Nils Lundkvist to the Dallas Stars for Mavrik Bourque. The Stars have to re-sign Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger who are both group II free agents with no arbitration rights. The Stars are looking to extend Roope Hintz this summer who is one year from being a group II free agent with arbitration rights. John Klingberg is a free agent and the Stars are not re-signing him. Jim Nill needs a RD. The Stars are facing a cap crunch.

Robertson's contract will take up at least 1/2 of their available cap space. Extending Oettinger long-term will not be cheap. What did Igor Shesterkin get and what did Thatcher Demko get? Oettinger is looking at least $5M in a 4-5 year deal.

The Stars are paying a fortune to Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Miro Heiskanen. $27.8M combined. Robertson will be another big ticket. Hintz will be a big ticket starting in 23-24. Another $8.5-$9M for Hintz. Oettinger at $5M. Esa Lindell at $5.8M. Maybe Joe Pavelski wants to keep playing after next season.

Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek were discussing the Stars cap situation for this summer. Jeffy said the Stars might have to trade a player to make the money work for this summer. Denis Gurianov is a group II this summer with arbitration rights. His QO is $2.9M. Gurianov was really good/great in the bubble two years ago. He has struggled to reach his full potential. He was a healthy scratch in the Calgary series and during the season. That guy has so much talent and ability. Gurianov would be a very good fit on the Rangers if they had the cap space which they don't.

Bourque would be a good fit for the Rangers. He can start the season in the AHL His play will determine what happens to him after that. Can the Rangers afford Filip Chytil after next season? Lundkvist gives the Stars an entry level option to replace Klingberg. There is only much money to go around.

Bourque is a great fit for us. There are no guarantees, but look at how we solved the hole at RD/PPQB, it was TDA, Fox, Lundkvist, Keane, Pionk and a few others. They panned out way better than anyone could hope for, but that is the approach we must have at C. We did invest in Henriksson who fits the mold. But there should be 3-4 more guys, Hrivik is a perfect example. Put him with Panarin…

Copp will be resigned. It will be similar to the deals we have seen recently like Danualt and Rust. Strome will walk and sign somewhere for a good deal. He will play well, but his time here is done. Drury clearly has a type and strome is not that. If Panarin doesn't like that, he can speak with Drury as well.

f***ing Drury. Guy built a good playoff team. Even I can’t deny it.

Bodes well for the future. Nemeth was a stinker, hopefully they learn from it.

What do we do, buy him out vs sending him to HFD? If we BO, we save 500k on the cap next year and the year after, but after that we save 1m per for two years with the HFD alternative.

The best alternative is prolly to send him to HFD next year and then BO him next summer.

I think the chances are very high that Florida moves this contract this summer one way or the other

Buy-out?

I’ve heard some crazy things. Would rule out the contract being declared null and void by FLA like Kane’s.

Zito didnt sign Bobrovsky. He doesn’t have any allegiance. They’ll do what they have to do to move him. Retention. Attaching picks. Whatever.

Man, it's the flashes like last night that really drive you crazy when thinking about Chytil and you just KNOW he's going to put it all together as soon as you trade him someplace else.

Copp is a must sign.

You can add Statsny on top of it but it’s not one or the other.

Letting Copp walk would be a catastrophic mistake

They beat Carolina in game 7, Copp retention is an absolute must.

I think its a must either way, but the package given up if we get to Conf. Finals, to me, means we have to retain that player beyond this post season

I mean it really depends on copp. If he wants 6-7m then no. We walk away.
We can’t do that without being hamstrung in long term cap.

HNIC had a section on Copp last night and it was reported he’s looking for a deal in the Hyman/Danault range

So one would assume 5.5-6 million a year at 6/7 years

39 hours and an emergency c-section later, the roster has grown.

Sign Copp 6 x $5.2M
Sign Kakko 3 x $2.1M
Sign Motte 4 x $2M
Sign Blais 2 x $1.5M
Sign Kravtsov 1 x $1M
Get rid of Nemeth, whatever the cost.
Have enough space to sign a 7D

2023 Offseason is when at least one of Kreider, Trouba and/or Panarin have to get moved. Also gain back the $3.4M cap space from the Girardi, ADA and Shattenkirk buyouts.... RHD have been costly

Still not enough depth duhmetre.

We need to find a more spare forwards better than McKegg and spare defensemen better than Tinordi.

We'll still have Brodz, Trivigno and Rydahl... and potentially Cuylle and Othmann in the A.

We still have Robertson in the A. I didn't list it but we need another #7D.. Looking at a player like B.Smith for 800k...
