This is the way. Re-sign Strome, give him a long term deal that is front-loaded and a NMC for years 1-3, NTC beyond that. Same structure as Trouba and Kreider. Keep the prospects and picks for a clear upgrade when it becomes available.
Those other two contracts that are working out so great for us- let’s do it again for a player worth even less.

This isn't "without much money tied up by 7th D men or 13th forwards," -- this is not carrying a 7th D man or 13th forward.

It's not possible.

On top of that, your premise that JT Miller is some capstone to a contending top 9 is flawed, because he's not. He's not that good of a player.

He's ok. He's like Ryan Strome. He'll leave us wanting more.

He's not the push us over the top piece.

Hard pass.

So how much cap room does Tampa, Florida, Colorado, or Carolina have and what are they paying their 13th forward and 7th d man?

Are we positive that Larkin is a better player than J.T. Miller?

Depends where he plays. In New York you would have to convince a lot of people here that J.T. Miller is a better hockey player than literally anyone in the building

Away from New York he is Wagyu Hockey

Some truth to what Larry is saying. Lundqvist was fine with the Rangers but he’s been passed by Schneider. This is not unexpected and something I first discussed many months ago. The problem with shopping a top prospect is that they lose luster if they are not playing and advancing. No question he is being shopped and if the right deal come along, he will be moved.

Larry is a little dramatic but he knows this.

The best thing for the Rangers & Lundkvist is for them to trade him now while he's still got top prospect value to a team where he can play a role that's more conducive to his development. Its not rocket science.

To stick here Nils had to play very well out of the gate, because he was never going to play ahead of Fox and Trouba with Schneider nipping at his heels. Plus he was never going to play ahead of Lindgren/Miller on his offside. It could also be argued that weve seen more from Jones.

They are attempting to trade from a surplus, dealing him makes complete sense for a contending team.

Not loving the idea of trading for Miller using the assets the club accumulated after committing to rebuilding the organization and deciding to give that player away for peanuts.

Seems like Reilly Smith, and maybe even Alex Martinez could be players the Rangers could acquire with minimum returns. Maybe even 2nd rounders. Vegas has to move out those salaries. Seems like a perfect swap. RW/C and a LD.

If Chytil, Kravtsov, Lundqvist and or a 1st are being packaged I think it should be to acquire a player with term. Thats a lot of prospects for team looking to get younger, on a rebuild or a re-tool.

finally our red flags are being noticed and people are speaking up:

What kind of idiot hired Ortmeyer, Hunwick and Tanner Glass as a group that handles player development? 3 players that failed to develop into anything more that 4th liners are developing our young players?

I agree with the above.

The issue is, I keep thinking about what Friedman said last week about NYR and its causing me more and more concern.

Paraphrasing, but he said "NYR are good and Drury knows their owner is impatient. I think they'll try for something big". That scares me to death.
Idk we knew this was the case. Dolan didn’t give him the job to sit on his ass.

It’s only scary if you think Drury is an idiot and going to be like Sather.

A whopping thousand views on that video, really getting the word out

It's a slow news cycle for the team & his goal is to sell subscriptions. Sure his pieces are fantasy & not worth paying for, but he keeps the fanbase interested, like him or not.

Lol, he keeps you interested. The rest of us know what he is. Dont post his crap on here

Are we positive that Larkin is a better player than J.T. Miller?

Short answer is yes.

He plays a 200ft game, gives all his effort all the time, can put up points and is very good on the faceoff dot. He is younger, fits in with the timeline of our younger players and is a captain.

JT Miller is one dimensional just like ryan strome

Successful player development coaches aren't necessarily the who's who of NHL 1st liners.

Benoit Allaire, for example, never played a game in the NHL.

If I’m looking at things from Drury’s perspective, the value of JT Miller is two fold.

One he fits a pretty big need for a top 6 forward, the other being his contract. It essentially allows Drury another year to kick the can down the road of finding a 2C that might be more desirable to Strome. It also allows them more time to figure contract situations for some of these guys.

To be clear I don’t want JT Miller back but I understand the interest

I still think Laf/Kakko will be fine. They aren't being relied upon to carry the team like previous top 3 picks and the team is winning. I think maybe the previous regime rushed them a bit, but I think gaining experience for a playoff/Cup contender over the next few years will make them better players in the long run.

Dave Pagnotta just said on NHL Network that he believes there is already a substantial offer on the table for JT Miller from the New York Rangers.

He said VAN sat down with their players over the last week to discuss the future and where they think they stand with the team.

I want to hate this because JT Miller brings up very mixed feelings but he really does make a lot of sense for this version of the Rangers. Kreider & Zibanejad also know him well, so im less worried about him being a locker room issue. Stories ive read out of Vancouver portray JT as a "win at all costs, do everything" type player. If he wasnt an ex-Ranger I think fans would be reacting more positively to the team's interest in him

I think so. Def has a better 2-way game. He’s younger and faster.
He also hasn’t really played with as much upper echelon talent.
Miller is prob the better scorer right now but not by a huge gap..
Both aren’t overly physical but they don’t mind going into the dirty areas on the ice.
Larkin would def improve offensively in our line up, how much better is unknown.
They key with Larkin is you’d like to have him beyond the 2 years he’s signed for....
I def dont want to resign miller to a raise at 30 years old.
Larkin is the better long term fix for the Zibby panarin kreider next 4-5 years.
He s a local kid and was just named captain, hopefully seeing Eichel/Barkov Etc playing in the playoffs in their prime years will trigger something in him not to waste his in a lengthy 3-5 year rebuild window

I was cracking eggs and waiting for my rice to cook and I realized the next level interest in JT Miller is a leak from Drury to pressure Strome to sign for $5.75M. Doing mushroom, kale, over easy eggs, and some ham fried rice.
I don't think it is, I think they want to add Miller to the top of the lineup in addition to keeping Strome.
