Yea, I’m totally for trading our prospect depth at d to improve our forwards group. I just don’t see othmann as untouchable in the hypothetical situation someone brought up where Vancouver would prefer othmann to nils.

that'd be a tough one to take but it's fair. It depends on PLD cap hit.

cap implications too there. We owe him a raise. To get Dubois I may need an elc on the wing to replace Kakko. Might be tough paying them both. So yah sure I’d rather not have to move him to get Dubois but if it were one for one that’s all they’d take to make the trade I’d do it

Agree with Brooks that Lundkvist is probably the guy with the highest percentage chance of being dealt at the deadline.

You've got to think that a few pieces like Lundkvist, Kravtsov, etc could net the Rangers a very good player with significant cap retention.

Key is to use those big pieces for players with term- like the Yandle and MSL deals. Maybe Miller and Chychrun aren't the right guys but there will be other possibilities.

He has 2 more years left after this year making 6.1 a year, just in time for when the cap goes up. Will Strome be cheaper to sign than that? Is Strome a better player? Lateral move? He is on a down year so maybe his value dipped a little too. Just another idea for this thread.

Strome cheaper? Probably. Better? Absolutely not. Scheifele is much better.

The cap will go up in 2 years so long as Arizona doesn't play in a shitty 3.5k fan facility.
The ESPN/Turner deal, the helmet patches are all HRR increases. The espn deal has also started to increase the national footprint which will lead to bigger ad deals in the future.
The Canada tv deal ends in 25-26 so that wont change anything anytime soon, but if they add patches to jerseys (which most fans are opposed to), it would also be a significant bump in HRR.

I'd do scheifele or PLD but the question is going to be cost. Kakko and Laf need to be off the table for scheifle. Laf off the table for PLD.
PLD is also a contract question. He's making 5m now, going to want a raise, and we can't really afford a big one.
Scheifle is the better fit in terms of cap space for the immediate future and the short window we have with mika/panarin primes, this year we dont even need to move strome to afford him which slides him down to the 3rd.
PLD fits more if we manage to keep both laf and kakko and pushing more for their prime windows.
