Here's an interesting one for me. Ottawa just traded Nick Paul to Tampa and received Mathieu Joseph from Tampa in exchange. Mathieu Joseph is a RFA at years end and is probably looking a nice pay bump from his $737k he makes this year. He has 18 points in 58 games and plays a bit of a physical style based on speed. He would be a good addition to the Rangers bottom-6 with his playing style and perhaps the team re-signs him to a 3-4 year deal to keep the cap hit down. Would Ottawa trade Joseph?

12. Conor Garland
Right Wing, Vancouver Canucks
Age: 26
Contract: 4 more seasons, $4.95 million AAV
🆕 Last Rank: NR
Scoop: Conversation has picked up on Garland in the last 48-72 hours before the deadline. He is a fit on a number of different teams, including the Kings and Rangers, both of whom are believed to have expressed interest. He is the perfect stylistic fit in New York as a player who is willing to drag his teammates into the fit. Plays much bigger than his frame and has produced at every level, dating back to when he outscored teammate Jack Eichel with the Boston Jr. Bruins. He just isn’t Jim Rutherford’s prototype winger and the Canucks are looking for cap flexibility.

Why would we add both? We can't keep both long term. Doesn't make sense. I like Garland, but do we need another high priced winger?
Well my scenario includes him coming to NY with salary retained. I think if you can find homes for Nemeth & Chytil(or theyre part of a trade) and you let Strome walk, you can probably fit both. Garland retained wouldn't be too bad, his caphit before retention is 4.95 Mil.

I just read Staples lastest, he said Copp is one of the few Drury would consider trading his 1st for and that there’s interest in extending Copp if the salary works

However, Staple implies Copp would make a great long term 3rd line with Goodrow similar to Tampa’s, so idk if they see Copp as a Strome replacement
Sounds like Chytil isn't long for this team even if he's here at 4pm today

Can you tell me why Gourde is the right player to be our 2C? And why he is a significantly better option than Copp?
It's pretty simple, really. Gourde is one of the best 5v5 centers in the league and he's better than Copp at basically everything.

He scores at even strength, he's nasty, he's elite defensively. He's an adult version of Copp.

Copp's defensive is sort of up and down. Some years, he's a great defender. Other years (like this one), he's Strome with less scoring.

We need a great 5v5, all situations center because Zibanejad isn't that player. I maintain we should have gotten Danault at whatever it cost. Gourde would be the next best thing,

I'm still confused why people are so against William Karlsson, knowing hew was coming back from an injury and is playing a different role this season but are so gung ho to give up 3 prime assets for Gourde.

I think there's a wishful dream of reconstituting that Tampa championship-attaining 3rd line. I don't think he'd play 2C here anyway. They're going to live and die with Strome because of Panarin.

If Drury makes moves, who getting dropped down? who's sitting?

Do we really think McKegg is going to be in a suit?

Original thinking was that Rackell is a bit more established and has been a better producer over the course of his career (once almost hitting a PPG). His output this season hasn't been amazing but he's still only 28.

I rushed to judgement basically not taking into consideration that whatever Copp lacks on the production front he seems to make up for it in other ways.
You can make an argument this team already has a ton of the harder to acquire components already in place (elite goaltending, elite goalscoring on top line and partially the 2nd line, elite PP, 2 elite Dmen, 2 young promising ones).

Just need to stabilize with some key veteran core pieces that do some things well.

Need to see what we do.

Nice!

I'm at work getting paid to do this all day.

I always liked (or hated) Justin Braun. I think he’d be a great depth pick to give Schneider some support. Was just mentioned on TsN we’re in on him

At this point, I think I only want to see them move a mid rounder for a depth D. Anything big can wait for Summer/Draft.

I would trade a significant package for Garland at 50%. Retention would be unlikely though with so many years left.

He's playing the same role this year as he's always played. Prior to all the injuries/Eichel he was with Marchessault and Smith the whole year as always. Lately he's been the first line with with Eichel and Marchessault.

Additionally Vegas is trying to make the playoffs and is not going to trade him. Their regular season team is worse than what their playoff team will be since they will get Stone back. They can trade him in the offseason if need be.
