Rangers or nothing.

LFG...

If that's the case, the Carolina has zero actual leverage... Other teams are not going to pay more than a 5th for a guy who is gunna bolt in a year and go to NYR as a free agent. Canes may want a 2nd out of it, but other teams not putting in bids + the Rangers having the ability to offer whatever they want = Canes cannot simply receive the high asking price they've set

I really don't see the drama with Hank. Feels like manufactured stuff by people who need to write about something when not much is happening.

They told him the plan and asked if he wanted to stay just last year. He did.

In terms of trading him, if you put all the nostalgia and history aside, he's a very expensive and older starter who is not very reliable, who is unstoppable sometimes and very beatable others. What team is going to trade for that and take that hit? And presumably offer something good enough in return for NYR to want to run with just Georgiev, who himself runs very hot and cold, and maybe Shesty who hasn't played a single game yet?

People talk like we have a good stable of goalies lined up for NYR, or even another solid starter. We don't. Georgiev was really, really bad just this year.

I'd take all the worry away from Hank and trade him this summer to a Blues team that needs a good goalie.

I'd take Jake Allen back and let him split time with Georgiev or Shesty

If Hank is gonna pull a zucc and cry is fricken wheaties, I have no need or patience for that
With the emergence of Binnington I don’t see St. Louis being interested.

I also saw SJ mentioned as a possible spot for Hank. I would mention the poster if i remembered or cared to look back.

You know there is a human side to this as well. I know it is difficult to believe. Hank is 37. He has played his whole career on the East coast in the Eastern conference. You think he is going to want to move his family out west, anywhere really, to endure a tougher travel schedule at this juncture? Yes winning a cup would be great but sometimes life changes your goals. He has won a championship in the SHL, a Gold medal for Sweden. He didnt or hasnt* won the Cup but I think he has come to terms with that as a possibility and would prefer to continue the life he has built in NYC. He has a great setup here. Beloved by the city and lets be honest he has a great face for endorsements even after his career ends.

People are so damn unrealistic to think he is going to waive his NTC.

yeah and most humans make less than 40,000 a year, while he makes over 8 million and we should worry about hurting his feelings by trading him to a good team like Sharks?

Is it drama though? Seems topical enough to write about one of the greatest players in the history of the franchise being unhappy and having a hard time adjusting. It's an interesting discussion that lends some humanity to the whole idea of "assets" in the rebuild. It's not like the media is trying to force him out the door.

A lot can change in a year. This is the first time Hank has had to deal with a team this bad and the realization that his goals don't necessarily line up with that of the franchise. I can't even imagine the toll it's taking on him mentally given how much of a competitor he is.

There's always been talk about Shesty being the heir to the throne, but he's actually losing starts to Georgie now. At least with Talbot there was never a doubt who was #1, but now? It's just another major shift in his standing within the org.

Do I want Hank to go? Absolutely not. Would I stop him from leaving if he asked to be traded? Also no. I could 100% see the reasons why he would change his mind.

Now to your point about the pipeline, yes, I don't see a proven heir there just yet. Any trade for Hank would require a seasoned netminder coming into the org somehow. If only to serve as a buffer for the next era.

Do people forget that Martin Jones exists? The Sharks are going to have to pay Karlsson, Meier, and Pavelski this summer; Joe Thornton too if he comes back.

Where are they getting the cap space to sign all of these players, how are they moving Jones, and why are we doing them a favor in retaining on Hank for two more years?

If Hank requests a trade we will have to retain regardless of what team he is traded to. Otherwise he will be perceived as a negative value asset.

If Bob leaves Columbus, Lundqvist could maybe fit in there.

If Panarin leaves, maybe Kreider too.

I have no idea what Columbus is up to, they have all of Duchene, Panarin, Bob, Dzingel, McQuaid as pending UFAs.

If they all leave, they either have to find a way to back-fill, or they have to start to rebuild, yet their cap structure for a rebuild looks bad.

I'd guess a retool if they trade out more futures and make a UFA signing perhaps. Rangers have several players that could fit into a retool, some of which they signed themselves for that purpose. Columbus does not have many futures left, Foudy, and if Duchene leaves it opens up their 2020 1st.

I don't think there's any if's as far as Panarin leaving it's just where he's going.

I don't have any proof but I do have the sense that Kreider and Torts don't really like each other.

The reality is that Hank gets to decide. Two more years to go. If he changes his mind and OK’s a deal, I would be happy for him. If he wants to finish out his NHL career here, he’s earned the choice.

Understood, but in this scenario, it’d have to most likely be 50% and I don’t want to incur that much retention.

Personal bias aside, I want Hank to retire a Ranger and for him to show the younger guys the focus and mentality required to be a consistent elite-level player. He’s one of the most consistent players to ever play.

1. It's not about us worrying about his feelings, it's about what he wants to do because he is the one with a full NMC.

2. If we're going to judge how we feel about sports and athletes in the lens of "but regular people make less, so why should I care!?" then what are we even doing here? We're all well aware that they're rich and successful beyond the average person.

I'm down for a Vesey for Fox swap. Mainly because I don't want the Rangers to pay Vesey a really dumb next contract. Get him out of town before that happens and we add Fox? Win win situation.

Not a win-win situation. We'd be better off moving Vesey for futures and not trading anything for Fox since we'll likely sign him next summer.

Also - what kind of contract are you worried about with Vesey?
