As much as some of gallants moves have been head scratchers, it is a good thing to remember this is basically the exact same core of a team quinn had, and yet the results are far better.
Sure. It's a young core that's one year older, though. And I would have liked to see last year's team playing teams outside that division.

I wouldn’t be opposed to Schiefle but the cap isn’t going up significantly for like another 5 years

I'm pretty sure next year the cap rises 1 million again, then the following year it could be a 4-6 million increase as we get back on a normal track

Here's how I look at what the NYR should do this year. Mind you, these are my opinions, I'm not saying you need to agree:

I love this team, but they are NOT going deep into the playoffs as currently constructed.

Nothing, no rental, we could realistically add will make us top contender, never mind a favorite, to win the Cup.
Adding rentals will cost assets. In general, this team should not part with anything better than a 3rd rounder or third tier prospect, or combination thereof, for a pure rental. First because there isn't sufficient return for value, since winning the cup will STILL be a very longshot, and there's negative value once our playoffs are over, making it more difficult to add long term solutions. Second, because significant rentals will likely lessen the playing time/experience of our young players which would be the most valuable thing to come out of playing a series or two.

They should only look to add longer term pieces, or assets to use in the acquisition of long term pieces. They shouldn't be looking to deal from our forward pool of prospects, including Chytil if possible, but sure Gauthier can go, and regrettably VK, but only if management feels he has no place here anymore and its the right deal, they should be dealing from our glut: D prospects. I would personally avoid dealing Miller or Schneider at just about all costs.

They should deal cap space for assets at the TDL. Teams need to get players off of LTIR or make trades of their own and need the space. Take a bad expiring contract with prospects or picks attached. Use those assets, along with our D prospect surpluses in the offseason, or in other deals at the trade deadline, to get those long term pieces in positions of need. Or to keep the pipeline full.

Just my take on it.

Can’t wait for Drury to botch a Lundkvist trade like he botched the Buch trade.

Try to think of the bright side. If he screws it up it will be one more failed trade that you can add to your endless loop of fantasy deals like Kreider for Robertson/1st & Buch for Kupari/1st.

I can picture it now, "Had Drury only waited, the Flames were internally discussing adding Lindholm to their initial offer of Tkachuk & a 2nd"

Think Canadian attendance is going to slow down the original projections.
ahhh yes, you may be correct. forgot half those games are being played with nobody in attendance right now.

Well, perhaps the league still gives the $1 million next year and maybe only a 2-3 million the following year and then back on a regular track in year 3. Guess we will see.

Jfresh posted how the Rangers GF percentage is identical to last season yet this teams record is obviously much better. Just proves how important luck, variance, and sequencing are in the outcome of a game. Last year there were some insane blowout wins, while there haven't been any this year I can think of.

I am 100% in the same boat. Don't deal our assets for a rental that likely isn't going to make that much of a difference. I dont think a short term rental piece ( medium / big name rental that is ), is going to push us over the top and make us a serious contender. Use this year as a learning experience for the young guys. If we can get a player or two with term to help with this playoff run and a few more, than great. Go for the big piece, the final piece of the puzzle when we are a little more solidified as a serious contender.

Yes, but did they take into account Arizona playing in a 500 person arena? That has to factor into it skyrocketing right?
There’s gonna be a lot of pushback from ownership on that one, and the players may even try challenging it in court. It massively f***s w hrr

Agree. I would not be the slightest bit upset if they rolled into the playoffs with this exact roster. Maybe a small depth add on wing, but that's it for me.

Scheifele is a slightly better version of Strome. He's a better shooter. He's good in the slot on the PP which we don't need. He's terrible defensively. He's not a great target.

The Rangers were rumored to like Dubois when he was available in Columbus but I don't think Columbus was interested in a package of picks/prospects. Bad decision. Dubois wasn't overly interested in signing long term in Columbus based on where the team was headed and the location. Do we think Winnipeg has been the solution to his woes? Especially if they start selling off guys like Scheifele?

if you can get PLD without giving up Kakko or Laf you have to do it

lol I know it's the All-Star break. That's an additional four days after other teams start playing. But I guess Gallant has his fingers on the pulse of the team more than I do.

Doubtful. We know you are plugged in now that we know about your groundbreaking success in Eastside Hockey Manager that you shared with us the other day. I think you need to call Gerard and let him know he’s doing it wrong.
