Speculation: Roster Building Thread - Part XXXV

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Theres talent internally to improve this roster.

I didn't think Barron was great tonight but I certainly think he's a better option that Mckegg. He made some nice, heavy plays late in that game that will go a long way in a playoff series.

Schenider/Jones need to stay in over Hajek/Nemeth. Jones is playing his off hand and carrying Hajek around and still looks pretty good. He's a great option for a #6. Schneider basically became our #1 RD overnight and he hasn't shied away from it. Keeps getting better every night.

Small add for another middle sixer to sure up the 2nd/3rd line and this team is ready.

trade-Barron-Goodrow
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves?

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Jones-Schneider -- wouldn't mind swapping Jones/Miller here either

Edit: forgot Chytil. Maybe him on the 3rd line and bump Barron in for Hunt. Or trade him :sarcasm:

Simply cannot fork over a 1st for Lekhonen.

Eric Staal could be a nice addition. But that should not be the only one. Staal will come cheap though. Lekhonen is a great add if the price is right. Jarnkrok. Gallagher with money retained? Can we get Gourde? Love Garland. JT Miller and Giroux would be if the more upper echelon of acquisitions. Kessel. Toffoli.

I think there are going to be a lot of options out there. I think teams that are not securely in a playoff spot will want to sell off parts to get extra picks, no matter the round, to add more bodies to the farm system and hope to hit a homerun on one of those that will be a cheap ELC within the next 3 years where cap will be pretty much flat.

You don't think a take your pick of Chytil plus any of Gorts previously acquired players wouldn't entice him make a deal?

GMs tend to hold a soft spot for their guys.

MTL needs a shake up of young bodies. We have a ton of Gorts Capital to unload. It's not unrealistic.

Tuch is perfect but it might be hard to navigate that contract and still be able to pay a solid 2C unless Strome takes a big discount

I feel like Gorts was always about high picks, but I could definitely see players like Gauthier, Hajek and Reunanen being used as those second or third pieces if we make a trade with Montreal for a rental.
 
We stand to benefit to replace Blais' physiciality.

Who would be available? preferably a person with decent size that can hit, skate and be better than Gauthier at finishing?

Crouse maybe? Adding him and Lehkonen to the 3rd line with Chytil in the middle might actually make him look good at C and give us a real 3rd line. Goodrow plays with Rooney/Reaves to make up for their lack of D

For this year, I'd put Chytil with Bread and Strome and then roll a 3rd line of Goodrow-Barron-Kakko. It gives the team two clear scoring lines and then a shut-down line that can still score and dominate possession. Moving forward, we'd want Kakko in the top six, but right now I think that would do the most to give each of the four lines a clear identity (something the third line has been missing for two+ years).

Jones over Hajek after the break. Please. It's so obvious. Hajek could've lost us the game in the 1st.
Common sense GG: Laf on line 1. Kakko on line 2. Jones over Hajek. Then we've got a chance to make a little run.

Why are we trading Chytil again?

Again, unless he's going in a package for a long term piece, he's still only 22. Patience.
