I don't understand how people dismiss this so routinely.

He has not been great with extensions so far.

Lindgren was a great extension, any team in the NHL would take the player and the hit without issue.
Reaves provides a lot on and off the ice for one extra year. Its a drop in the bucket in the greater scheme of things.

The big 3:
Mika was a slight overpayment but who are you going to replace him with on the open market, where you would certainly overpay?
Fox deal for 7 years for anything is great
Igor for 4 will be a steal during that term, although we all wouldve loved more years.

Again, I'm not a Drury lover or hater. Its very easy for fans to throw cold water on everything a GM does. There are players agents and market values to deal with. Igor didnt want more than 4, just like for whatever reason Fox's camp didn't want more than 7. I'm sure they would've been locked up for longer if possible.

What are the suitable replacements for the big 3 and what kind of contracts are you giving them on the open market?

Don't know about load up, but they ARE going to add.

On the one hand, I think this team really needs a preliminary postseason appearance to highlight what the deficiencies are before we go looking to jam square pegs into possibly round holes.
We also are going to lose in the playoffs for a few years to not only find out what we don't have, but what holes our now and later core has as well. Which one of our top players are going to wilt come playoff time?

Not trading Chytil right now is a bad decision? How so? And there's no more step backs. You need to come to grips with that.

I may have misinterpreted the post in question. I thought the poster I quoted was commenting on signing Strome to a debilitating contract versus letting him walk.

Well, I have some bad news for you. They're probably going to sign Strome to a deal you find debilitating.

He wouldn't be the worst addition at all. His size has always been a concern for me.

If we're looking at a smaller RW, Caufield is intriguing
I feel that's a massive difference in cost of acquisition... has Caufield's stock dropped that much?

At a micro level, he didn't do great. At a macro level, including hiring Gallant, the character and toughness of the team has changed to where we have a team that is top heavy and yet has huge balls and wins games they shouldn't win (it's not all Shesty). I'd say his "makeover" has been a success so far.
Agreed and yet not finished.

Caulfield has not been able to score or do anything in the nhl. Not interested. Yammamoto at least plays defense and is as physical as he can be.

He hasn't?

He's signed 4 players to extensions right? Lindgren, Shesterkin, Mika, Fox.

The Lindgren deal is superb, every team in the league would take him at 3x3.

Fox is underpaid by at least a million per on his new deal. And got him at 7 years when Fox could've pushed for 4 years which would've taken him to UFA.

Mika's is fair value at worst, last couple years could be rough but there wasn't really any other choice when they didn't make an Eichel move so they had to sign him and getting him at 8.5 AAV when most thought it would take at least 9m AAV is a win.

Shesterkin's extension looks like a steal of the century.

It would be a dereliction of duty if Drury doesn't add.

You have a team with all of the talent listed above and also has some clear deficiencies while also having 35m+ in deadline cap space available.

You don't sell the farm and tank your future for one run but you 100% have to make some additions and honestly for the life of me can not figure out why people are against buying.

I think it's ptsd from years of buying while not having the type of talent listed above and having a completely barren system.

Buying now with our surplus of assets and truly elite talent is a lot different than the buying under Sather - when we basically had no ammunition left to be buying so it screwed up our future and those teams had basically no elite talent after Lundqvist. This team has a norris winner, Hart candidate, elite 1c, Richard candidate on top of the elite goalie. At the end of the day the entire point in rebuilding and building up the system is to win a Stanley Cup so if you're staring at a legitimate shot you have to try and put your best foot forward. You don't sell the farm but thanks to the rebuild we have so many assets we can make serious trades where we're not losing too much overall from the future.

So I got an email that the Lundqvist ceremony starts at..6:30 tomorrow? Is that right? Or is that just MSG trying to get everyone in their seat well before it really starts at 7? Can’t remember how long the previous jersey ceremonies were.
