Give Chytil a shot at 2C for the kid line and for 3C either stay put with Goodrow or go out and get either Roy or Statsny for different reasons. Everyone else is either too expensive or doesn’t move the needle.

If you’re going to advocate for something, advocate with a complete solution.

Math and logic does not equate to anxiety.
Yeah it's not like the Rangers aren't thinking about this right now and a ton of other teams continually navigate near the cap ceiling every year and ice a competitive roster. There are always answers and solutions. This is what GM's get paid to do. Maybe it's a simple as trading Trouba after next season which I think is very possible. Maybe they use a buyout option. It's not ideal but it's just another tool GM's have at their disposal. Worrying about the cap a year from now is a waste of time. I'm sure Drury and the rest of the brass have a pretty good understanding of what lies ahead and are well equipped to get creative if needed.

I looked this guy up and the first elite prospects link that came up was this guy:

Who is this guy? Thornton Mellon?

Here's the real link:

Drury vocally unhappy with Panarin’s playoff
If Drury trades for a 2C he thinks Chytil is a prime target in the trade
Strome the leader to stick around of all the UFA’s
Copp less likely to shave money off a deal
If Motte wants over 2 and Vatrano wants 3, both gone
Would take anything for Gauthier and looking for a mid round pick for Geo

You don't get a Caufield for a Chytil. No way. You want Caufield, MTL will want Laf.
Also, recall that Caufield was dead and buried under that horrible coach Ducharme. Gorton was smart and brought in MSL specifically to give life to the youngsters and revive Caufield. There's a lesson here.

Geeze. As far as Motte goes, id prefer over 2 to flatten the deal out. Hes the type of guy you want in the playoffs for the next few years when the windows open to take a run at it. I could see keeping Vatrano on a shorter deal, but for Motte, thats puzzling to me.

I'd do Motte for 3 or even 4 years at a lower, cost controlled number. He made 975. Bump him up to 1.25 or something, nothing crazy and spread it out. For the energy he provides on the bottom lines and PK, thats a bargain. Hes one of the best in the league at it and the deal would reach the age of 30 or 31. Its all good there

That’s the thing… other teams usually have obvious options and solutions. We are crazy strapped with NMCs. There is a 0% Trouba agrees to a trade next offseason. He’s on a true competitor, in the city he wanted to be in, and is wife is building a medical career in New York. He is unmovable until 2024 summer.

At this point, let both Strome and Copp go.

Stop catering to Panarin.

Want no part of J.T. Miller nor Stastny. As each day goes by, the more content I am that they just try to get Motte and/or Vatrano at really good numbers and let Strome and Copp walk. Promote the Chytil line and see if a full season of Blais and Krav can help. Sign Carpenter, Blackwell or Cousins and Wedgewood, Kinkaid or Lindgren.

Hell, even keep Nemeth for the season as the 7th and trade him next offseason. At that point you might even get something back for him instead of have to pay to get rid of him.

Might take a slight step back, but our cap will look good and we will be able to sign everybody next offseason fairly easily. And the step back might not even be a sure thing. Laf, Chytil, Kakko, and Miller all got better. Sometimes you should just keep it simple.

Many top players today have NMC's. It's not just the Rangers. So maybe they trade Trouba the next year, maybe they use a buyout on him or somebody else. After next year they have no dead cap space. They have options.

As far as Motte and Vatrano that's the right call. I think the smart thing is probably to let Motte walk regardless. Really can't afford to be paying much for 4th liners at this point.

The PIT series was winnable in 5. Home ice, 2 & 3rd string backups. Couldn’t find a way to win game 1 when they played well. Slow start in Game 3 that they still could’ve won without a stinker from Georgiev. They were the better team the majority of that series. Even the Carolina series would’ve been over in 6 if they win game 1 which they dominated until the last 5.

The experience gained this season will help in future runs.
Didn't help that Nemeth quite literally gave games away and some f***ed up black magic from another dimension was active on every Pittsburgh goal game 3, lol

I think they will learn. They have the talent to close series early especially against lesser teams (Pittsburgh was not a lesser team before anyone jumps on that). They did not have that in the past which is why they took some absolute shit teams to game 7s (Ottawa in 12, Washington in 12, Philadelphia in 14, Washington in 15).

Get ready for a board meltdown if this happens.

I wasn't sure where to put this question. What site do you guys watch with live updates during the 1st day of free agency? I've never been able to get one I really liked. Thanks!

The two bold points are conflicting in my opinion. If he was truly unhappy with Panarin’s playoff performance (which he should be) then it should be tied to the performance (or lack thereof) of his line mate Ryan Strome.

Drury being unhappy with Panarin and Strome likeliest to be back seem to be in direct opposition to each other

We're not more strapped with NMC's than most other competitive teams. We just don't love those players who have them.

I agree with this, yet they will still cater to him if they bring in a vet center like Stastny. He'll be stapled to Panarin both 5on5 and PP. It's Strome all over again with a different name.

If they can find someone a little less vet, someone who would actually be in competition with Chytil for that center spot rather than default getting it based on their vet status, it makes more sense.
