Sign cheap ones on 1 year contracts.

Yea then flip the vet ufa but at this team a lot of kids seem to be in the plans to play ?

Got to earn it but upfront

KK, Kravtsov , Chytil , Andersson , Howden , Nieves, Lemieux, Buch

Kreider , Zib , Fast , Names , Strome , Vesey

I think we’re all on the “sign Panarin” train, but 1) it depends on the price (8.5-9 mil AAV is the most I would pay in theory) and 2) we’re still rebuilding. We have to take it slow and not look for quick fixes. I just have a bad feeling about giving Tavares money to Panarin. I don’t know. I had a similar feeling when we signed Shattenkirk. Are these two signings related? No. Is one player entering his prime, while the other one was already exiting his prime? Probably. Is Panarin having a great past few games? Yes. But my gut is telling me we might regret signing him for a ton of money.

But man, that will set off a bunch of dominoes and give us a ton of flexibility. Kakko, Kravtsov (if he’s ready), and Buch are probably all top 6 wingers next year. Kreider will be expendable, and as much as I love him (he gave me the only puck I ever got at a hockey game when he was still my favorite player in the NHL), he will probably have to go. If we get Kakko and Zegras out of that draft, and all it cost us was Kreider, I think you have to do it (if you are almost positive you’re signing Panarin).

No, 'we're' not all on the sign Panarin train. There a quite a few of us who want no part of a high-priced long-term expenditure on a team that has a long way to go before it's near a completed project.

While watching CBJ and Breadman my eyes wander to Duchene. Now with Kakko maybe set our sights to center since our flank has been reinforced.

So the consensus is don’t sign a big UFA and play kids ?

Deal Kreider ? That’s what I’m feeling here lol

The thing that keeps getting in the way for me is Panarin on the PP is at his best in Mika’s spot. If you take Mika out of that half wall spot his goals and points are going to drop for sure. Kakko and Kravtsov both are great on that other side so I don’t even want to move Panarin over there. Power plays are such a big part of the game these days and where star players get their money.

Is Panarin really that great a fit? I keep going back and forth on that.

Lol, 'we're all on the sign Panarin train.' No, we're not. Signing Panarin would be a huge mistake and would quite possibly hold this team back from getting the final piece they need when they are ready to compete in 3-5 years.

I have to say, it's absolutely shocking to me that no one has learned anything from:

Holik
Fleury
Lindros
Gomez
Drury
Redden
Richards
Shattenkirk

and to a lesser extent:

Brassard
Gaborik
Staal
Girardi

When you put it like that, it completely misrepresents what those people actually want.

People like myself and others want to continue the rebuild, because we feel that no matter what happens this off-season, the team is not ready to compete.

Thus it would be better to avoid long-term commitments, continue bringing along our kids, sign some cheap, short-term vets as stop-gaps and add to our already very nice pipeline.

Hopefully we see major steps from a few of our younger guys next year (think: Cytil, Lias, Howden, Hajek, Lindgren, etc.) and KK, Shesty and Kravtsov make great first impacts.

If that's the case, then we can really start looking at supplementing the new core in the following year. Also, this gives guys like Miller, Lundkvist, etc. more time to develop so that hopefully they can look to crack the roster soon after.

The team is just too young to do anything special right now. Also, even if added EK, our D is still horrendous. We need to see more before we go and spend a shitload to build it out. KK is going to have some growing pains, as is Kravtsov.

The process is unfinished and it would be wise for the team to continue its patience and retain their cap flexibility moving forward so that when the core finally reveals itself, we can supplement with FA dollars where necessary.

It’s equally shocking to me that people are still talking about f***ing Bobby Holik in 2019 in reference to anything.

It’s also shocking that people think this rebuild has another 5 years to go.
