Igor needs to be managed so the groin issues are avoided. This is the first time in his career he has played this many games in a season, if I remember correctly. I think they are rightfully cautious.

The talk on the Bruins board is that they wanted to get Lindholm and Rakell in a deal but only Lindholm was willing to talk extension with them. They wanted to extend both. They've turned their sights on Chychrun now. Their resident insider said Arizona was asking for their 1st, Lysell, a mid pick, and another prospect.

Who’s our 2C?
Strome of someone of comparable cap hit

The question was about acquiring someone and extending them for a 3rd line role; which I saw as something in the 2.5 per year range. That is what I was answering. I'm not entertaining the Lindholm/Kane/etc. stuff

Kreider is not a power forward and if you knew anything about the player you would know he is one of the best skaters in the league and is in great physical shape. Guys like him will age very well and there is no reason he can't play at a high level for several more years. The guys you mention where never th etype player that Kreider is except maybe for Pacioretty who in recent times has been slowed by injury.
Not all power forwards are fighters. Kreider is a big strong guy. He has a NMC for two more seasons. The Rangers can trade him after the expiration of the NMC to a limited NTC. The Rangers structured the contract which allows them to trade Kreider after the fourth season. Pacioretty has been slowed by injuries. Kreider has his share of health issues in his career. He had the blood clot issue. He suffered a broken foot blocking a shot against the Flyers after signing his contract. Last season, Kreider missed the last 6 games of the season with a lower back issue and back spasms. These guys are not machines. The injuries pile up over the years.

Problem is i dont see Kakko as a bust. He just needs some time, hes a 21yo kid. Let him develop. And no im not trading what i see as a core long term piece of my franchise for 2 years of Kane bc i dont see this team winning the cup this year or next without the proper 3rd line and actual center that can center the 2nd line.
Point taken. I look at it like this: Kane potentially would be the tougher piece and then they can make other smaller trades to shore up the other weaknesses . It will be somehwat tough being cap restricted but I think there are ways that they can get it done. Putting Kakko in the pkg gets things opened up so that you can get retention plus maybe get a 3rd team in for a cost controlled Center. Take back some salary Goodrow/Lindgren etc. The Rangers are kind of like on two timelines. A ton of young talent but also much is not ready to be counted on yet some stars in their prime right now. I think you need to shift to one or the other if the goal is the cup. Playing in the middle will get us a bunch of 1st /2nd round exits unless BOTH Kakko and Laffy become absolute studs in a year or 2.

I call bullshit on both counts.
Why? You think Kane wants out? Laffy seems farfetched hes year 2 vs year 3 of Kakko and showing more signs than Kakko has but he has been in the Gallant doghouse quite a bit himself (maybe he is not a Gallant kind of player)

Because I don’t think Laffy was on the table. And I don’t think Kane has any reason to stay there especially with the anticipation of being traded this year or next. Also, why would he not want a shot to win again? Most players are not going to come out after being with an organization for fifteen years and say”I want out”, except for maybe Rick Nash.

In what universe does this make sense? A declining expensive player vs a cheaper player improving. Kane doesn't make this team better than Tampa and Florida. Pure clickbait nonsense.
