Trade Kreider for a Top 10 pick, or some sort of package involving it. Get Zegras/Turcotte.

Trade the WPG pick (plus a 3rd or something if the pick ends up being lower/not in the teens) to MIN for Kaprizov, before Fenton stops being bad.

Boom.

If Anaheim trades for him they are flat out stupid. They should be unloading vets not adding. If Edmonton trades for him they should protect the pick. So I would make a deal with Edmonton for the 2020 first with lottery protection. So If the pick comes in top 3, they can defer it to 2021, no protection. I like the idea of kicking the retirn out into the future. No telling what's going to happen. But that's the only way you make a trade for the top pick nowadays. The guy selling can't know it's the top pick when he makes the deal. We will have at had at least 7 firsts in the last three draft and it could be more than that. Spread it out. No harm in being patient.

Imagine if in 2011, the Rangers swung trades of 5OA, 6OA, 24OA, 27OA and 29OA. The board would explode that the future is set. Yet, we have Zibanejad, Strome and Namestnikov today in their prime, we own the rights to Jensen and had Puempel too... and nothing is set.

Stop making trade proposals based on the idea that everyone reaches their ceiling. Some of Kravtsov, Chytil, K'Andre, Lias, Nils, etc will be minor leaguers and most will be very unspectacular, dime-a-dozen NHLers.

If indeed the Rangers are targeting a move up to get one of the centers, I’m thinking the organization has made the determination that Chytil is not a center.
I doubt that determination is set in stone, but Chytil at Center is clearly no longer something that can be relied upon and it is smart to get some more potential Top 6 options there

I also dont think we will be moving up to take a center, maybe a d or a winger but we have a ton of centers or players that can play center, it's the least of our needs.
No sense moving up in the top-10 for a dman imo, unless Byram magically drops which is very unlikely.

Are people willing to take on Lucic to obtain the Oilers 1st?
Don't know if there's any truth to the rumours, but I did read somewhere they were interested in packaging them together.

For those that can'r remember the complete follies of Chia, Lucic has 4 more years @ $6m per

To take on Lucic I'd want at least $2M in retention and the assurance that he's willing to waive his NMC for the expansion draft so we don't have to use a protection slot on him. Now, that's the easy part. The hard part is figuring out what the rest of the deal looks like. If we're in the mid-teens and looking to move up I don't think it's worth it to absorb Lucic alone. If we were moving up from 20 or so with the Jets pick and didn't have to jump through hoops to get into the early teens? Maybe.

I know Oilers fans are under the impression that the 8th overall and Lucic at 50% is fetching them a top-six winger, but that's just not realistic, IMO. I'm also not entirely sure what the plan is with Edmonton. Are they aiming for a quick rebuild? Are they trying to make the playoffs next season? Hard to say.

I think they have to go for the playoffs, they just can't afford to keep wasting McDavid and Draisaitl.
If we hadn't been dumb enough to give Smith a NTC (I'm assuming EDM is on his 'no-trade' list) I think he'd be the perfect player to swap with picks for Lucic and their 1st.

There's also the potential for another round of amnesty buyouts with the upcoming new CBA. Would be interested to know how much chatter there is at owner/President/GM level as it could have an affect on what kind of contracts richer teams are willing to take on short-term

My initial reaction is I don't make the Subban trade. There's just too much value going. Especially when the defense you have is still questionable when Subban is included.

The roster you project features two rookies who would be new to North America playing in the top 6.

But the biggest part is the lack of patience with the process. And as much as I want Hank to win the Cup, that desire does not take priority over the long-term wellness of the organization.
Long term wellness? The team already has arguably the best prospect pool in the NHL not even counting the other picks we have. We need to now build a winning a culture. We have 3 young forwards we haven’t developed in a long long time that aren’t even the legal age to drink. I’m 100% in it, Hanke deserves it.

The team isn’t being built to get Lundqvist a desperate last shot at a cup.

He arguably isn’t even the best starter on the team at this point lol

What does Henke deserve exactly?

They already have.

Trading for Subban would be sooooooo dumb. Just because you have a bunch of prospects doesn't give you free reign to be stupid - We need to figure out what we have/actually develop some top flight players before deciding that we're done with this thing.

IF Hank wants to try and win, hes free to waive his no trade.

They would if they like the center better than the ones they have right now.

Plus Chytil is probably a wing.

Chytil is a kid still in a kids body, too early to write him off as a center. Plus we have Strome, Howden, Anderson, as well Kravtsov and Kappo have shown they can play center as well. Our need isn't at center imo.

Gotta be in it to win it. We need to get our King his ring

You want us to go for it after admitting we have 3 young forwards we haven’t developed?

The idea that we need to go for it one last time while Hanks here needs to be shot in the head and killed.

It’s been 14 months since the rebuild letter went out. Give your head a shake and have some patience.

Strome is not a long term fixture for this team.

Howden and Andersson profile more as 2/3 C tweeners in the now antiquated roadmap for building a team. I like them both as middle sixers, but likely lower in the lineup. Andersson probably moves to wing as well. Kravstov and Kappo are both wingers.

It's not a DIRE need, but again if you have a player whom you like better than the ones you already have, you make the move. That goes for C,W,D but not G.

Well McDavid and Draisaitl are 22 and 23, respectively, so it's not like they're in the twilight of their careers or anything. The risk is one or both of them getting frustrated and demanding a trade. Other than that the Oilers have a little wiggle room in the timeline, and a couple of decent offensive prospects playing in the AHL. They could deal the 8th for immediate help without attaching Lucic to it and maybe be in playoff contention next year with the right coach and a healthy lineup.

There's definitely a chance for buyouts, but I'm not going to pin my hopes on it in a Lucic deal.

The only type of player I'm interested in trading for right now is a young (25 or below) top pairing defenseman.

That's basically Trouba. And yes, im comfortable paying him through his prime from 25 to 33.

And ideally we find a way to rid ourselves of Staal and Smith while doing it. With the exception of Skjei and DeAngelo, the rest of the defensemen who played regular minutes for us this season could disappear from Thanos's snap and I think we'd be alright.

Yeah, I don’t think Edmonton is a landing spot for Kreider.

AZ or Colorado may make sense... I'd say AZ more likely.

I don't see it from Edmonton... cant give up that pick to watch Kreider walk. I have a VERY hard time seeing Kreider resign in EDM and they are in a money crunch as is. They know that they aren't winning in 2020 and they lack serious long term depth. They seem incapable of nailing late picks.

Well no team is going to trade away their top prospect on the assumption they will just be at their floor.

Would be huge for us to see Lias take that big step forward next season and solidify that 2C spot. I know he hasn’t proven he can but he’s still so young and raw.

This is a big offseason him.
