There are two important dates for Lundqvist. The day of the exit interview and the beginning of UFA.

Gorton will probably get some very frank questions from Henrik about the team's direction and intentions for the immediate future. Gorton may have some frank unsolicited statements. But Henrik won't make any reactionary decisions, he knows it's a long frustrating season and he will need to process the year and the discussion.

Free agency, and the lack of moves if that is how it plays out, will determine the next phase. If Henrik wants a new team, it will happen after July 1.

gorton has already made his plans clear and has done nothing to indicate anything has changed. Hank knows that and has made his decision to stay. nothing has changed

See my point? One person saying they hate Brussels Sprouts (Miller) does not mean Brussels Sprouts (Miller) deserved hating. Plenty of other teams may be quite happy with him. Opinion doesn't equal fact.

Did you mean to reply to someone else? I didn't even realize there was some brussels sprouts/miller analogy happening. I just really like charred brussels sprouts and am very hungry, haha.

The Rangers should just forget the draft picks, trades, and NHL UFA's, and just make an all-star team of college free agents.

Lazar is lacking in talent. I'm not sure that can be overcome.

Many said the same thing about Lemieux.

Lazar has 250 games in the NHL already. The problem is that he only has 64 in the AHL. I heard a recent interview with him. He was thrilled about playing in the AHL this season, that is what he needed. 40 pts in 50 games is not bad, the AHL is not an easy league to score in. He was one of the top scorers for his team. Playing 8-9 minutes a night in the NHL, with his playing style, year in and year out, you just never have the puck. Lazar said it perfectly himself a little while ago, on his AHL stint:
“For me, I’m kind of fed up of being that so-so guy that’s just plugged in here and there. I want to rebuild my game and re-establish myself, and I think the organization is on the same page with that.”

And when people say that he has no skill, he is a great skater. He does have a very good shot. He does have hands and can pull of a lot of moves with the puck on his stick.

Just think that our kids will be helped a bit if they are surrounded by a few more N-S guys. It’s not like the majority of our roster would be that type, Lemieux, Howden to some extent and Lazar. Also, with Lazar on board, in relation to the average team in this league, we would have a very assertive roster physically. I also think that is good for a young team.

Lazar was a 17th pick. He didn't do any better in junior hockey than Brett Howden did.

He was never anything particularly special at one point, like a Dylan Strome or a Puljujarvi.

Deal Vesey and Names for picks or whatever.

Deal Shatty or dump him in the AHL (he can walk away if he wants to and become an UFA).

Get Fox and sign CURTIS LAZAR as a free agent.

Forget about the big name UFAs.

Kravtsov-Ziba-Buch
Howden-Chytil-Lazar
Lemieux-Lias-Fast
Smith-Strome-Vinny
Staal-TDA
Skjei-Fox
Hajak-Pionk
Geo
Hank

PO team. Questions on this?
Some solid ideas but what about Kreider?

Just went for the last Brussles Sprouts guy in the thread. No biggie.

Honestly, Hank sounds like a guy who has accepted his fate and is willing to see this through.

Maybe he just doesn't want to create public drama and is actually requesting to be moved behind closed doors, but if thats the case (which I doubt it to be) good for him. He could just as easily make a stink about wanting to be competitive and back in the playoff picture ASAP because he doesn't have many years left and try to force the FO's hand to make some dumb decisions but he hasn't done that.

Last year at this time he was all gung ho about how they need to get back to winning this year, his comments now seem to be rooted in reality knowing that its going to be a long road back, and his exit may come before they're ready to compete/contend again.

I hope that he's along for the ride, even if he's riding shotgun.

I talked to someone in the know about Hank tonight. Sure. He is frustrated. And a bit flabbergasted. But it seems he still wants to retire a Ranger. My source however said nothing is certain here. If there is interest from a realistic contender this offseason or next - it is possible he might reconsider & waive. He has not been asked. Yet. I will follow this closely

But Lazar has 15 goals in his NHL career. Lemieux has 12 this year.

As long as he signs for cheap, he can sit around and be our backup until it's over if he wants.

I agree with the above in theory, however if you've seen recent quotes from Hank it sure sounds like he's expecting some fairly impactful additions over the summer. "Asked how quickly he believes the Rangers’ rebuilding plan can be accelerated, Lundqvist replied: “I don’t know. I don’t know how quick you can turn things around, or what’s gonna happen this summer. There’s obviously gonna be some action, for sure.”

Well, what if there is no action? Last summer they signed one player, a 7th defenseman. Is he under the impression the Rangers will be players for EK/AP?

I agree with the above post regarding how impactful the first week of July will be here. What if he's sitting there on July 9th with no "quick impact" moves having happened at the Draft, Breadman in Florida and EK resigning in SJ. Does the reality of this thing REALLY hit him then? I think it bears considering.

Yep. I think he could end up wanting out come the trade deadline. That's my prediction at least.

Hopefully some team will be willing to trade for him with another year at 8.5M per if the time comes...but saying it out loud makes it sound doubtful.

See that's the last thing I would think he would want. I don't think he'd want to move midseason.

What I think it boils down to is that points wise we replaced Hayes contributions, plus we added a 1st rounder since the deadline. Hayes has been way overvalued on this forum for a 50 point player.

Right. The same place that Ryan f***ing Strome is now being kicked around as the future.

Action can mean players in or out.

Could theoreticaly Lundqvist and NYR agree on a mutual contract termination?
We often see older prospects do that, then they go over or back to Europe. But could a player sign with another NHL club?
Lundqvist have made a ton of money, and I'm sure he knows that his cap hit might be to high for a contender.
