But maybe he can be coaxed to, playing with a player who is trying to set him up.
He's played with our 4 best players this season, and while I have no way of proving this, I'd bet everything I have that the coaching staff has been like "yo man you need to shoot more. You can't stick handle into the net".

But he was good with Panarin and Strome before.

He doesn't fit with Kreider and Zibanejad because they are both shooters. Kreider in particular is no great shakes as a set up man at all.

That wasn't happening much when he was playing with Strome earlier in the season. If you don't stand in front of the net like a mannequin Strome and Panarin will vote you off the island.

I seem to remember Kakko playing well with Strome and Panarin.

I agree that he should be back with 10-16, moving him off that line is one of the stranger decisions GG has made this season.

That being said, he still wasn't shooting enough when he was on that line. He's gotta break the european habit of thinking "I have time". You don't. And the only way you beat goalies in this league is to get the thing off your stick the moment it hits your blade.

Once (IF) he figures that out, he's golden.

Kakko has been playing ok with whoever he lines up with but he has not played well with anyone yet this season. He had a good stretch of games when we had the easiest schedule in the league that also spilled over when he got moved to the Mika line. He played very well with Mika until the schedule got tougher. During that same period Laf/Chytil/Goat looked unstoppable and played better than the top two lines but I'm not dying to put them back together either.

We see how hard it is to get impact young players on ELC's. The Rangers have had a lot of high draft picks and guys like Andersson, Lindbom, heck even Chytil and Lundkvist are taking their time to develop. I think it's important for people to understand that by dropping 1st's and 2nd's like candy, the chances of finding good young players only goes down. This team isn't done rebuilding yet. Yes they are competitive which is fantastic, but they need to keep the steady stream of picks coming, not deplete that pipeline.

Winner.

That's why I think Drury holds onto him. We can't give away another top10 pick.

If they believe he can become a good player, keep him. Figure out the nonsense. If they don't know, maybe he's worth a couple 2nds or a big part of a JTM package
Is there any possibility that anyone in front office thinks the Rangers over estimated on some of their 1st round picks? Clearly over the years the whole drafting side of hockey has missed on draft prospects. This hoping our kids can still put it together but I am concerned. Still think everyone of them should have gone back for more development.

On the one hand, I think this team really needs a preliminary postseason appearance to highlight what the deficiencies are before we go looking to jam square pegs into possibly round holes.

On the other, you can point to a couple glaring and obvious needs the team has.

1) A right wing for Panarin and Strome
2) A more reliable #5 defenseman
3) Someone to stabilize the third line

I'd just as soon keep the rentals cheap this year. If Kravtsov returns, give him a shot with Panarin and Strome. Play Laf-Goodrow-Chytil as a third line and see if it sticks.

The one thing I would do is shop around for an affordable Nemeth replacement. Holden went as a rental for Ogara and a 3rd, McQuaid for a 4th rounder, so I'm sure we can get some 3rd pairing guy as a rental for say, Reunanen and a 5th and call it a deadline.

Add Kravtsov, Reilly Smith, and a cheap depth defenseman. For sake of argument let's call it Giordano. Get healthy.

Panarin - Zibanejad - Kreider
Lafreniere - Strome - Kakko
Kravtsov - Chytil - Smith
Goodrow - Rooney - Hunt/Reaves

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Trouba
Giordano - Lundkvist/Schneider

Even with ALL that, ESPN Great Greg Wyshynski ranks the Rangers in his third tier of cup contenders (bundling them behind MIN and ahead of WASH) in his latest pay-walled article.

Notable teams this dude ranks in the tier ahead of the Rangers, who as you have noted above includes multiple all-NHL players, are Nashville, Boston and my personal favorite to make the ECF Pittsburgh.

It's a step back but you have to come to grips with the fact that it's a choice between two bad decisions and the one with better short term consequences isn't always the right decision.

Not trading Chytil right now is a bad decision? How so? And there's no more step backs. You need to come to grips with that.

I have a hard time believing Gallant would throw Kravtsov in the top 6 for the playoffs. He's as soft as baby poo. But I love your third line.
