Starting to feel like Stastny might be the right answer in terms of a free agent

I think there's more than one right answer to the center conundrum, depending on how Drury wants to use his available cap space and tradeable assets. Stastny is definitely on the list of guys who would help.

Lundkvist for a center or LHD. The Rangers don't need wingers. Panarin is signed for 4 more seasons. Kreider is signed for 5 more seasons but his NMC expires in 2 years and most of the money will paid off after the the 4th year. The Rangers have Lafreniere, Kakko and Kravtsov. Assuming Kravtsov isn't traded which isn't happening. He would have been traded by now if some team made a good offer. Nothing is changing now. Kravtsov's waiver exemption is over. He will be on the team. The Rangers have Othmann waiting in the wings.

The Rangers don't need another RHD. Trouba will be here for another two seasons. At least two seasons. Fox. Schneider.

LHD. Can the Rangers trade for a young LHD who can compete for a spot on the Rangers this season or play in the AHL this season? Lindgren is signed for two seasons. He has one more season after this contract before group III. The Rangers don't have anyone to replace Lindgren. The Rangers have a bigger cap crunch in 2023. If the Rangers wanted to clear money in the summer of 2023 by trading Lindgren, they will need someone to take those minutes.

The Rangers could have traded Lundkvist to Montreal for Lehkonen at the trade deadline but they couldn't afford Lehkonen's next contract. Lehkonen is getting $4M in his next contract. He has been very good for Colorado in the playoffs. Vegas traded Brannstrom to Ottawa for Stone and they signed Stone to an extension.

The Rangers could have traded Lundkivist for a high end rental/expiring contract but they couldn't afford to keep that player.

Drury can't trade Lundkvist for an expensive player because the Rangers don't have the space for the player. The cap will be flat for 22-23 and 23-24. Maybe it goes up starting in 24-25.

As an example. The Rangers could afford JT Miller this season but they can't afford another $8.5M-$9M contract on their books. Miller will get at least 6-7 years at $8.5M-$9M in the summer of 2023.

Drury is in a tough spot. It's not his fault.
If Nils goes for a LHD, I'd look no further than our old friends in Montreal that drafted him.

Lundkvist for Guhle. The latter is a year younger and would look great in this group.

Guhle stock probably higher than Nils right now. and if memory serves Gorton was very high on Guhle as well

It’s a very small pool if candidates that make sense

Stastny signed a big contract for the Blues several years ago and then did f*** all until they managed to trade their way out of it. Maybe he’s matured since then, but that’s not the type of person I want on this team.

I get that some people think it would be hard to get all of the young players the ice time they need to develop, I don't think it's an issue if they don't sign Copp or Strome. They can put Mika, Panarin and Krieder together. Kid line as second line. Kravtsov on third to start. Barring a ton of time spent in the Box, you could give the top two lines around 18 mins each, including power play time, third line around 15 and that leaves around 9 for the 4th. with whatever variances for who is carrying play. Again depending on pk time. I don't see a need to trade Kakko to get them all time. Cuylle and Othman will only get cups of coffee unless they dominate. If they acquire another NHL ready center, established or young, they can go third line with Krav and Blais. If Kakko doesnt make his mark by the TDL I can see them moving him, but unless they get back similar upside it will still likely be a big mistake.

I mean look what he has done since then though. Should fit into what the Rangers can afford too, would not be a long term deal. If they can get him for around what he was on last year that’s a big win.

Would this work Kakko Chytil Nemeth Lundkvist to Hawks
DeBrincat Kirby Dach Colton Dach to NYR
Your proposals are all bad and you should stop

I think we should get rid of Trouba he is too slow and dumb. He cost us game 3 against Tampa by taking 3 stupid penalties. And pathetically slow backcheck on Stamkos’s go ahead goal in game 6
Very short sighted. You overlook the strong season he had and fact he is a leader on this team. You also over look the fact that he may have single handedly changed the entire post season with his physical game against Pittsburgh or did you forget? Chances are good you would not be complaining about his lapse against TB because without his play we probably don't get to a game 6 in the conference finals.

Any suggested lineups for next season with a question mark for the 2nd or 3rd center positions is kind of useless. You make FC your number 2 center going into camp you better have a good 3 center on this team in case. Not completely sold on FC even though he had a good playoff run. There are still some things lacking like ice vision and defensive coverage. I mean he was also a 35% face off guy in the post season as well. Heck even Strome was over 42%.

CARRYOVER BONUS OVERAGES -
PROJECTED CAP HIT: $77,928,969
SALARY CAP: $82,500,000
PROJECTED CAP SPACE: $4,571,031

The 3C Question?? However Here Still Remains - Be it Tyler Johnsson (uggghhh - via trade - $$ retained), Paul Stastny (UFA), Johan Larsson (UFA), a younger player (traded for Nils+)… or something else?
Pass on Grant and Kassian. Maybe just Kassian if its 1x1. I think Dvorak fits perfectly into that 3rd line center spot with this lineup and our cap would be great.

Kreider-Z-Panarin (Or flip the wings if you want)
Laf-Chytil-Kakko
Blais-Dvorak-Krav
Motte-Goodrow-Reaves/Hunt (Rydahl and Brod as depth)

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Jones-Schneider
Braun/Tinordi

Igor
Wedgewood/Kinkaid/Lindgren

That team works cap wise this year and going forward. Even space to accrue a good amount of room at the deadline if they want to add again.

Trouba's physical play changed the entire course of the series against the Pens, when no one else brought their physical game and Lindgren/Goodrow were out. He blasted Domi, and destroyed Jarvis in game 7 taking out their first line performer. How can you overlook this? yet some fans on here do and will continue to.

Trouba is a risk/reward player. He can bring a physicality that few players in hockey can. This is one of the reasons the NYR signed him. He does make costly errors at times. He was awful in game 3 of the ECF and he did cost us that game with his gaffe on the 4m minor.

Officiating was changing the series at that point anyway.

It would work for us, but I see zero chance Hawks doing this. Nemeth has negative value and DeBrincat + Kirby Dach are by far the best pieces of the trade.

Igor is too wholesome 😭 remember when he said the first game that the crowd was chanting"Igor" he had to hold back tears?

Just an idea. I know Nemeth has negative value. Which is why I added Lundkvist. DeBrincat would add something this team lacks, another shoot first mentality.

Rangers do need more speed up front that actually knows how to use their speed. Not Julien Gauthier or the Rico Fata of the world.

How about this 1 for 1 trade.

Rangers trade D Matthew Robertson to Predators for C Zachary L’Heureux

😍
I wish he started doing more interviews in English, his English is a lot better than what I think most people would've assumed. Quite the sense of humor too, which is difficult for someone who speaks English as a second language. He's probably hilarious in Russian

Reporter: "Who was your favorite goalie growing up?"

Less than 1 second later: "Henrik Lundqvist"

Messier line: Kreider - Zib - Reilly Smith
Gilbert line: Panarin - Gourde - TyJo
Hadfield line: Laf - Chytil - Kakko
Ratelle line: Motte - Goodrow - Reaves/Blais

Trouba isn't going anywhere for 2 years minimum, so it would be best for us fans to appreciate his strengths rather than dwell on his weaknesses. We'll be happier for it.

What Gallant needs to do is limit his time with the puck on his stick. Miller should be the puck mover on that pair, and replace Trouba on PP2.
This is the right answer. The unfortunate thing with Trouba isn’t his play, it’s his contract. They signed him to be a #1, and he’s now a #3/4. We need someone like Trouba on the team but it’d be much more palatable for everyone if he was being paid like other physical, stay at home types.

NYR want someone who is a better skater at the center position.
Yeah, Stastny has actual cement bricks for feet, and if these playoffs have shown us anything, it's that constant speed and pressure is the hallmark of the more successful teams. Plus, didn't the entire WPG hate Stastny by the end of the year?

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him in if they can't keep Copp, but I don't think it'll really work out well for him here.
