thats still 1 mill added on to all the other dead money and it adds up. That 1m per year could be the difference in keeping Motte, Resigining Miller, Laffy, and so on. Just not interested. '

He can and will be traded for peanuts like a 7th rounder, or we will add a late round pick to him to move him. This is not the Staal situation either. Nemeth can still play and had a bad year, only 2 years left on his deal at 2.5m per. Staal i believe had 4 years left and 6m per and his play was alot worse than Nemeth this year.

Players are moveable. Lets stop with the deadcap space please.

Why would we do that?

From looking at mock drafts, im guessing its to try to get Conner Geekie?

Panarin's defensive zone play and backchecking has suffered due to what seems to be a nagging lower body injury

But, his powerplay, offensive zone possession and maneuvering to extend players, and his breakout passing have all been a huge part of what has helped our offense deliver when needed.

Dude is still uber talented, and he is being keyed in on every time he is out there.

He is also very clearly avoiding significant contact so as to not aggravate anything.
He made a brilliant defensive play to stop a 2 on 1 last game.

24th pick, actually. We were 26th based on standings, with both Tampa and Edmonton picking before us. If we lose, they will both pick after us by virtue of making it to the conference finals. That pushes us up to pick 24.

That said, I wouldn't trade Lundkvist just to move up. That would be selling low. And who are we taking at 15 that is so much better than players we can get at 24?

If and when Lundkvist is traded, it should be for a center prospect of similar value.

Nils Lundkvist to the Dallas Stars for Mavrik Bourque. The Stars have to re-sign Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger who are both group II free agents with no arbitration rights. The Stars are looking to extend Roope Hintz this summer who is one year from being a group II free agent with arbitration rights. John Klingberg is a free agent and the Stars are not re-signing him. Jim Nill needs a RD. The Stars are facing a cap crunch.

2. Jason Robertson, LW, Dallas Stars

Robertson has scored 125 points in his first 128 NHL games, including a 41-goal season this year. His 0.97 point per game average through his entry-level contract puts him in elite company. That rate is better than the entry-level scoring averages posted by Leon Draisaitl, Mitch Marner, Brayden Point, Sebastian Aho, Mathew Barzal or Elias Pettersson, to name a few of the league’s recent young stars who excelled in their ELCs. If the Stars were to bridge Robertson, he would be an easy candidate to sign the highest bridge deal ever, exceeding the three-year, $7.35 million per year Pettersson deal. However, I see the Stars wanting to cement their franchise player for as long as possible, and I think both sides can look at the deals of Kirill Kaprizov (5 years, $9 million per year) or Mikko Rantanen (6 years, $9.25 million per year) as solid comparables. With the absence of state income taxes, the Stars will have an advantage in how far their dollars will stretch for Robertson, making me think they can get Robertson at Rantanen’s AAV, but for more years. My projection: 8 years, $9.25M per year

Robertson's contract will take up at least 1/2 of their available cap space. Extending Oettinger long-term will not be cheap. What did Igor Shesterkin get and what did Thatcher Demko get? Oettinger is looking at least $5M in a 4-5 year deal.

The Stars are paying a fortune to Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Miro Heiskanen. $27.8M combined. Robertson will be another big ticket. Hintz will be a big ticket starting in 23-24. Another $8.5-$9M for Hintz. Oettinger at $5M. Esa Lindell at $5.8M. Maybe Joe Pavelski wants to keep playing after next season.

Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek were discussing the Stars cap situation for this summer. Jeffy said the Stars might have to trade a player to make the money work for this summer. Denis Gurianov is a group II this summer with arbitration rights. His QO is $2.9M. Gurianov was really good/great in the bubble two years ago. He has struggled to reach his full potential. He was a healthy scratch in the Calgary series and during the season. That guy has so much talent and ability. Gurianov would be a very good fit on the Rangers if they had the cap space which they don't.

Bourque would be a good fit for the Rangers. He can start the season in the AHL His play will determine what happens to him after that. Can the Rangers afford Filip Chytil after next season? Lundkvist gives the Stars an entry level option to replace Klingberg. There is only much money to go around.

that's exactly the type of deal we're looking for.

We dont need wingers or defensemen. It's either a prospect swap or move him at the draft for someone you like
