Dreger: Five teams with 'strong interest' in Chychrun - TSN.ca

Rangers being used to up the price??? Rangers in the Chychrun hunt or not?

“Now, sources say that the list of teams with strong interest in Chychrun includes L.A., Florida, Boston, Anaheim and the St. Louis Blues. Now, Bill Armstrong obviously has time on his side, so he is going to let this marinate a little bit more, unless he gets the four components that are needed."

Today’s Media Availability.Coach Gerard Gallant.

He didn't really answer the question on how Goat can STICK there if given the opp. Overall though, I think going forward, for our future, Laf has to be one of his "top guys". Kakko has been most of this year, Laf...eh not so much. Even when he was playing on the top line.

Lafreniere: 0 PP points in 128:50 gets him 1:20 out of 5:00 of the Rangers PP time per game (27%)
Kakko: 18 PP points in 256:37 gets him 1:42 out of 5:08 of the Rangers PP time per game (33%)
Daniel: 30 PP points in 543:25 gets him 2:20 out of 8:16 of the Canucks PP time per game (28%)
Henrik: 37 PP points in 628:26 gets him 2:36 out of 8:16 of the Canucks PP time per game (29%)

I don't think our guys come off as hard done by in this comparison.
Yeah, the other way to phrase it is that both Sedin's more than doubled Kakko's PP time and that Daniel has 4x and Henrik nearly has 5x lol

Using percentages is incredibly disingenuous when making the comparison

????

The Rangers can only give out the powerplay time that they get.

Via the Athletic / Duhatschek's Mailbag:

"What value does Vitali Kravtsov have as a Rangers trade chip? He looks destined to be moved based on his relationship with GM Chris Drury. – Brandon L.

Kravtsov’s status came up the last time I did a mailbag and my answer is going to be similar: It depends mostly on how teams outside of the Rangers organization evaluate his upside and their view of how he will eventually adapt to the North American game. Right or wrong, the fact that he isn’t here, apprenticing in the minors, is going to be seen as a red flag by some suitors because it would signal to them a willingness to flee back to the KHL if things go off the rails even slightly.

What Kravtsov will need is an ally in some NHL front office somewhere, a voice that genuinely believes that if he’s given the chance, he’ll shine in a top-six role and the uneven start to his NHL career will be quickly forgotten. That, in turn, will determine his value. So, then it comes down to acquisition cost. It’s a gamble for the acquiring team. I’m willing to guess that there’d be teams out there willing to bet a second-round pick that they can get Kravtsov going, but no one – to date – has been willing to pony up a first-rounder for his rights. So probably a stalemate for now but it is also probable that if the Rangers lowered the price, someone will step in and make an offer."

I don't want to get into the whole debate all over again, but not going to the AHL for a stint really hurt the Rangers and Kravtsov equally. Not only would he have played quite a few NHL games considering Covid/injuries/etc.., he would've augmented his value to other organizations that might've started him in their lineup(s).

The smart thing to do is bring him over for the end of the season. The team needs a RW. Play him there.
He's worth more to us by actually letting him play than trading him now.

We've gone this far, why trade him now. The time to trade him ( and Lundkvist ) was in the offseason.

If Hertl played his career to this point without those knee injuries, I would be ok to give Sharks any asset they want.

He's a pending UFA and will cost more on his next contract than we can afford. Those injuries are the only thing that might keep his next contract down at all.

Friedman reported that the Rangers are out, for now:

32 Thoughts: A lesson to learn

My sense is Los Angeles and the Rangers are out for now -- weird stuff happens, you never know. But we’re past the fact-finding stage and we’ll see when it closes.

I'm guessing the Rangers did their due diligence and decided the price is higher than they're willing to pay. If the price comes down, maybe they'll get back in, but I doubt that happens.

And you know what, if he actually comes back and plays and does well.... maybe you just keep him.

Chytil, Lundkvist, Robertson, Othmann, Berard, other picks, not Zac Jones, even Schneider if it came down to it. I know some of those names will draw some ire but they are still there as trade chips if needed.
to me you are identifying what we really have in the system all together, and if we start tearing through the group you listed than we are really starting to rip the guts out of our prospect system/assets that were meant to backfill the big contracts we will have to give to our young players as they age

The question might be is will he come?
Maybe an understanding was reached by Drury and Kratsov’s agent is that he doesn’t talk about never returning to the Ranger’s and diminishing his trade value and the organization allows him to play in the KHL while he’s still under contract here while they facilitate his trade request?
