If we had a better backup it might be better too.
And if we had Keith Kinkaid as our backup it would probably be worse.

Kinkaid is consistent, even if doesn’t match Georgiev’s better games.
You can play a system in front of a consistent goalie. You never know when Georgiev is going to bomb one.
I don't care much for paying the price on Giordano.... but Gourde... I'd gladly pay the premiumLet me say this….
If I’m Chris Drury I call Ron Francis to get Giordano and Gourde and I don’t get off the phone until I have a deal.
I’d let Strome walk in the offseason and put Gourde at 2C Goodrow at 3C
gourde at 3 more years after this one around 5 mil is perfect for this window
I honestly don’t care what we give up.
Schneider lafreniere Kakko are obviously not on the table. But anyone else? Empty the cupboards as far as I’m concerned to get gourde and Giordano.
I’d absolutely part with Chytil to get gourde and that’s knowing I’m trading him when his stock is lower than it was 6 months ago. I know Chytil is a good player. But I’d still do it.
In fact I’ll give you an offer here right now Ron Francis
Chytil Kravtsov Lundkvist and a first round pick in 2022 and a 2nd round pick in 2023 for the two of them.
It would be a dereliction of duty if Drury doesn't add.
You have a team with all of the talent listed above and also has some clear deficiencies while also having 35m+ in deadline cap space available.
You don't sell the farm and tank your future for one run but you 100% have to make some additions and honestly for the life of me can not figure out why people are against buying.
I think it's ptsd from years of buying while not having the type of talent listed above and having a completely barren system.
Buying now with our surplus of assets and truly elite talent is a lot different than the buying under Sather - when we basically had no ammunition left to be buying so it screwed up our future and those teams had basically no elite talent after Lundqvist. This team has a norris winner, Hart candidate, elite 1c, Richard candidate on top of the elite goalie. At the end of the day the entire point in rebuilding and building up the system is to win a Stanley Cup so if you're staring at a legitimate shot you have to try and put your best foot forward. You don't sell the farm but thanks to the rebuild we have so many assets we can make serious trades where we're not losing too much overall from the future.
I just don't see them trading Gourde. Gourde will probably still bring in a good haul even as a pure rental. He's all that team has at the moment.Let me say this….

OK. So using you’re scenario, how much are you willing to overpay?Let me say this….

This team does not need a Giordano on the roster. I think his reputation increases his value. Rental LHD that isn't more than a 3rd pair type isn't on my radar. There are enough possible pieces in the system to fill that role.
Nemeth is out for personal reasons. I wonder if this has been a thing all season. I hope when he gets this resolved, he can come back and play like he has before. I also would not mind a situation where Robertson gets a look as well in a game or two. The easiest solution is to play Jones and Schneider together, but two rookies might be asking for too much.
Gourde I would definitely take. My concern would be is he actually a 2C and one that you can win with in that role on a cup contender. I would hope he is based on what the package to get looks like. I don't think he is moved anytime soon. Seattle likely would want him to help Beniers as he grows into a 1C role.
I do wonder if Drury will be active during that two week break. Obviously after the ASG, you've got plenty of time to add a piece and integrate them in practice. I am hopeful that they can make at least one move they need to make during that time.
I agree completely with this. Our RW depth is awful. There are players like Kessel and others that will not cost a lot to get as we need zero retention on any contract. We have two 2nd round picks. We can spend one. We can spend the late picks too. We also can weaponize our cap space to pickup some extra picks if we really want to. Is someone like a Marcus Johansson or Ryan Dzingel going to break the bank? No. We aren't losing a Jones, Robertson, or Lundkvist in those deals. Does it make our depth much better than having to play Gettinger or Brodzinski? Absolutely.
Rangers are holding onto these players far to long. f***ing trade these guys. Geez.
And if we had Keith Kinkaid as our backup it would probably be worse.
Is your name Glenn or James?
Not trading Chytil, Kravtsov or Lundkvist at their lowest values.
Nah, this take is as bad as Georgiev’s thinking that he’s a starter. He’s in the 50’s and 60’s in the important goalie stats. He’s barely an NHL backup this year. He might need a fresh start to turn things around but I don’t think Kinkaid would be any worse and probably be a little more, er, “sunshiny” around the team.
Keith Kinkaid has not broken a .900 save percentage in the NHL in 4 years. The team would not be better with him as the backup and if Igor got hurt (which he already did) and he had to take over it would be a disaster.
