I wouldn't ask about Laf directly. I would ask about the inconsistency related to other players. Strome is easy because he does something stupid easily 6 times a game. You could ask why other players have reduced ice time and roles when there are some who commit more egregious errors and see no reduction in time whatsoever. Then keep asking the question. He doesn't have to answer, but he does have to deal with the issue. I like Gallant. Every coach has an unhealthy loyalty to certain players. However, Strome needs to be loaded into a catapult and launched into the Sun.
This is all valid but if you've ever watched a Gallant presser you know he will just avoid it or give a non-answer. And he's never going to deal with this issue because it's not an issue for him. That's because he's bad at coaching.

Vegas is not going to forfeit games.

C’mon man!
I doubt it comes to that, but by the CBA, it is a possibility:

26.13 Enforcement by the System Arbitrator.

In the event that the System Arbitrator finds that a Circumvention has been committed by a Club or a Club Actor, the Commissioner may impose any or all of the following penalties and/or remedies set forth below:

(iv) Declare a forfeiture of any NHL Game(s) determined to have been affected by a Circumvention;

Reactions: Rangers in 7
I was worried he’d be closer to 6x$6M because he’s an Overhardt client, but something closer to 5x$5M would be a solid deal given that he can be plugged in all over the top-9. I have faith in Chytil taking a step forward next year, and I’d prefer to roll with him and Copp going forward.

Rangers need to be smart about their other contracts, but they can make it work finding good depth like Hunt/Motte.

They need to get in on the Pittsburgh model of drafting/developing those PPG USHL players in their draft year that consistently turn into quality bottom-6 players that fit their systems. They hit huge on Guentzel becoming a star. Rust is a great complementary piece. I’m hoping Berard fits that same mold for the Rangers. John Lilley found some great pieces for Toronto in Abruzzeze, Knies, and Robertson.
Artemi Panarin's centers in his career haven't been all star centers. Artem Anisimov. They played with Kane. Pierre Luc-Dubois was the center in Columbus. PLD is a heck of a player. Cam Atkinson was with them a lot.

Panarin has played almost exclusively(they have played nearly 2500 minutes together) with Strome. Ryan's career was going nowhere prior to the trade from Edmonton.

The Rangers need to move on from Strome. Put Panarin with either Copp or Chytil and either Kakko or Lafreniere.

every day Strome plays he just makes me look dumber for defending him lol

he's been putrid the last few weeks. especially with some speed on the team it's so obvious how little of a f*** he gives.
The irony of it all may be that in the end Panarin and Strome are BOTH better away from each other than together. The 'chemistry' of that whole magic season seems to have actually been between Fast and Panarin lmao

I've been saying it for a minute... stack the top line. Kreider and Zibs have been hustlin... It will create the space needed for Panarin.

Panarin Zibs Kreider
Laffy Copp Strome
Motte Chytil Vatrano
Hunt Goodrow Reaves/Brodz

the lineup needs a fundamental shaking. It hasn't worked all season. One of Kreider-Mika or Panarin-Strome needs to be broken up. At least the Zibs line is producing.

32T thoughts today.

Friedman says Drury really tried to get Giroux done. Says Sakic may have offered Philly Justin Barron and a 1st. Giroux was telling everyone he would only go to Florida.
Kyle Davidson is making many friends in The NHL GM circles. Friedman brought up Davidson and Bill Guerin having tough negotiations for MAF. Mike Russo wrote the Wild and Hawks had agreed to a Fleury trade and Chicago tried to get Kaapo Kahkonen in the deal. Guerin had Kahkonen headed to SJ. Kyle Dubas is mad at Davidson for leaking their trade negotiations. Toronto is trying to sign Matt Knies and his name was leaked in a trade rumor.

Looking at the Vegas situation with Dadonov, it seems like the deal will get voided, which means Vegas will have to do something else to clear cap space.

Any player they trade at this point can't play for their new team. I originally thought it was just in the playoffs that he couldn't play, but according to Mouser, who is very knowledgeable about these things, the player can't play even in the regular season.

So which team is going to take on Dadonov's contract and then not play him the rest of the year? I can't see any team doing that. He has another year left on a 5 mil cap hit, with 6.5 mil in actual money. Reilly Smith is a pending UFA, and he also has a 5 mil cap hit. Moving him out would clear the same amount of cap space as moving Dadonov. He also doesn't have any trade protection according to CapFriendly.

It would be a really shitty move on Vegas' part to trade him, since he will then be ineligible to play the rest of the year, but I don't know what other choice they have. Martinez is going to come off LTIR eventually and they have to make room for him.

So, it seems like Vegas will have to pay some team to take Smith. The Rangers could take on that contract in exchange for Vegas' 2nd this year, or 1st next year.

It may not end up playing out that way. The league might just penalize the shit out of Vegas and allow them to activate Martinez without first clearing cap space. That wouldn't be an ideal solution as it puts the integrity of the league into question, but it also doesn't screw over a player who has done absolutely nothing wrong. It's also possible that the league makes an exception and allows the traded player to still play for his new team. That would also put the integrity of the league into question, though I think to a lesser degree.

Another option, and the one that is likely most by the rules, would be to have Vegas forfeit every game once Martinez is activated, since they won't be cap compliant. It's a fitting scenario for Vegas, but gifting other teams free wins doesn't seem very fair. Vegas has 16 games left. I don't know when Martinez will have to come off LTIR, and they will likely stretch it as long as possible, but even if it's only 8 games that they forfeit, that's 8 free wins for teams that may be in a playoff race. They play Vancouver 3 times in their last 12 games. If all of those are forfeit, that greatly helps Vancouver's chances of making the playoffs.

It's a huge mess and I don't envy the NHL in figuring it out. Then again, they should have a system in place to ensure that no trade lists are registered with the league, and not just managed by the teams.
Looks like Vegas finally will be paying the piper. Absolutely don't feel bad for them or players affected - who will continue to get paid. A lesson to those posters who make roster suggestions with a disregard to cap implications ("they will figure it out" or "Drury will do cap magic"). NHL should make a lesson out of Vegas for everyone else.

Defending Strome when he was called AHLer or something similarly ridiculous and not wanting him as your 2C on a contending team are not the same thing. It's not about him not giving a f*** but that he's just not good for that role and / or being paid at that level - at least as it would apply to the Rangers.

So it is now reported that central registry had the same impression as vegas that dadnov could be traded to the ducks. so again, the nhl is partially at fault here bc if vegas and central registry both had the same impression at the time of the ott trade then they both messed up. willing to bet this is turning into a situation behind closed doors where vegas is saying to the league that if central registry agreed with vegas' interpretation of events last summer and they also approved the trade on monday than vegas shouldnt be the ones getting screwed here bc the league should have caught an issue at the time of the ottawa trade. the people saying vegas knowing tried to violate dadanov's ntc are just flat wrong, if that was the case central registry wouldnt have approved the trade monday (which they absolutely did).

I'm sure the nhl is hoping vegas and arz can figure out a trade now so the league can just veto this deal to save face for themselves and central registry but no one gets hurt here. Dadanov then gets paid to go home for the rest of the season ha

Id assume his agent and the nhlpa are telling him not to accept the move.
There were multiple balls dropped on this and Dadanov did nothing wrong.
Theres no leverage any team has to get him to accept the deal as they cant touch his contract.

With all of the depth they have now and the idea of letting Strome walk its worth taking a look at multiple combinations. When Kakko comes back its even stronger.

But to say it hasnt worked is a little silly. I understand Igor has been a big part of things but lets give the skaters a little bit of credit. They are on pace for a 109 point season. Its not that dramatic.

Giroux would have been a great fit, unfortunate (or fortunate if you didn't want to trade a 1st+) that he would only go to Florida.

Yeah, a fat chunk of Kreider, Mika, Panarin and Fox's #'s stem from our PP.

I'm talking about 5v5

I agree to an extent, but I’d leave the first line alone. I think the shakeup required is really just to break up Panarin and Strome by moving Strome out of the top 6.
