Not trying to be overly optimistic but Dallas a real punchers chance to make it to the conference finals. They've been hot recently and their team is healthy.
Shouldn’t have mentioned it.

That's not true. Rangers had 62 points in 63 games at the deadline. They ended up getting 16 points in the remaining 19 games. While not as big of a drop as I think a lot of people expected, they still did perform worse.
Carolina is demanding a first-rounder in return for the rights to Adam Fox, Slap Shots has been told by several parties. But it is very, very early in the process — in which the Hurricanes’ leverage diminishes almost daily, with the Harvard defenseman having the option to hit the open market as a free agent in 2020.
Calgary, tied for second overall with Boston entering Saturday, or the Islanders as the NHL’s biggest surprise, with the Kings, Devils and maybe the Wild as the league’s biggest disappointments.
Though the Jets and Predators, they weren’t quite as anticipated, either, were they?
Cant that Jets pick slide down to 19 if a bunch of things break the Rangers way? Like the Jets lose in the first 2 rounds and 3 teams below them in the standings make it to the conference finals?
Ideal situation Jets lose in round 1, Dallas makes it to the conference finals along with say Carolina and Vegas.
Some uncle Larry for your Sunday morning:
See ya in 2020 Adam!
The only person that was surprised about how bad the devils were this year was you Larry, who earlier in the article was lamenting Lou not being the Ranger's president.

What do people here think of bringing in Wayne Simmonds? Now before I get laughed off the board or boo'd out of the building, I know he has reached the power forward age equivalent of 27 for rock stars (well technically he's 31 in August) but if the point isn't to sign guys to long term obnoxious contracts, paying him like $4 million for two years isn't the worst idea. He's a pro and competed hard. Leader. He can mentor the kids.
I see it very similar to what Propsal and Fedotenko did for the last group.
Simmonds of a few years ago, sure. Next year's edition? No thanks.
Like good management and an owner who stays out of the way?"At this point, though, with the Sabres out of the playoffs for the eighth straight year despite eight consecutive top-eight draft picks (including a first-overall and a pair of seconds), Eichel still seems more an innocent bystander swept up in ownership meddling." - NYP Brooks
Need more than tankathoning to build a team it seems.

A team will overpay him and we do not want that team to be us.
For two years though? Who else should the Rangers go after that won't command at least 5-6 seasons?
Without even getting into free agency and trades, their drafting outside of the first round has been abysmal.
In many ways it must be especially disappointing for Sabres fans, because for years that was one area where Buffalo was one of the better teams in the league.
It's amazing, too, because most (if not all?) of their top 8 picks dating back to 2012 are still playing for the Sabres and all are in the NHL (save for the 2018 pick). They all "made it" and the Sabres retained them all and they still can't put together a team to squeak into the playoffs.
I just don't get why people keep saying Tankathon doesn't work when it's been proven over and over that it does.
We're going to do this all over again next season anyway. Maybe a full season without Hayes, Zucc and Kreider will help us see the true way.

Then apparently it's just not that important to him. This team cannot afford to be saddled with an albatross of a contract at a point that they are ready to truly compete for something meaningful. If that’s his true desire why would he sign a contract that could be moved to Arizona tomorrow?
Or ByfieldGetting Lafreniere, Gunler or Lundell next year would be amazing
Original 6... one cup in 80 years... never drafted higher than 3rd
Lets try something new eh? Just for sheets and giggles?
