MTL will announce their new coach later today.
They don't have any fans in the building and I don't know if they will even when they're allowed to. I think they are still paying both Julien and Ducharme. Is their next coach a volunteer?

I really feel for fans of any team with a good prospect pool on HF. The vultures on the trade board are so ridiculous. Pavelski for Kakko.
Remember when we were in the same position 5 years ago when the letter came out? For McDonagh and Miller, we couldn't get Sergachev, Tampa's highest pedigree young player, let alone Point or Cirelli who were considered a tier or two below at the time.

I just keep coming back to the fact that Strome, at around $5.25-5.5m on a long term deal (6 years) is pretty much the best choice for now. It kicks the can down the road and the contract is one that can be traded if it is structured properly.
Ryan Strome isnt signing for $5.5m........I bet he gets over $7m on the open market or $6.5m here, as the "hometown discount".

Stevie Y sure fleeced us. I cant wait for all of these selling team's fans rage and disappointment when they see the actual returns.

Nailed it. After next season is over ( likely without a cup ), then what? There be some big holes in the cupboard and at center ice.

If they spend Nils, Kravtsov, Chytil, and a first, the cupboard is basically empty.

Sure they still have Othmann, Robertson, and Jones. Guess what? They need those players to fill their roster in the next year or two.

They have nothing left for a big swing. Don't tell me about Panjuniemi, Cuylle, and Berard. Mid round picks are wishes on a star until they become whatever they are going to actually become in the NHL. Until then they are nothing to count on.

I'll be flat out done with Drury if he trades anything close to that haul for JT Miller.

It's insanity. There's no other way to put it.

Petterson is gonna be a total anchor. He's "bad" Mika or "good" Chytil at this point. Signed for big money, can't win a faceoff for his life, jelly head, isn't trusted to penalty kill on an awful team, hasn't put a pound on in 4 years. Van gonna value him like his Calder year too. Stay away.

I agree with basically nothing you say, but this is spot on. Do not blow your wad on JT Freaking Miller.

He's definitely regressed big time. Doesn't seem engaged.

Most of the team seems to have responded to Boudreau, but Petterson still looks lost. It will be very interesting to see if he can turn it around.

If we compare to our other year and a half acquisitions it looks light.

Martin St Louis + a 2nd for a 1st, a 1st, and an expiring contract with some value (Callahan).

Keith Yandle for a 1st, 2nd, good prospect (Duclair), and young roster player (Moore).

Miller for a 1st, 2nd, Lundkvist, Chytil seems like the comparable. MSL was a bit cheaper I think because he wanted to come here.
While it might seem comparable, where it becomes apples and oranges is when you look at the readiness of the team to compete for the Cup. When you do that this, to many of our sensibilities, is a downright AWFUL trade. You are also ignoring the reality of losing Strome for nothing after the season. So add him to the cost and it isn't even comparable not taking into account the readiness of the team to truly compete for it all...

Would you rather give up:

A. Kravtsov, 1st for Hertl (16 games + 1 PO run, call it 20% chance of retaining)

B. Nils, Chytil, 1st for Miller (98 games + 1-2 PO runs, call it 50% chance of retaining)

A, all day. Kravtsov isn't playing a game for this organization and their first round pick this year will be somewhere in the mid 20s.
