You cannot simply make such an assumption. Simply stating that Kravstov and by next year an 18 year old Kakko can immediately step in and be top 6 forwards is setting your self up for possible disappointment. And while Andersson and Chytil can take steps forward, you have no idea of how much.

Seriously.

Let it become a "problem" before assuming it will be one. These things normally sort themselves out.

Pressure is really on Drury to improve things in Hartford this summer. The Rangers can't afford to continue to have that place be a dumpster fire.

Is the sentiment this morning is to scrap the rebuild, Kravstov & Kappo will be here to be difference makers next year, time to load up on contracts with Trouba & Panarin? Not yours, just in general? Just trying to catch up?

Why not let the kids grow up normally and not presume that they will immediately slide into top 6 roles? Why not tie allow yourself for cap maneuverability in the future? Landing Kappo and bringing Kravstov over means exactly nothing right now. What can be done is that they can be rushed and that would not be a good thing.
There is some belief that the rebuild got accelerated, maybe to the point that we load up now.

I'll say this, I'm still rooted in patience, especially considering the current state of the defense. My reluctance is also based on how unclear our future roster is. Fortunately, free agency is after the draft. Our future will be much clearer after the draft. I want more answers before major commitments. Plug some holes in the lineup and know where organizational glut sits, and free agency is easier to digest

There are some posters think the Rangers are now ready to ‘go all in’. There are those of us who disagree.

I find giving Kreider a long term deal at this point to be very risky. I would much prefer to trade him, get assets, and then use the extra money on some combination of Panarin/Kapanen/Johnsson
This is the direction I would go. Preferably Kapanen/Johnsson.

Kreider is a tough decision. If he is willing to re-sign for a discount then do it for 4 more years. And if some team wants to overpay for him then we can trade him. But we need to trade Shatt and Vesey ASAP.

Its really not hampering us right now. And comparing Staal who had battled more severe injuries imo and plays a different style of game is not comparable either

It isn't hampering us because we are in the middle of a rebuild and don't need the cap space. The same won't be true when we are ready to compete again. Staal had the more debilitating injuries, but Kreider has had his share, and he plays in front of the net a lot and takes a beating. Even if you don't want to compare those 2 players specifically, compare Kreider to all of the 30+ players currently in the league and tell me you can say for certain that he will still be worth that contract in the last 3 years and that it won't come back to bite us.

Assuming Krav and Kakko step into the NHL and Lias and Chytil having regular jobs, emergence of Lemmy, we have too many Fs now, especially middle 6 types.

#2 has put me in the hold off on Panarin camp, we’re going to have to move either Names, Strome, or Vesey. I would trade Vesey to move up somewhere or perhaps for Or even Poolparty if his injury isn’t career threatening.
Stroke looks like he could be a good 3rd line center.

I could see the Rangers committing to Karlsson, and trading Shattenkirk.

I also would not be surprised if Karlsson agrees to a shorter-term deal (4 or 5 years)

That has been some people's position for a while now. They won't characterize it that way, but we have people suggesting we sign both Panarin and EK. I'm sorry, but if you are doing that, the rebuild is officially over. Neither player is coming here to be part of a rebuild and with them on the team, the clock on our window starts ticking. There would be a ton of pressure to win sooner rather than later. Even if we sign just Panarin, it starts the clock ticking because people aren't going to want to waste his prime years.

This has to be said every summer.

I know people are talking about Kreider being available at the draft, but at this point I'd like to keep him around for next season. The aforementioned LW issues make me want to hold on to him until the deadline. Will that lessen the return? Possibly.

My mindset is as follows:
  • Hold onto Kreider until the TDL and he'll anchor a top 6 LW spot for this team, likely the top line with Mika.
  • This allows them to move a player like Vesey (RFA) instead of signing him to a two year deal worth more than what he is worth.
  • Vesey could return a decent draft pick or a B- type prospect. Nothing crazy, but another asset for the team.
  • After the TDL, you can go full youth on the top 6 wings (Kravtsov, Buch, Kakko, and Chytil/Andersson or Lemieux)
  • If not, you have a player like Strome slide into the top 6 to fill in for someone. Names could do this too, but I think he gets moved at the TDL as well.
Not sure how much this will change if they decide to go after Panarin, but we've got a couple months to see where this goes.

Where do we think Knight goes as far as draft number? 15, give or take? I think the best avenue to jump up is identify a high team that would really like to draft him. Detroit? Arizona? Vancouver? Minnesota?

Thats way too high for Detroit to take him. Would they drop down to the high teens, recoup some assets and select a franchise goalie? Vancouver has some nice pieces in place backstopped with Markstrom. There could be an intriguing path here.

Take the Winnipeg 1st and, God willing, the Dallas or TB 1st and get to 14. Then package 14 with a 2nd or whatever is reasonable (this is not my forte), jump to 10 and take a center.

A goalie starved team at the top will be in a pickle, and they would have the best case for dropping.

Its not very easy to do a mock. My best guess would be something like for the top 4.
NJ -- Hughes
NYR -- Kakko
Chicago -- Byram
Colorado -- Turcotte

We can talk all we want about BPA etc, but are Chicago really taking one of the centers with Toews and now Strome? Byram/Boqvist gives them a great shot at building a new great blueline. I can't see Sakic letting Turcotte past them. He will be ready sooner rather than later, gives them a 1-2 punch that could be great.

What does LAK do? I don't think they take Podkolzin, they have a vet team that they are hopeful eventually can get a last go at it. vPod won't come over before 21/22... Dach/Cozens/Zegras. Dach is similar to the kid they took last season...

Detroit would never pass on Turcotte if he is still on the board. They are like Colorado, they want that 1-2 punch with a busdriver on each of the first 2 lines. Larkin is one of them, Turcotte would be the other. But I think Colorado would nab him.

How high are they on Broberg and Soderstrom?

Would Detroit give up the shot of taking one of Podkolzin, 2/3 x Dach/Cozens/Zegras, Broberg or Soderstrom?

Hard to say, but some good kids in that group.

Vesey will fetch next to nothing and Shatty probably even less.

Just a random thought, listening a lot to Gorton lately, you can't help to notice that he is pretty in-tune with the buzz around the team. If curios stats are thrown around, he knows about them. Etc. He must have a social media personality.

I am really shocked how many people want to accelerate this rebuild this fast over one pick. I hope Gorton stays the course. It's going to take these kids time to grow. We also need to get the dead weight off this team, and fix this dumpster fire defense. That is all going to take time. I hate losing as much as the next fan, but next season should be another true rebuilding year and us looking at another Top 8 pick.
If an option to trade Kreider presents itself, you have to take it. He's going to be 28 in 3 weeks. When this team is really ready to compete in 2-3 years does a 31 year old Kreider have the wheels still? We saw how invisible he was the second half.

Our eyes should be set on 2021-2022. No more Smith, Staal, Shatty. Hank also a UFA, maybe resigns as a backup or is gone.
We push to rebuild too fast, and just wind up another team that's good enough to make the playoffs but never a serious threat to win the cup.

I do not post much but figuered I would chime in. I feel signing any big FA this summer and not trying to trade Kreider would be a huge mistake and ruin what is being built right now. The only player I would go after is Fox and let these kids grow and learn from their success and mistakes. Quinn is a great teacher and had a horrible team competing almost every game. In 2 years all these horrible contracts and Hank will be gone that is when you sign a FA if needed. Why waste years now as with out D and youth we will not be a playoff team next year and probably the year after. If management shows patience and continues with what they started this team will be a cup contender every year for a decade or more and hopefully win it multiple times.
