Regarding Copp's playoff numbers, context matters. 16 of his 34 playoff games were in 2017-18. He only played 10:36 at even strength in those games, 11th most among forwards. The following year, he had 5 points in 6 games, and then 2 points in 4 games the next. Last year he only had 2 points in 8 games. Those 2 points came in the first round sweep of Edmonton. He had no points against Montreal, but his entire team only scored 6 goals in 4 games.
Rakell has less points than Copp and doesn't play center. How is he worth more?
Rakell gets a larger amount of PP time with respect to the rest of his team (3rd most, whereas Copp is 7th most on Winnipeg). Despite that, they both have 9 PP points this year. Copp (56 games) plays 14:54 at even strength and has 24 points. Rakell (51 games) plays 15:47 at even strength and has 19 points.
Copp plays on the PK. He's 2nd most on his team in PK ice time per game, and the most among forwards. Copp takes faceoffs. 578 total (4th most on the team) with a 54% win rate. Rakell has taken 74 faceoffs and has won 44.6% of them.
Whether Copp is the answer to our 2C problem is up for debate, but he's easily worth more than Rakell.
Hadn't realized the extent of his usage on the PK and faceoff prowess, thanks for bringing that to light. Think that sways me a bit since we suck at FO's and adding another competent PK'er should solidify us as one of the best in the league in that regard.
