Can you tell me why Gourde is the right player to be our 2C? And why he is a significantly better option than Copp?

He’s a much much better overall player than Copp and as I mentioned yesterday basically is putting up the same points as Strome who plays with Panarin and on one of the best powerplays in the world

I'm not convinced the Rangers aren't kicking the tires on keeping Strome.

He's averaging 60 points per 82 games with the Rangers. Anybody else doing that is going to be more expensive.

They're also convinced he has CHeMiStRy witH paNARIn which they're wrong about but they think it.

Any scenario that involves keeping Strome makes it CRUCIAL that the 3C is a physical, dependable, defensive matchup center.

I think Goodrow can fill that role, but Goodrow-3C-Blais would be preferable.

I don’t understand where Kakko and Chytil fit if we’re still in on some of these guys without moving at least Chytil out.

Seems like this is going to be a significant day or nothing at all for the forward group

Kakko can just move to the third line. It's perfectly fine. He's hurt anyway and we don't know when he's back. The playoffs are not a time to try and develop guys and put them in big roles. If our top two RW in the playoffs are Laf/Kakko that is almost definitely the worst top six RW of any playoff team. That spot needs to be improved, with a rental, to have one guy slide down.

Well no moving Kakko to the third line would just flip with Vatrano so no that doesn’t create a hole.

Just seems like Vatrano was an important piece and the type I expected but if Kakko is back soon along with Rooney…..

Kreider Mika Laf
Panarin Strome Kakko
Goodrow Chytil Vatrano
Mckegg/Rooney/Reaves/Brodzinski/Barron/Gauthier

So I mean that top 9 doesn’t have a hole unless you’re ready to make one right?

Yes, it makes it all the more important that our third center does all the 5v5 things the other two don't, but it also gives us less money to play with while asking the player to be capable of more.

FLA - Giroux/Duclair/Reinhart
TB - Kucherov/Cirelli/Hagel
BOS - Pastrnak/DeBrusk/C. Smith
TOR - Marner/Nylander/Kase
CAR - Svechnikov/Necas/Fast
PIT - Rust/Rodrigues/Kapanen
WSH - Wilson/Oshie/Hathaway

The top six has a major hole in it. The RW group is atrocious compared to the other eastern conference playoff teams.

The need to get it to at least something like the below and that is still weak at RW

Kreider Zibanejad Laf/Kakko/Better RW
Panarin Strome Laf/Kakko/Better RW
Vatrano Chytil Laf/Kakko/Better RW
Hunt Rooney Goodrow

McKegg/Reaves/Brodzinski to the bench

Ok Goodrow isn’t a 4th line player in the playoffs that’s not happening and neither is removing Reaves. Let’s deal in reality here. Gallant is not going to press box Reaves for the playoffs after what he’s done all year. Not a video game

Well the reality is if they play Goodrow up the lineup and play Reaves then the depth is awful. Reaves was benched in the playoffs just last year. What has he done all year? The team has been outscored 24-14 with him on the ice. Goodrow Rooney Reaves has the 4th worst xg% of any line in the league with at least 100 mins. Hunt Rooney Reaves is the only line with that much ice time to have scored 0 goals.

Every other team, other than WSH who has good depth with Oshie/Wilson, has a top player there. We have two young guys with a high of 23 points and a guy we just got for a 4th round pick (who is a good goal scorer). It's a major major weakness.

Goodrow was one of the top minute eaters for Tampa on way to winning a Cup. So that’s nonsense. He’s going to play in the top 9. As he should.

And Reaves isn’t coming out of the lineup you have watched gallant all year his loyalty. You aren’t being realistic

Like I said if you want to improve the top 9 you have to MAKE a hole. So imo it’s going to be a significant shake up or nothing at all today for the forward group

Kreider-Zib-Laf
Panarin-Strome-Vatrano
Chytil-Goodrow-Kakko
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves

Is what I would trot out in the playoffs barring any further acquisitions. McKegg gets cycled in for Reaves once in a while.

I will say this, if garland is retained at all that’s a HUGE W

The guy is already on a very friendly deal

If it happens you have to seriously consider trying laf at the center position going forward

Right

There isn’t a hole there unless you decide to make one. Chytil is the guy I’d have my eye on today. If they don’t move him I don’t think they do anything up front. They aren’t going to press box Kakko who doesn’t have a broken neck it’s a wrist and he will be back soon enough

I don’t know I still think JT Miller is a possibility
