What's a realistic price for W Nylander at the draft?
There's some questions about how he'll perform in a less offensively gifted forward group, but the Leafs are going to have to do something cap-wise and he fits our age profile and is established as an NHLer

Rather us offer sheet Mitch Marner.

There's no real point in offer sheeting Marner because the Leafs will just match it and then make sacrifices with the depth of their roster (specifically Johnsson/Kapanen would not be able to be kept long term). Better to offer sheet Kapanen or Johnsson for a 2nd round tender which would be very hard for them to match knowing they need to give Marner a new deal (if they have not done so already).

If I am trading Kreider to Edmonton I want their unprotected 2020 1st. I would take the risk of that pick being outside the top 15 because that is how good the 2020 draft is. 2020 1st, Puljujarvi and a conditional pick on Kreider resigning.

The #2 isn't changing the plan IMO

We as fans tend to see (some of us anyway) a big acceleration, but I don't think Gorts and the front office see that.

I still maintain that 2021 is when we see us really climb altitude
It’s not so much acceleration as a top line winger was not thought to be in the cards via the draft, the thought was a center or d. Now suddenly the rangers have an abundance of top 6 wingers. Guys like skinner go out the window, I wondered for a minute if they would turn away from panarin now if they got kakko. I think Kreider is a 2nd line player on this team once it’s built up. I’d prefer to trade Kreider and then use the money to sign panarin and/or ferland. If Kreider’s gonna eventually be a 2nd line wing here, I feel ferland could provide comparably at less money and a tougher meaner game. Plus I don’t see Kreider taking less than 7million per

I would trade Kreider and a small add for a pick in the 7 to 9 range. I dont see any of those teams doing that unless they are able to extend Kreider before trade completed.

If you come in hot at 12 million per, more than Matthews and Tavares, can/will Toronto match? Hypothetical, of course.

If Marner were to get 12M they would basically have to get rid of Kapanen and Johnsson unless they could somehow find a team that Marleau is willing to go to in which case they still likely can't keep both. But it's not that much of a difference as if he were to get 10-11.

Why are people so willing to give up 4 straight first round picks with an offer sheet? We did that a few years ago and it didn't work out too well for us

To be fair it is a bit different giving them up for a rental compared to a 21 year old superstar. I'm not on board with it but it's not really a comparable situation.

Not a snowball's chance of me giving that up for the guy who signed the fat deal and responded with a 7 goal season. He had 27 points in 54 games. You could probably get that out of Lias next year for 894k instead of almost 7M

They should be talking to Kreider about his intentions right now. If you want to stay, put your name on the paper, and we aren't doing any 8 year deal. I'd offer him a 5 year deal. You want to go for more, then so be it. But if he doesn't sign, I hang the sale sign on him at the draft and make it known I'm taking offers. If you don't get blown away, don't trade him. You still have the deadline. Sakic turned the Duchene table around like a boss. He looked like he missed his window, and really turned it into a best possible scenario, lottery not withstanding.
