Wonder if this means they're looking to trade Shesterkin for some help at C or RW and then slot Guzda in net for the rest of the season.
Probably just buying Shesty out before his ego gets too big.

He is a RWCan Garland play RW?
How can we know that without knowing who the acquisition(s) is(are) and seeing how it works out with the lineup? It's not like if they trade for some players the team is going to be exactly the same after adding them to the lineup. This team is going out in round 1 as they currently play. This is not a team you spend a 1st on for a rental. On top of the fact that the Rangers haven't traded a first for a pure rental maybe ever.
Yup, same reason we didn't go out and acquire Panarin or Fox or Trouba or Zibanejad.Garland is good at hockey, which means the Rangers won't get him.
Find a suitor for Nemeth and perhaps include Chytil in the deal and that clears almost enough right there.Unfortunately I'm not sure we could even afford Garland. Making almost 5M per would necessitate moving out someone with a decently sized salary.
I think that would cost Lafreniere+, not KakkoWho would trade Kakko in a larger package deal for Miller @ 50% and Garland? That combined with a deal for a top 4 D rental (Giordano?) gets the Rangers in a spot where they are Cup contenders starting now.
That's not gonna be the salary needed going out to fit him in next season. Right now assuming Nemeth is traded and Strome or another center is signed at 5.75M we will have around 500k in cap room.Find a suitor for Nemeth and perhaps include Chytil in the deal and that clears almost enough right there.
It's 4.8M of his 4.95M going forwardThat's not gonna be the salary needed going out to fit him in next season. Right now assuming Nemeth is traded and Strome or another center is signed at 5.75M we will have around 500k in cap room.
That's not relevant. A roster ofIt's 4.8M of his 4.95M going forward
...it is relevant(quite obviously, ways to reduce cap to fit someone in is obviously relevant) - and I wasn't intending to pick the entire salary cap apart for next season, just mentioned that there are some strings you can pull and there were 2 easy options off the top of my head. You also still have Chytil in there in your roster and you are working on many, many assumptions in the model you outline above. That's not relevant. A roster of
Lafreniere-Zibanejad-Kreider
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Chytil-Goodrow-Blais
Hunt-Barron-Reaves
Gauthier
Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Jones-Schneider
Tinordi/7thD
Shesterkin
Backup
Strome at 5.75M
Kakko at 2.5M
backup at 800k
Gauthier 925K
Nemeth traded with no money coming back
leaves 500K in cap room. How are you finding the money to be able to fit him in?
Because I've seen how this team has played and has been coached and nobody they bring in is changing that. How can we know that without knowing who the acquisition(s) is(are) and seeing how it works out with the lineup? The point was moving Chytil and Nemeth is not going to be enough to fit Garland's salary. I think my assumptions are fairly reasonable. Even if you trade Chytil, you'd still need to clear another 2M just to fit Garland in and there would be no cap space....it is relevant(quite obviously, ways to reduce cap to fit someone in is obviously relevant) - and I wasn't intending to pick the entire salary cap apart for next season, just mentioned that there are some strings you can pull and there were 2 easy options off the top of my head. Bro not for nothing but that would legit be the dumbest zookeeper of all timeA zookeeper is hired by a zoo and asked to train 23 lions. He arrives on the scene and sees that some of them are lions, but the rest of the 23 are actually blue footed boobies. He begins to train these animals and the lions do begin to roar, capable of putting on a show. The blue footed boobies, try as they may, just can't help but squawk. Naysayers begin murmuring in the crowd: "This is a terrible zookeeper. Surely, we just need a new zookeeper".
Garland would be an A+ add.
But like others have said, WE NEVER add players like that.
