Question for the people who are so against giving up lundkvist, a 1st, and a 3rd asset for JT Miller @ 50% retained. How much will Igor cost on his next contract as the most expensive goalie in the nhl?

when over the next 5 years will the rangers have more talent than they would the next 2 postseasons by adding Miller to this roster?

Two and a half years from now, when the flat cap ends and there is an expected big bump in the cap, and when our first wave of kids are 22-25 instead of 20-22, and the second wave of kids is breaking in, and our vet core is still only 30-32. Particularly if we use the assets that some folks have earmarked for the most expensive rentals and use them instead to get either long-term pieces and/or to move up the draft so we can finally add the high-end center prospect we haven't had in 15 years. Also, to hear Vancouver fans, the "3rd asset" would need to be more valuable than Nils and the 1st.

Theres talent internally to improve this roster.

I didn't think Barron was great tonight but I certainly think he's a better option that Mckegg. He made some nice, heavy plays late in that game that will go a long way in a playoff series.

Schenider/Jones need to stay in over Hajek/Nemeth. Jones is playing his off hand and carrying Hajek around and still looks pretty good. He's a great option for a #6. Schneider basically became our #1 RD overnight and he hasn't shied away from it. Keeps getting better every night.

Small add for another middle sixer to sure up the 2nd/3rd line and this team is ready.

Kreids-Zib-Laf
Bread-Strome-KK
trade-Barron-Goodrow
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves?

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Jones-Schneider -- wouldn't mind swapping Jones/Miller here either

Edit: forgot Chytil. Maybe him on the 3rd line and bump Barron in for Hunt. Or trade him :sarcasm:
I’ve been clamoring for this for months.
Really the only difference between us is, I’d keep Goodrow as 3LW. That’s where he’s been a playoff savage, and I go get a Lehkonen or Jarnkrok for 3RW.
Morgan Barron has the size/smarts, and skill to have staying power in this line up.
If ya wana fast fwd a bit, I think replacing strome, Geo, Rooney ( priced himself out). Is 3 critical parts to start next season.
I’d start with a Jones- Schneider 3rd D which should be a carry over from the rest of this season...
But I do think Chytil s days here, especially at center are numbered. Just not enough consistency.
We also get Blais back, so he’d be a welcome addition. I expect at least 1 big trade in the offseason/or at the draft.
Also, between big Austin Reusschoff and Gettinger, we should have an internal fill in for 4th line to go with Hunt and perhaps resigning Jarnkrok to keep Reaves fresh and replace Rooney imo

Barron had a bad start but a good finish. Had a nice chance on the 3 on 1 during the delayed penalty. He is also strong for a young guy, he knocked down quite a few panthers and absorbed a Gudas hit well. Reminds me of Boyle

Yea, I think his shot is def better, and the more time he plays, the more comfortable he’ll get.
He should top out as a 13-17 goal. 30-35 pt 3 C whose big, physical and good at the dot and on the PK.
Imo he’s Taylor made as a 3C in a Gallant system with 2 speedier wings who are good on the forecheck

Goodrow-Barron-Lehkonen. Make it happen Drury

Two weeks and no hockey and I'm sure the conversation around here is going to start bordering on the preposterous.

Guess I'll have to re-double my efforts to find a PS5 at retail. Ain't gonna be easy.

Eh, the win was good. The Rangers play better hockey without the handbreak on, shocking I know. Onwards and upwards towards a cup challenge :)

“I do think at least one team’s made a run at Miller (my guess is the Rangers), but obviously not to the point where the Canucks said yes.“

Kreider - Zib - LAF
Bread - Messier light - K2
Crouse - Kopp - Lehkonen would make a mighty fine third line
Goodrow - Rooney - Reaves
Hunt, McKegg, (Barron)

Add a vet UFA D like Leddy too. Or Smith (BUF) on D

Pieces going out would be Chytil, Gauthier, AG, Hajek, a young Defender not named Schneider, draft picks (not #1)/middle prospects (there are some untouchables)

Deal Kravtsov for Vilardi in the offseason
Strome and likely Rooney too would walk the walk for cap reasons
Goodrow slides up. Maybe sign a cheap stopgap VET C
Blais gets his QO
Offload Nemeth then as well
Cap should work then for next season - as most RFA players will want to sign short term deals now awaiting presumed TV money raises after the 2022/2023 season
After next season one of Trouba or Kreider becomes a likely cap casualty
Hopefully then a few of the guys in the pipeline like Othmann, Cuylle, Korczak, Berard, Edström... are ready too

Yea right! First of all, Nils is just 21 yrs old. No one knows how valuable he will become in 3-4 years. Kid was the best defense man in Sweden's top league just a year ago. He'll put it together here in due time. I'm not saying I wouldn't trade him, but Vancouver gets a first rounder, and someone like Othmann too?? Nah! Should have kept Miller (like we did Kreider) in the first place then.

Got my PS5.

Its a great platform and NHL 22 is a load of fun

I was kind of surprised how strong he is. I was at the LA game last week and he absolutely leveled a guy that tried to hit him in open ice. Like, just braced for impact and the player bounced right off of him.

2.5 years from now at the start of the 2025 season panarin will be turing 33 on oct 30, kreider will be 33, Mika will be 31. Also that first wave of kids all have very smart agents who know the flat cap will be gone, they arent going to screw themselves out of money or their cuts of contracts to help the team, any bump in the cap is going to be soaked up by those kids.

As for moving up in the draft to get a high end center prospect I ask you when are the last 2 or 3 times that a team was able to trade into the top 10 of the draft? How about the top 5?

This article is from 2018 but the concept is still correct, and since this article there hasn't been any massive shift: How often are top 10 NHL Draft picks traded in June? - Sportsnet.ca

This team really doesn't need 3-4 pieces right now. They need the pieces they have to fill the roles they have open. Lafreniere appears to be taking a step playing with Kreider and Zibanejad. If that continues that a HUGE hole filled. When Kaako comes back, staple him to Panarin and Strome, it worked before.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Lafreniere
Panarin-Strome-Kaako
Chytil-Barron/Goodrow-Barron/Goodrow
Hunt/McKegg-Rooney-Reaves/Hunt/McKegg

The clear spot to upgrade is Chytil's in terms of finding the right guy to play on that line. Beyond that, the lineup is pretty much set up front.

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Nemeth/Hajek-Schneider

The clear upgrade here is 3rd pairing LD. I'd be fine finding someone in the mold of a Brendan Smith type.

Shesty
Georgiev

If there is a team out there looking to make an upgrade in goal and interested in Georgiev, now is the time. I have mentioned Edmonton as a location that makes sense for a while. Take Koskinen back and roll with Kinkaid/Koskinen as the backup for the remainder of the season.
