They really really want to get Binnington out of there.
Cant argue with that - he’s such a headache and not reliable in net

Schneider and Nemeth for Newhook

Nils
and rights to Geo for Kailer Yamamoto

Chytil
for Nic Roy

Resign Braun

Sign Jordie Benn (or any LD vet)

Kreider-Ziba-Kravy
Laf-Newhook-Kakko
Panarin-Yamamoto-Roy
Reeves-Goodrow-Blais
Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Benn-Braun
Shesty

Naturally, the ‘3rd line’ is the match-up line.
Panarin and Yamamoto aren’t match up line players imo and Newhook would be way over his head at 2C

Panarin-Strome-Blackwell matched up better against the top lines around us than Kreider and Ziba did. Yamamoto is small, but 99% of the time a center isn’t involved in physical battles, which is why guys like Cirelli, Gourde, TyJo and co have done such a good job at it for Tampa. Yamamoto is a really hard working player, he has played a lot of center in his career. Don’t know if he is up for the task, but I think it’s among guys like that we should look.

On Newhook, don’t underestimate his value. It’s not an easy league to play in for kids and he has a thick depth chart ahead of him in Colorado, it’s not easy to bump Kaddish or Mackinnon. Don’t think Sakic is down on him.

So much wrong with this post. And it starts with referencing the Panarin-Strome-Blackwell line. Like please don’t reference that combo as being a better matchup line than like…anyone. That is vomit worthy.

Doubling down stating the center position isn’t involved in physical battles (completely untrue) and then referencing guys like Cirelli and Gourde is also misplaced. Those guys are willing to go to the physical areas, get their hands dirty. Even Tyler Johnson was to a degree. Yamamoto is not that player. Stay the f*** away from him. Far away.

I had to step away for a few days (oh the pain of getting eliminated )to do a postmortem.

I think it was very important to get this playoff experience for not just the kids, but the vet, too. Not to mention for the organization and fans after a few rough years of the rebuild. I have no problem giving up that first round pick. This experience was invaluable if they learn from it.

Mika - I thought he had a rough start against Crosby, but proved to be a top line center in the playoffs.

CK - He had some key goals, but at the same time, he could be a bigger presence in the game. Finds himself puck-watching at times. Maybe it's a lapse of focus at times. Overall a solid player in the playoffs, but leaves you wanting for more.

Vatrano - The guy can shoot and is fast. Terrible along the boards though. Hurt us defensively in our own zone. He was a great addition, but not someone that you want on the top line, nor can we afford him going forwards. Thanks for your contribution Frank the Tank.

Panarin - Ugh. Great goal against Pitt, but he played a terrible perimeter game throughout the playoffs. Our most disappointing player imo. Defensively a disaster in his zone except for maybe the last game where he seemed to skate harder in the zone. Turnover-machine in the offensive zone. He was probably the most alarming player going-forward. As great as he was in the regular season, let's hope this playoff performance was an aberration more than something to expect going forward because with his contract, he's going nowhere.

Strome - His offensive contributions were minimal. He is terrible defensively especially when combined on Panarin's line. The two of them don't show any compete level defensively and their line was often hemmed in their zone. He needs to be gone. I don't want him re-signed at all because it's going to be very hard to win with such a defensively deficient second line.

Copp - I'm not sure why he wasn't used enough at center. I personally think he is a big upgrade over Strome, but I'm not sure he is someone we want as our second line center either. We can't afford him financially on the wing or in any other role other than center. Signing him would hurt our cap in 2024. I'm leaning towards door #3. Either bite bullet with Chytil who really isn't a second line center either, but roll with it for the cap savings looking towards 2024. Or try to trade for a two-way cost controlled young center (harder to do than to say).

Chytil - Great to see him step up in the playoffs. Physically he has the skills. Imo, he doesn't have the vision or hockey IQ to be a great center, but you had to like his game as our third line center these playoffs probably because he outperformed expectations.

Laf - Omg, what a relief to see him step up his game in the playoffs. His compete level was through the roof and his physical game was top notch. I think he will take another step up and is probably a future captain. I loveddddd his game in the playoffs. Needs to replace Strome on the pp next season.

KK - This is a tough one. Great along the boards and defensively responsible. Would often back-check, too. So disappointing offensively though. He has very good vision as a passer. Not too impressed with his shot and maybe neither is he since he seems to lack confidence. Still, he's very young and still has time to develop his offense, but his ceiling is lowering by the say. It would be nice if he worked on his skating.

Motte - Great skater and penalty killer. Willing checker. Not much offense. Perfect fourth-liner. Would love to have him back if the price was right.

Goodrow - Good player, but I don't think he is worth his contract. It is what it is.

Reaves - He can play in small doses. Anything more and he gets exposed because he is too slow. Someone tell Gallant. Sure, no one wants to fight him, but bfd. He doesn't deter anything. As a former hockey enforcer myself, I will be the first one to say that he may win his few fights, but it doesn't do a damn thing to stop anyone else from doing something on the ice. He has his value in the locker room and in occasional physical games. He shouldn't be playing a regular role in the playoffs.

Rooney - GTFO. He was ok on a rebuilding team as a somewhat hard-nosed 4th line center, but he should have no role on a playoff team.

Fox - He didn't look the same since his injury. He had some incredible moments in the playoffs, but also some bad ones. Overall, a great player that we are lucky to have.

KAM - What a young f******* beast in the making. He doesn't have a ton of experience at the position, but he's already really good. His ceiling is through the roof. We are starting to see some physicality come through at times. He is only going to get better. Probably way better.

Lindgren - Another beast. What a warrior. Sometimes he loses his positioning out there, but he's our heart and soul on defense. Let's hope he physically doesn't break down. He deserves a Purple Heart medal.

Trouba - Ugh. tough one. He giveth and he taketh. Moments of glory mixed in with moments of blunders. Overall, a huge physical presence that this defense desperately needs. For the most part, a very good playoff performance sans a few games.

Schneider - He's hard to grade because he is so young. He gets lost at times, but he has great moments, too. He's got potential, but we will need him to be me more physical as he matures. He was put in a really tough spot this year. Could have used more seasoning, but got a trial by fire.

Braun - A good cheap addition. A bit slow out there, but definitely an upgrade over terrible Nemeth. Braun won't be back unless it's a cheap 6th-7th man vet role.

Shesty- What a beast. We've been spoiled in net. Had a few shaky moments here and there, but mostly a 99% of the time he is a wall. Seemed to get rattled a couple of times (e.g Pitt series). His health will always be his biggest concern.

Geo - bye buddy

Gallant - it seems like the players love to play for him. Great regular season. Seems to have a steady presence and fights for his guys when needed. Far from perfect though. His reliance on his guys like Reaves is highly questionable. Lack of in-game matching and strategy is a weakness. Benching KK was unforgivable especially considering the lack in communication about the benching.

Drury - The Buch trade was so disappointing because of the return although we can see why he had to do it (wouldn't re-sign Buch as second line center is our priority). The Nemeth deal was awful, but the trade deadline deals were a HR. I think he calmed down the fan panic after his first 2 moves. Now his job gets harder navigating the next 2 years of the cap while trying to not only get back to the Finals, but to also try to make the team better.
Dead on perfect analysis. We need you to run Hartford.

Capitals are losing Backstrom all year. Wilson is missing the first half of the season. They were a bubble team with those guys, what are they now?

Boston has countless injuries to begin the year. A new coach, which might be David Quinn, and Bergeron still needs to decide if he will play.

Pittsburgh's core is breaking up. I'm not sure Letang stays. Maybe Malkin does. He wants to sign a deal that lines up with Crosby's expiration. New owners also bring in a new mindset.

Tampa has to make moves. Losing Palat for them would be a huge issue. Already over the cap. Where are the replacements? No real futures to add via trade.

Florida gave up all their futures for this year. They don't have money to add. Rumors of them trying to trade Bob at 50%. Maybe all they need is a real coach, but this has been their story for about 5 years now.

Carolina, Toronto, and the Rangers are the 3 teams we know aren't really losing anything or have the ability to add or promote from within. All the other 5 playoff teams, and teams like the Islanders and Flyers (basing on what they said) are going to be desperate to make moves.

Drury needs to read the room and be patient. He had his plan last summer and stuck to it. The plan should be to remain patient. Promote from within, assess, and make deadline moves to fill in the holes.

Shesty is a stud. imo, if he just slightly improves on his rebound control and is less of a risk taker when it comes to coming out of the crease to play the puck, he's the best goalie without any argument.

He has great rebound control...what he doesn't have is a defensive group to get the puck out before another scoring chance comes.

They need to move these RFAs they don’t plan to keep before they have to qualify them and before the draft. Just pick up 2022 and 2023 picks to make up for the deadline moves.

Sign Kakko. I prefer a longer term deal but it doesn’t look doable.

Identify young Cs other teams may be willing to move (Dach, Newhook, Kupari, Bourque, etc) and looks to move Lundkvist to get them.

Just run with Chytil at 2C and sign a 1 year vet C to anchor the 3C spot. Goodrow at 4C. Bring back Motte or Vatrano if cheaper and short enough deals.

Promote Jones and sign a Vet D to a 1 year deal.

I think I have an idea - we need an affordable, young 2C with a 1C ceiling and be able to obtain this asset cheaply
I’ll respond to these posts until the end of time.

We do not need that.

We need cheap, two way centers that can enable our wingers. This team will live or die on the wing. Unless they make big trades to overhaul the talent distribution.

Another star player at C will not fit on the team given all of the money already and likely to be alotted on the wings.

Some of ya'll just can't help but desire the need to chase after big names.

They don't need Kane, PLD, or what ever other big name might be out there. What they need is to add cost effective players to support the names they already have, further development from their younger guys and for their biggest name to actually show up when it matters (really, Panarin. Kreider disappearing during the Tampa series didn't help either). No addition of an aging (or underperforming) "star" is going to matter if the aforementioned things don't happen.

There are and will be cost effective options available and while I still have my doubts that the FO will actually pursue these names (I have more confidence with this group than I did with any of the previous ones though after they were able to do this at the deadline with Motte and Vatrano.)

Also Husso is likely to get starter money and it'll almost certainly turn into an Ullmark situation. I will laugh if the Devils pay out the ass for him.
Yup, we need bargain bin players who will be able to outperform their cap hit. We have the elite talent already, now we just need to make sure the depth behind them is strong and effective in their roles. We should be targeting play style over states/reputation for sure. Forechecking guys who play with pace. Players who have shown they have wheels and can play good puck support up the ice.

I actually do have confidence in the front office on identifying the right players after the deadline as well. When talking about Motte, Drury said how his pro scouting staff was just relentlessly telling him we have to get Motte is a good sign. Under the radar player, went for cheap and was EXACTLY what we needed for the role.

How about Lundqvist to Montreal for Christian Dvorak? Probably have to unload nemeth to make the cap work.

Yeah, not sure why people aren't all on the same page with this. Not only is that the way we should and have to go, but the blueprint is already there to be a Cup winning team using that formula in Chicago. Panarin is the Kane here. Kane is the most important player on his line and drives it despite being a winger, Panarin is the same thing. We need to find a center who compliments Panarin. You don't need a traditional 2C borderline star level player that some teams build using because we have a superstar winger, top 3 in the league, as the 2LW.
